It's hard to believe my fic will be turning a year old shortly. So, I've gone ahead and prepared a little worldbuilding piece as a sort of birthday celebration. I've decided to let the Library see it first, before anywhere else. I'll be delivering it in small parts. Let me know what you think. Enjoy!
I. Introduction
Hello there! On behalf of the Horizon Exploration Guild, we'd like to welcome you to the Horizon Continent. Whether you're here to take in the sights, explore some of our varied terrain, or settle into one of our many communities, we're pleased to have you here. We've taken the liberty of preparing a comprehensive guide to our continent. We know that we're quite far removed from the rest of the world and want to make sure that any visitors have all the information they need to easily navigate around.
Here, you'll find information about the different settlements and Mystery Dungeons scattered throughout Horizon. We also offer a brief overview of the guild and the services we provide. This guide also includes information on Poké Ride, a specialized transportation system available exclusively on the Horizon Continent.
We hope you find this helpful. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to contact us by mail or in person. We're here to help, after all!

II. What is the Horizon Continent?
Eons ago, we were once a part of the Air Continent. However, early clashes between the Super-Ancient Pokémon resulted in disastrous weather that caused an enormous chunk of land to break off the Air Continent and drift away into the ocean. While many Pokémon worked to calm Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza down, a group of four Pokémon known as the Land Spirits gave chase to the drifting landmass. They are Tapu Koko, Tapu Fini, Tapu Bulu, and Tapu Lele. Using their powers, the Tapus were able to anchor the land down onto the ocean floor, establishing the foundations of the Horizon Continent.
In order to keep the continent from sinking into the ocean, the Tapus must control the ley lines stirring deep underground. As a quick refresher, ley lines are fragments of chaotic energy running through the planet's core. Their constant warping gives rise to Mystery Dungeons around the world. Since the Tapus reign in ley lines for Horizon, Mystery Dungeons have progressively sprung up throughout the continent. However, unlike the Mystery Dungeons you're familiar with, the ones in Horizon do not constantly change. Rather, the Tapus shift the terrain periodically. Also, Horizon's Mystery Dungeons are actual landmasses as opposed to mysterious labyrinths with numerous floors.
This means that many of the Mystery Dungeons contain actual wild Pokémon, instead of ones that are created purely from ley lines and disappear when defeated in battle. Other wild Pokémon live in smaller patches of the environment outside a dungeon. In the continent's early years, the Tapus helped forge an agreement between wild Pokémon and ones with preferences for living in communities. We generally try to stay out of each other's territories as best we can. Naturally, misunderstandings and conflicts can and do happen. But the Tapus do their best to create paths for travelers trekking through dungeons. At the same time, a Pokémon can choose to become wild and live in a dungeon or a dungeon Pokémon can opt to leave and join a community.
Now, this doesn't mean our continent is perfect. Some communities and dungeons can be quite unwelcoming. Which is why we encourage you to read on before embarking on any journeys through Horizon.
III. About the Horizon Guild
We're a part of the Exploration Team Federation alongside Wigglytuff's Guild, Pokémon Paradise, the Expedition Society, and the Pokémon Square Rescue Headquarters. We operate out of the Aeon Observatory over in, well, Aeon Town. We offer a full range of services for explorers of all grades and experience. Whether you freelance or work directly for an organization, we're here to help. Our in-house explorers are ranked by experience level in three groups: novices, apprentices, and veterans. We also have dedicated staff members servicing both the guild and the community.
Novices are, as you'd expect, complete rookies. They're just getting their bearings straight and learning the basics of exploring. We have more experienced guild members train them up so they can operate on their own and typically restrict their assignments to places reasonably close to the guild. Apprentices operate with a higher degree of independence and can join the guild in expeditions. Veterans are completely independent and can do whatever they wish. They can choose to stay in special lodgings in the guild's base or move away and set up a base in another community. It's up to them!
All visitors are welcome to register in the guild's Pokénector. It's an efficient way to enable us to help you out if there's ever any trouble. The design is based off the Pokémon Nexus, constructed by the Expedition Society's Jirachi.
IV. Guild Staff & Veteran Introductions
Stuck in a bind? Not sure what to do? Give one of these folks a call!
Team MIB
Members: Metagross, Incineroar (Leader), Braviary
The main team in the Horizon Guild, run by yours truly, has mostly retired from full-time dungeon exploration. Braviary serves as my second-in-command and Metagross is the guild's primary researcher and information-gatherer.
Team Captivate
Members: Milotic (Leader), Dragonair, Serperior
A veteran rank team that is willing to take on any assignments with no questions asked. Team Captivate has the most collective exploration experience under their belts behind Team MIB. However, this does tend to make them difficult to reach, as they get plenty of personalized requests.
Team Specter
Members: Haunter (Leader), Drifloon, Misdreavus
A veteran rank team that provides "service with a scare." These three pranksters are quite clever and resourceful, opting to avoid direct confrontation with opponents in favor of confounding them with tricks and traps. They work best after dark. If you hire them, be forewarned that they may opt to pull a prank on you, as well.
Team Buzz-Buzz
Members: Araquanid (Leader), Volcarona
This veteran team is easily capable of traversing a wide variety of terrain. They are also an excellent choice when you need work done in the Invern Mountains.
Team Harmony
Members: Primarina (Leader), Vaporeon
Team Harmony is currently the only veteran team whose base is not the Aeon Observatory. They live in Circadian Coast. While they're happy to take the occasional assignment, they have mostly stepped back from exploration to focus on Primarina's singing career. Vaporeon serves as Primarina's manager.
Magearna
Guild Title: Chief Science Officer
Magearna serves as the guild's head inventor. Her line of patented "Geartronic devices" is a huge help for guild members out on explorations. Her most noteworthy creation is the Gear-Com, which lets teams communicate with the guild even at great distances.
Comfey
Guild Title: Chief Medical Officer
Comfey is our resident first-aid specialist. Her signature technique, Floral Healing, is a welcome presence amongst the guild. She is also well-versed in the creation and administration of medicinal herbs and brews that can have even seriously-injured Pokémon back on their feet quickly.
