CONGRATULATIONS FOR SURVIVING 2020. Have a fanwork event to celebrate. <3
Welcome to the New Year’s Extravaganza! This is a two-month-long gift-giving free-for-all! Why? Because Yuletide sure af isn’t enough … and because knowing us, we’ve probably all made new year’s resolutions to create, amirite? :V
How does it work? Glad you asked!
For Creators
On our Discord, you’ll find a new temporary channel, #extravaganza. Here, you’ll find short profiles posted by fellow members of Canalave Library. Each of these profiles contain information on different sorts of gifts each user might want. Your task is to go through these profiles, find one (or more) that you feel like you can tackle, and create fanwork to fill those prompts. You can fill as many prompts as you’d like for as many users as you’d like, and you can do it with whatever medium you feel the most comfortable tackling (so long as the recipient is cool with receiving your medium of choice). You can even tackle literally everyone’s prompts or all of the prompts a person offers if you’d like. Just don't burn yourself out!
Also, no, you don’t have to claim prompts to participate, and multiple people can absolutely work on the same prompts at the same time. In fact, we encourage it! The more content you write, the more likely people will get prompts filled, and the more interpretations there are floating out there, the more interesting this event becomes. So please feel free to create!
Please note that similar rules that apply to Yuletide gifts also apply to Extravaganza gifts. That means:
- Gifts should stick to the rules of the forum and server. So no NSFW stuff, even if someone asks for it. (To recipients: Please don’t ask for it.)
- Written gifts should be at least 100 words (yes, just 100) to count. Artwork should be a finished piece (not a sketch). Everything else should at least be finished as well.
- You may fill as many prompts as you'd like, and you're free to interpret prompts however you wish. However, please don’t deviate too far! The gift must at least resemble at least one of the prompts you’re “given” to count.
- Don’t create anything to deliberately piss recipients off. If you do … the mods will be mildly confused because this is a 100% voluntary event at least partly for community building. And also, it won’t be added to the catalog, and you’ll be asked to stop filling prompts.
- Unlike Yuletide, you absolutely may collab with other members of Canalave Library to fill prompts. Yes, only Canalave Library members may participate in this event, but you only need to be a member of the Discord server at the bare minimum to participate. (If your partner isn’t a member of Canalave Library … send them an invite.)
- Like Yuletide, meanwhile, you absolutely are encouraged to get a beta for all work that involves writing. Couldn’t hurt to get the artist’s equivalent of a beta or a beta tester for all other works too. Tl;dr, work with other people if you think it’ll help you put together an awesome gift.
- You cannot, however, commission people, even to provide bonus illustrations. Please do not pay people to add to your gift.
- You have from the moment the first prompt set goes up until February 28 to create fanwork for as many people as you’d like/you can. At that point, submissions for the Extravaganza will close, but the channel will be open for one more month for discussion.
Unlike Yuletide, however, there are a couple of slight differences:
1. You do not have to create a profile in order to fill requests. You absolutely can just swoop in and make your fellow user happy, no commitments necessary.
2. As mentioned above, you’re free to fill as many prompts as you want, from as many people as you want. To avoid losing track of prompt sets, we’ve created a document that lists everyone’s profile in one easy place. Please consult this as often as possible! You'll find it under Prompts and Profiles, in the next post and in #extravaganza’s pins.
What to Do With Your Work:
Whenever you complete a work, throw a link to it in either this thread or in the #extravaganza channel on the Discord server. (Note: #project-promotion rules apply. You may host your work on any archive site; please do not host it on a different forum and then post the forum link to our community.)
You’re also encouraged to post it to the forums in the appropriate section (fic goes in Fic, art goes in Art, everything else goes in Other Media). This is not a requirement, though it’d be cool!
All links will be collected and added to the Extravaganza Catalog in the next post/#extravaganza pins.
Also! If you’d like to keep track of which users you’ve given gifts to, there is a downloadable checklist in the next post/pins as well.
For Recipients
If you’d like to receive gifts (or just throw up a profile to encourage others to create), simply copy and paste the following profile in #extravaganza (and fill it out, of course!):
**What You’d Like:** (Fic, art, other, or open?)
**Pairings/Characters:** (Who would you like to receive a work about? Please specify if necessary, such as clarifying which character you may mean if characters share the same names. If you'd prefer something that's about a member of a Pokémon species, you may specify the species here as if it was a character. If you want your sender to create an OC of a certain occupation, such as breeder or trainer, you may specify that here as well. You may also include your own characters, but please include at least one canon character/generic Pokémon/create-your-own OC prompt as well if you do. Please limit yourself to ten pairings/characters at the very most.)
**Prompts:** (List as many prompts as you'd like. Anything can be a prompt, including pictures or songs. If offering a one-word prompt, please also offer an alternative prompt that isn't just a word. Likewise, if one of your prompts tackle one of your own fanworks, you must include at least one prompt that doesn’t necessarily have to be about your work. Please limit yourself to ten prompts at the very most.)
**Do Not Want:** (Whatever you absolutely do not want to receive. PLEASE LIST YOUR TRIGGERS. Also note things that would generally make you a sad panda during the holidays, including downer/sad endings, violence, angst, certain characters, etc.)
**Reference:** A link to any reference necessary for your prompts. If you're requesting fanwork of fanwork, then you should include a link to that work here.

(Why, yes, it’s a near copypasta of the Yuletide form. Why do you ask?)
Important Note: Like Yuletide, you are absolutely welcome to ask for fanfanwork (i.e., fanwork of your fanfic, fan comic, etc). This work does not need to be hosted on the Canalave Library fourms to be eligible. However, you must include a link to that work so that anyone picking up your prompts can find it, and you must include at least one prompt that doesn’t require knowledge of your work to fill (in case they don’t have time to catch up).
Once posted, your profile will be added to a doc (located in the next post/pins) that indexes all profiles, alphabetically. Your profile will also be marked with a reaction to indicate that you’re good to go.
And that’s basically it! Once posted, you can edit your profile whenever you’d like, but please send off a little message in #extravaganza saying you’ve updated, just to give anyone working on a gift for you the heads up.
As the Extravaganza is going on, the channel itself can be used for discussion (although obviously don’t reveal too much about your gifts-in-progress). Use it to discuss the event, your resolutions, the holiday, or even Canalave Library’s first anniversary. Just have fun! And thank you for making this first year of Canalave Library amazing.
