Hiii. :D I just got here and I'm wanting to post some of my work, but some of my fics get kind of graphic with regards to violence, so I think I should probably message a mod some of the content to look over first. How should I go about doing that?

Hey, welcome! It's great to see you here. (I'm Cutlerine, by the way, in case the different name throws you. :P) You can send a message by going to 'Messages' at the top of the board and then 'Create message', or contact any of us on our Discord, where we do most of our outside-of-fic discussions. Alternatively, since I'm right here and I've read a bunch of your work already, you could just let me know what you're posting and I can make the call! :V As a general rule, though, based on what I remember of your work, I think you'd be fine as long as you take care to provide content warnings and whatnot.

Hi! :D Ultimately I'd like to post all of it here, but I was thinking of starting with TOoS since it's the oldest. It's also probably the most graphic, though. I was planning on adding the usual content warnings I do at the beginning (and maybe also reiterating the relevant warnings at the start of the especially violent chapters), but I thought it might also be a good idea to maybe PM the goriest scenes beforehand just to make sure they don't violate rule 9. I clicked the Messages tab at the top, but unfortunately I'm having trouble finding the "Create message" option. Here's what I found when I clicked there:

Interesting. The button simply isn't there for you, it seems! I suspect there's a minimum post count before you can send PMs, but my admin rights aren't sufficient to let me view that setting and make sure for you -- I'll have to ask Minty, as she set the system up. As for TOoS ... it's been a while since I've read that one, haha. My instinct would be that if it was okay for the other place, it's probably all right here if you warn properly (honestly, the work here tends to skew towards the dark anyway), but if you're concerned about it I or another mod can definitely look over the worst parts. As a general rule though, if the violence isn't excessive, which would breach the ProBoards TOS and is why we have rule #9, then I think you're good.
Anyway, as an interim solution till I hear back from Minty, you could DM me or another mod on Discord; if there is a minimum post count, then that might end up being what we have to do anyway.

All righty then, I'll DM you the scenes. I'm not sure what the exact definition of excessive violence would be, so I think I should definitely have some mods see if what I've done fits that definition.

Hey there! Sorry about the confusion and all (and welcome to the Library)! To answer your questions in order, there actually is a post minimum to PMs as a spam deterrent (that ... I forgot about, oops). Currently, the minimum post count to unlock PMs is five. Also! Regarding your question directly, having read the fic in question, I can say you're fine so long as you warn for violence and gore. Excessive violence is a pretty tricky thing, but in my opinion, it's much more relevant to a visual medium. That's a lot harder to argue with the TOS about because, well, excessive gore and violence is absolutely an obvious thing if you're working with something you can see. On the other hand, the rule, when applied to written works, is more about context. (I say this because written leaves a lot more up to interpretation. While it's still possible to get triggered by violent written media—hence why you should warn for it either way—the fact that you can't see it means how extreme it actually is for you is dependent on how vivid your imagination is.) So when it comes to fics, what I'd like folks to avoid is glorifying violence. Don't do things like write literal torture porn (not that you could anyway because of the no NSFW rule), depict genocide as a good thing (especially if it involves actual, real-world races), romanticize shootings/violent crimes/suicide/self-harm, that kind of thing. But if you describe blood and gore and a bit of intestine here and there for reasons that don't involve glorifying violence, that's still pretty okay because I'm pretty sure the Proboards staff isn't looking that deeply into things. Hopefully, anyway!

Hi! :D Makes sense and sounds good!
Thanks to you both for the help and clarification. Off I go to the fic board, then! :D
