There have been a few questions regarding what's savoir faire regarding submissions to the Underground, so this thread should help clarify what we're looking for regarding content that you submit for the zine in one easy-to-access place. These may be updated periodically as the need arises, but for now the submission guidelines are fairly broad because we want to community to feel encouraged to be as creative as possible, and to have a place to express that creativity.
The following are the rules that are in place regarding submissions of written work:
- All Library guidelines regarding appropriate and inappropriate content apply here. If you need a refresher course, please refer to the board-wide rules (see nos. 5 and 8-13).
- Please limit yourself to one fic submission per user per issue. However, fic submissions, art submissions and review submissions are all separate entities, so feel free to submit both a fic and a review!
- There are no hard and fast limits on word counts or page length, nor is there a minimum threshold, but please use your best judgment. 10k words is fine, but 50k? Probably not.
- If you are submitting a chapter of a fic rather than a one-shot, please limit yourself to one chapter per submission. If you are submitting the first chapter and your fic has a prologue, we will handle that on a case by case basis.
- If you submit a fic and it is not published in an issue, feel free to submit it again the next time submissions open up.
- That being said, the Underground is meant as a showcase of the work presently on the forum, and we would like to keep our features current. We prefer to feature the noteworthy works of the moment, rather than something posted several months previously.
- When submitting, please format your submission as follows: [Name of Fic], [Chapter Number (if applicable)] - [Forum Username]. While this submission format makes it easier on the editor in chief to keep track of who's submission belongs to whom, it also means that to be considered for the Underground, you must be a member of the forum. The zine is designed to showcase the work of the community, so it stands to reason that someone being featured would need to be a member of that community.
As far as art is concerned, the same regulations regarding how to submit and what sort of content is appropriate are the same as those that apply to written content. In the future, we may need to add further guidelines to art submissions, but as of the time of writing, we have not actually received any art submissions, so our policy on this is largely hypothetical.
Regarding crossovers: So long as one of the franchises being crossed over is Pokemon, cross over art and fic are absolutely welcome in the Underground.
Regarding original content: The Underground is a Pokemon fanzine, and as such, we would like to keep the content Pokemon-specific. While we welcome original works on the forum, they are unfortunately not eligible for submission to the zine.
If there are any further questions concerning the zine, please feel free to reach out to me either via message on the forums or through the Discord. I'll be happy to clarify any concerns, and will edit this post as necessary.
