The Canalave Library Review Exchange

Looking for feedback? You've come to the right place! Here's where you can sign up to exchange reviews with a partner, for mutual benefit. If this sounds like your thing, read on!

How it works

It's simple: fill out this form, and you'll be placed in a pool of candidates to be paired up by the mods, according to what kind of stories you've indicated you're willing to read. Once we've found you a partner, we'll contact both of you on Discord, and you can agree the terms of the exchange yourself – which chapters of each other's works you'll review, for instance. If we can't find you a compatible sign-up, we'll ask if you would consider reviewing outside your chosen genres. If we can't find anyone at all within two weeks, either eldestoyster or manchee will write you a review instead.

Rules

1. Your fic must be posted here on Canalave Library for it to be eligible for entry into the exchange: we can't ask members of the community to go off-site to review.
   
2. Once you've agreed the terms of your review exchange, you need to follow through within a reasonable time frame. Fail to deliver a review, and you'll receive a warning. Fail to deliver two consecutive reviews, or three overall, and you'll be barred from the exchange for three months.
3. Reviews need to be of a certain quality – you can't get away with writing a three-sentence review in exchange for a three-paragraph one. You'll need to write at least two or three sentences, positive or negative, about at least four topics. You could write about the characters, the dialogue, any spelling or grammar mistakes, whether and how much you like the story, the writing style, or anything else – just as long as you provide at least a couple of details about it.
4. All the usual rules apply to reviews made through this system. Treat each other with respect, and if offering constructive criticism, offer it with the aim of encouraging and helping the author to grow, not tearing them down.
   
5. All review exchanges made through this system will be underwritten by eldestoyster and manchee. If your partner fails to deliver, one of us will write you a review instead.
