Well, now that I've confirmed that a run can work here, let's start in on the second one! For this run, keep an eye on the contents of this post.
1. Catch only the first wild pokemon from a route. If it dies or runs, tough titties. -- 1a. Dupe clause set to 'no'. May not catch pokemon if it is a dupe. If it is, retry until a new pokemon is found. ---- 1ai. A 'dupe' is any pokemon that I have owned that still lives. -- 1b. This rule does not apply until I get my first pokeballs. -- 1c. I may catch any shinies I find, but if they're not the first 'mon on a route, I can't use them. 2. Nickname everybody. Pokemon are people too! 3. Whenever a pokemon faints, it is THE DEAD. Send it to heaven! 4. Gifts, trades, etc. all count as the pokemon for their respective area. 5. PERSISTENT STARTER - You may not remove your starter from your active team. 6. STARTER DEATH - If your starter faints, the run is over. 7. DEICIDE - For the run to be complete, all available legendary pokemon must be found and defeated.
Stand aside, all of you. I don't know what will happen if you get in the way of this process! You can't blame us for wanting to see. Speak for yourself. I'm not even convinced he knows what he's doing. Are you sure this is going to work?
It has to work! We've already used all other available resources. I know the odds are against us, but we have no choice! He has a point. I don't think we're going to get another shot at this. I swear, if I ever get free of this...this gulag, I'm going to go Amish! Shhh, be quiet! If anyone hears you, we're all doomed! We may already be doomed!
Calm down, all of you! I don't think we're doomed. I think we still get this one final shot...it seems to be one of the few rules that thing still follows. What if he can't do it? What if he winds up like the others? Then we do what we should have done to begin with. I told you, your plan is impossible. We're bound by the same rules that monster is. Knowing that this is an illusion doesn't render us free from its hold. We have our parts to play, and we have to hope that he can play his. If he can't... You know this is wrong. In fact, you may even be hastening the end. I know that! Don't you think I've played this over and over again in my mind? We simply have no choice. We can't take much more of this. None of us can. Without a champion, we won't have to worry about this - or anything else - for much longer.
Are you ready? No, but we have precious little choice. At the first opportunity, begin...and may Arceus have mercy on our souls for what we are about to do.

Zzzzznnnnf...huh...wha?
Heh heh...I've been playing too much. Need to put the games down an' go out more.
Mmmm-hmmm. And your name is Oak and you have a douchebag for a grandkid. Man, how many times have I heard this schpiel before?
Seriously, your screen name offers no hint.Wha...? That's not part of the script. Bleah. Oh well, it is a dream. I'm a guy.
Huh. That's kinda weird. I don't use that name on most sites. Be that as it may, that is the name by which we found you. You are Manic, yes?Yeah, that's me. You're kinda weird, Dream Oak. Ahem. Right, well, now it's time to remind me of my grandson's name.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure of it. Or 'Blue' if you want. Wow, this is really lucid. You're sure of that name?Yep. I don't want to be staring at Butts through this entire dream.
WHOAH. Okay, this is a pretty sweet dream. Look at this place! There's the shitty computer, there's the...huh, the television and bed are painted onto the floor. So I guess that makes me Red, or whatever. Sure, I can play along.
Gotta get that potion. Okay, seriously, when I wake up, I'm taking a break from anything Pokemon related for, like...a month.
So much for going back to sleep.
Yeah, sure. Then I go and he's not there, so I try to leave town and he flips his shit, drags me back, gives me a starter pokemon. I know the routine. Then go. Please, hurry.O...kay, that's a sense of urgency I wasn't quite expecting, AND totally off-script.
Yadda yadda. It looks nicer in 3-D, but it's still Pallet Town. Let's get this show on the road.
Yeah, I know. Tall grass, pokemon, come with you. Then hurry, there's no time to lose!Okay, everybody seems really freaked out about something, and somebody seems to have wiped their ass with the script. Is there something I should know?
Hurry inside. All of our lives are in danger so long as you're in the open with no Pokemon! Will you explain when we get inside? I swear I will, but hurry!Okay, okay! Quit shoving. Jeez.
Ah, you finally have the last challenger. Hello...Manic, is it? I must admit, I'm used to being called 'Dicks' or 'Balls' or something juvenile in these games. It'll be a pleasure to murder a worthy opponent.Okay, wait. What the actual fuck is happening here? Oh, grandfather. You didn't even get his consent, did you? You poor boy. I'll try to make your end swift.
Ah, yes. You're the horrorshow freak of nature my poor daughter birthed, now I recall. Well, we DO have a final challenger, and he's going to put an end to all of this.So you say. This should be amusing. Explain to him why he's here, I'm just dying to see his reaction.Okay, yes. I can't believe I'm agreeing here, but yes. You guys are way WAY off script here, and I don't get a single damn bit of this. Exposition me, you magnificent bastards!
You're right. I do owe you an explanation. Manic, you've been called to this 'game' that we know as reality because you are our last chance at freedom. I don't know precisely what he did, Manic...but Gary has struck a deal with some unholy force. Players have been losing and getting pulled into the game. The tall grass is full of pokemon that used to be players. Most of them lose their minds in the process.I deserve to be the champion, and I will be, by whatever means necessary.Okay, I'm pretty sure this is one of the best dreams ever, but I'm going to wake up now OW CHRIST that hurt! Ugh. It's not a dream, simpleton. This is all too real, as you're soon to find out.I sent a Porygon to scout your world's internet and find someone with a good chance of winning. What you did in Hoenn was extraordinary. We need your skills here!Whoah, whoah, hold on. That was a GAME. You know, pixels on a screen? I sure as hell didn't have some...one... ...shit. I believe your champion just figured out the stakes, grandfather.Yes, Manic. We need you to do a Nuzlocke of Kanto. Not just for our world, but for yours as well. All right, all right, let's focus here...deep breaths. What happens if I win? WHEN you win, we send you home. Not that I can until you do; Mew exhausted the last of its energy bringing you here. And if I lose? If you lose, there won't be a home to return you to.Oh, but don't worry. You won't mind in the least.I knew I should've taken up stamp collecting.
Well, it doesn't sound like I have much of a choice. Nor do we. Some things are so ingrained into the game that we lack the power to ignore them. For example...you have to choose your pokemon first.
Yes, and then it's my turn.Oh, shut up. And why the hell do you sound like Tim Curry and Liberace had a baby? I'm afraid I don't follow you.Bah, skip it. So, this is Kanto, that means...
God, no, please!I'm begging you, not again!I've been killed seventeen times in the last month!Buh? Um. Say what now? These poor souls got transformed into our starters. They've been at this the longest. Aaron the Charmander, Benson the Squirtle, and Chance the Bulbasaur. Because they're integral to the game, they don't die permanently, they just respawn. Over and over and over...Seriously, do you know what it's like to have wings and LOSE them? Over and over again?I understand that you need to beat Gary, but there must be another way.I think I'm going to be sick...!
All right. I need to choose one of you in order to save our worlds, but I think it's safe to say that none of you actually want to come with me. Right? I'd rather eat a Muk! It's a death sentence. Please, please, please...Well then, Manic. How will you choose your victim?I'm going to ask all three of you the same question. How you answer will determine which one of you comes with me. Here it is:

Cue the speculation. What question would determine which starter Manic would take?
Why do the starters desperately want not to go on a journey?
And what is Gary's issue?
These questions and more will be answered in coming updates!

All right. Chance, right? Who do you think I should choose? I don't care, as long as it isn't me!Interesting response. Benson, your turn. Who do you think I should choose? You should clearly choose Aaron.Hey!Charizard has a slight edge in statistics, and you won't need another pokemon who can use Fly.Hmmm, not bad. Aaron, how about you? Oh, you should totally choose Benson.Revenge, huh?Not at all! Blastoise is a defensive wall and can handle good HMs like Surf. There's another reason, but I don't feel like sharing.Okay, I get it. Well, have you made your decision?
Yes. AUGH! Why?!Simple. I could realistically bring any of you through to a victory, so that's not the issue. Your suitability isn't determined by your species, it's determined by your intelligence. Chance was too paralyzed by fear to think of anything but 'not me'. And you're more clever than Benson. Hmph. What makes you say that?Simple. If you really wanted to stay out of this, you should have told me to select Chance. If I'd done so, Gary would have to choose Aaron, and you'd be safe here. Instead, you told me to select Aaron here. What of it?So, who does Gary choose if I choose Charmander?
Dammit!Right. Aaron, on the other hand, raised some valid points and gave a suggestion that would've taken him out of the equation. I need someone who can think on his feet, and that's the reason for my choice. Delightful. You're not a complete ignoramus after all. This should be amusing.Oh, fantastic. Me and my big mouth.Well, let's have a good look at you.
Hmmm, not bad. The nature is a bit rough... Up yours too....but I can work with it. C'mon, let's make the best of it. Fine, I guess. It's nothing I haven't done before.
By which I mean, if your Charmander would do me the courtesy of laying down and dying, this can all be over quickly.Heh heh. There's one more reason I chose him. And I suppose you're going to bore me by telling me that reason.Nope! I'm going to show you.
Are you kidding me? Ugh...sorry, script. I can't shake it all the time. It's fine. Now for my little demonstration.
Whoah. What just happened?!See, Charmander is my favorite Kanto starter. I've got all kinds of experience with them, and I know their strong and weak points. Owwww...okay, now it's personal.Fine with me. Come with me, turtle. We have training to do.
What, really? Stupid script.Let him go, Manic. I have more to tell you.
Listen closely. Plot characters - myself, Bill, Giovanni - will retain some semblance of free will, but anyone who isn't central to the plot will be stuck to the script.Well, there goes any chance of useful conversation. Not necessarily. There is good news: I've discovered that being captured by a pokeball will return a defeated player's mind, if not their body. The pokemon you catch will be players, remember. Use their insights to help you along.I will. Any chance I could get those pokeballs from you early? Afraid not, but it's a quick jump over to Viridian City. You know the drill, right?Sure, and I guess we could train a little on the way. Not too much!Don't worry, you won't die. If I have my way, none of my teammates will. Good luck, both of you. The fate of two worlds is in your hands.
Well, here we are. Funny, the tall grass doesn't look that different in person. Yeah, but the ledges are taller. Now you see why you can't hop up, right?Well, yeah. I'd wreck myself trying. Shame about this route. No pokeballs.Oh, don't worry. One of my standard Nuzlocke rules applies to this: 1b. This rule does not apply until I get my first pokeballs.Meaning we can train with impunity on this route?Bingo. Not too much, though; I don't want you knocking out our catches. Hmm, maybe you're not so bad.
Let's just get that, thank you kindly...
Finally. I feel naked without my fire. You are naked. Oh, shut up.
Mmmmyep. Package me, let's get this over with.
Get on with it. Were it not for the script, I wouldn't even be here. Were it not for the script, I would give you nothing. Here's a pokedex for both of you, and here:
And that applies to both of you. Manic, the clock is ticking. Gary...I just don't want you here.Right. I'm on it. Just let me make a quick stop-off:
Something tells me he doesn't have as much control of his sister as he thinks. You're enjoying this, aren't you?Meh, maybe a little. I mean, the whole live-action Pokemon thing is kind of cool. Plus, I haven't gotten hungry or tired since I got here. Now, c'mon, let's go get our first catch! You know it'll probably be a Rattata, right?Probably, but Raticates can be good too.
Oh, hey, nice! A Pidgey! Score!Okay. Just one Scratch, there we go. Now...I've always wanted to say this...go, Pokeball! *click*Muh...what happened...I caught you. I'm told your head should be clearing right about now. What's your name?
Name's Trevor. Hey, why're you so big...wha...what the hell?!Take it easy. You tried to fight through the game, right? And you lost? Right, right. Some Rattata offed my Charmander with a Quick Attack, and my run ended right there.Yeah, tell me about it. I was that Charmander! If you'd gone and gotten that Potion, I would've lived!None of that explains why I'm a Pidgey, though!Everyone who's lost has gotten turned into a wild Pokemon. When I caught you, it broke the...whatever-it-is. Not that you deserve it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. What kind of trainer loses on Route 101?Take it easy, Aaron. Trevor, it turns out I'm the final one to take the challenge. Want some payback? Well...I guess I don't have a choice, right?Sure you do. I have to bring Aaron with me, but I'm not having anyone else tag along who isn't willing to take the risk. ...I'll come with you for now, until I decide for good.Good enough. Welcome aboard!
Let's go find a third ally. Maybe we'll get lucky and find a Mankey!
Or maybe I'll find you.Oh, lord. Don't you have training to do? Why are you even doing all of this? I'm sick of this game! Over and over again, I train my pokemon. Over and over again, I become the champion. And over and over again, the player steals it from me! I'm sick of my grandfather gloating over me! If there are no more players, I can stay champion permanently!...right. So, you're crazy then. *snrrk* Hah! Nice.Maybe...but being crazy doesn't mean I'm going to lose. Prepare yourself! I know that your Pidgey is badly underleveled, and your Charmander is only an equal to one of my two pokemon.Challenge accepted.
But...wha...how?!Simple. I knew Trevor would learn Sand-Attack in this fight. Aaron takes down your Pidgey, swap Trevor in for a quick Sand-Attack, Aaron comes back with a Growl, and you're in a race you can't win. Rrrrgh...all right, you're better than you look. Just wait till next time!Looking forward to it, douche. Now, let's go get our catch for this route. Uh...
...after a quick heal. Much better.
All right, Trevor. You're up. Don't waste time with Sand-Attack, just tackle him a few times. Easy now... You've been at this for a while, huh?Oak may be a prick for dragging me into this, but that doesn't mean he was wrong. *click*Whew! Whoever you are, thanks.Hmmm, you don't seem that surprised by your looks. The further along they were, the more aware they stay, even if they can't control themselves. This guy was on the route leading to the Elite Four....so he was probably pretty close. Gotcha.
I'm Carver. That's all you need to know.Really? I'd think your name would be Curt. It's fine. Being trapped inside a body beyond your control is likely to make anyone a little... Touchy?I was going to say 'irate', but yeah, that works.
Okay, guys. We have a bit of a situation. I don't know if I need two flying types on my team, especially since Aaron will evolve into one. One of you will probably wind up in the box. Not it. Not it.Well, let me take a closer look.
I have better stats. You also died on Route 101.Three forms means my final evolution will be stronger! My evolution will have better attacks.FeatherDance, Wing Attack!Drill Peck, Pursuit!Guys, guys! Let me try something. Okay. I'm hoping that...I mean, this IS a Nuzlocke...so maybe this is being documented somehow. I don't know if it's typing itself out or what, but if anyone can hear me...who do you think I should keep? Who are you talking to?Maybe nobody. I don't know. It's a long story.

And we're underway! ...already with the type duplication.
And with the villainous exposition. Now we know WHY Gary is doing this, even if we don't know HOW.
Also. Remember this update. Something very, very important happened here, that will become critical information later on in the series.

So, a new run! The tone on this one seems considerably darker than the Emerald one, and the idea that the pokemon Manic encounters on the routes are previous players who got game over'd is a neat concept, and it will be interesting to see how that affects the team dynamics. This doesn't seem like it's shaping up to be another romp with a quirky cast like the Emerald one was...
The Manic here talks like the Manic from the Emerald version, but I don't think they're necessarily the same. The Manic in Hoenn was a "native", his character grew up in the pokemon world and had a family there, but this Manic is an avatar of you, the writer who pulled the old Manic's strings, who's been dragged from the real world and into this scenario. It's not made much of in the text, so I can't tell if this is just some window dressing to keep the Manic character in play after his happy ending in Hoenn and I'm overthinking things, or if it's an important bit of metatextuality that will become relevant later.
The whole idea of NPCs being forced into a script by the constant resets of the world is also a good dose of cosmic horror. I get the sense that this run is leaning heavily on the "real person sucked into a video game, if you die you die it's a fate worse than death" stable of tropes, so even if a lot of the stakes and early interactions feel familiar and/or a bit cliché, the tropes are still utilized well, so it's not like I'm rolling my eyes at the schtick. Gary's motivations seem pretty par for the course and I to a certain extent I could see a guy in his situation snapping and making a deal with the devil to finally get what he wants. I think the one thing that stood out to me in the most recent update is that Oak mentioned that some of the smarter NPCs like himself and Bill would be able to "break script" to give Manic advice, but he also mentioned that Giovanni would be able to do so as well. I think that leaves you a lot of really interesting narrative capabilities as far as he's concerned, since you already have a big bad in Gary, so I'm really interested in seeing where that goes. I could see him being tired of being stuck in the same script of his evil plot, the gym battle, and his reformation only to get thrown back to square one over and over, and becoming an unlikely ally to Manic, despite being forced to battle him. Well, I suppose I'll see.
I'm trying to figure out what the big important thing that happened was, and I think it may be the bit at the end where Manic talks to the audience he presumes is watching? I doubt it has to do with his quiz for the starters since that seems to have wrapped itself up, and the no catching pokemon until he has pokeballs is a pretty standard Nuzlocke rule. Gary's motivation speech is, like I said, pretty standard for a big bad in this sort of setting, so it's either his mons having more memories when he catches them further in the game, which as I've said is a cool narrative choice but otherwise I don't think it's too earthshattering of a revelation, or it's that the Nuzlocke is transcribed and viewed so Manic has an audience. This fourth wall lean also tips its hand towards the thing I raised earlier about this Manic being different from the other Manic in Emerald and also being fourth wall aware in a way that was only played for quick comedy bits a few times in the Emerald run. You've mentioned this run is pretty old, and the playthrough is definitely long done, so I don't think this poll the audience bit is going to really play into the story on the Canalave side, though it might have where it was originally posted.
On an unrelated note, now that I'm looking at these screenshots I'm remembering how blocky FRLG looked, especially in comparison to RSE's rounder edges. And the differences in color palates too.

I've been meaning to re-read the Manic series for a long time, so this is a nice excuse. It's a shame what happened with the old site, but this one seems nice. Good luck with the long journey of uploading, what, 12 runs?

I dunno. I get this vague feeling like I should keep both of you around for now. Makes sense to me.Sure, I'm willing to help for now, I guess. What's up next? You don't know?Um. Trevor, how far have you gotten in this game before? Route...101?That explains a lot.Take it easy, guys. Trev, hang back and watch how this is all done. It's not all that hard, just pay attention. For now, let's hit Route 2 and find a new partner.
Oh lord, this guy. Hah! You know, I've never seen anyone happy to see him.Shhh! I'm learning here.Okay, I really should've seen that one coming.
*HRK* Help me cram it into the bag! Trevor, hold the bag. Carver, you and I push. On three. Aaaaaand...THREE!Whew! Man, I wish I had one of these in real life. Bag of Holding for the win! But isn't it heavy?Nope! Doesn't weigh a thing so long as it's in the bag. Now I want one.
Well, here we are, Pismo Beach and all the clams we can eat. You're old, aren't you?Oh, cram a Sawk in it. Let's go find our new ally. Are you actually ready for the forest?Let me put it this way...
...yes. Works for me! Let's move on!
Oh hey, a Weedle! A Beedrill would be a useful addition. Take it easy, Trev. One good tackle, and... *click* Bam! Paydirt. Who...who're you?I'm Manic. This is Aaron, Trevor, and Carver. I'm s-scared...Uh oh.Why can't I move my arms...where's mommy?That's...not what I was hoping to hear.Okay. It's going to be all right. Can you tell me your name?
*snf* I'm L-lacey...have you seen my mommy?Lacey, sweetie...how old are you? I'm s-six...Shit... There'll be hell to pay, Gary...Okay. Lacey, I haven't seen your mommy, but would you like me to help you look for her? Uh huh...Here you go. You can ride on my shoulder, where it's safe. Th-thanks, mister Manic...Now, Lacey, can you help us fight? I promise, you won't ever be in any danger. He's right. I'll protect you!I'll help too. We'll all keep you safe, Lacey!W-well...I can try!
(And then some grinding happened...)
What's happening? I'm scared! It's all right, Lacey! You're going to be safe, just relax, take deep breaths. I'm all glowy...it's pretty!
I feel funny...it's hard to move! It's your mid-evolution. The next one is where the power is.It's okay, Lacey! I'll help you get around.W-well...okay...Don't worry, this is all perfectly normal. It'll only happen one more time, and when it does, you'll really appreciate it! 'Kay!
(Not long afterward...)
EEEE! It's happening again!Bugs do evolve quickly. (Makes up for their low power.)(Dude, don't be a dick!) You're doing fine, Lacey! Just hang in there!Oh, you're going to like this one!
I'm pretty now!If you like bugs.Wow, you're kind of a dick, Carver.C'mon, guys. Don't spoil her moment. Check her out, she's strong and fast and... EEEE! I can fly! Wheeeee! You sure can! Look at you go!
Neat! You're really strong now, Lacey! I hope I learn good moves soon.Awww, you will! It's okay, you're nice!Aheh...well, thanks for saying so!Uh, I hate to break up the friendship parade, but we should really get moving.Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm glad you found a friend, Lacey. Come on, let's go into the forest. Everybody stay close now.
Just keep going counter-clockwise along the perimeter and we'll get out of here fine. It's true. I can't tell you how many times I've done this. How come?I think he means he's done it a LOT of times, Lacey. But for now, let's try to find our new ally for this place.
Not bad. Butterfree has a nice movepool, even if its typing is poor.So noted. Lacey, could you use Poison Sting? Just once now, we don't want to kill it, we just want to capture it. Uh huh! Take that, icky bug!Okay, okay. And now... *click* Bingo! Huh...what happened...?Hi there. I'm Manic, and this is Aaron, Trevor, Carver, and Lacey. Mind sharing your name?
I'm Susan...wait, did you say Lacey?Well, yeah. My daughter is named Lacey! She's been missing for days!M...mommy...?Lacey, sweetheart, is that you? You're...big!Uh huh! An' you're little! Mr. Manic has helped me get strong!I...I don't know...Lacey went missing a few days ago, and I was cleaning, and I picked up her Pokeyman game...Tsk...it's Pokemon, mommy!Don't interrupt, sweetie. Anyway, next thing I knew, I woke up, and here you were!I understand. One of the characters in this game has turned sentient, and is kidnapping players. Susan, will you fight alongside us? I'll need your help, not just to protect your daughter, but to protect everyone else, too. Well, I'll certainly do what I can, but like this...Don't worry, you won't stay like that for long.
OH! What is this? It's okay, mommy! That's how I got big too!Pokemon evolve, and this is your first evolution. It'll make you stronger and better able to survive. Fortunately for you, your middle form won't last too long.Er, I think he means that you'll evolve again quickly!
*giggle* You look silly, mommy! Now Lacey, it's not polite to laugh at people. It's okay, Susan. Like Carver was trying to say, your second evolution will come quickly enough. That's what I did say.Anyway, let's keep working on this. The more we train, the better our chances.
Phew! We're finally through. Good riddance.Huh. You'd been so quiet, I almost forgot you were here. Not a big surprise.Hey, c'mon, man. What's wrong?Nothing, I'm fine. Let's just keep going.Well...if you say so.
And here comes the part I was dreading. Why is that?Brock's gym. He uses Rock types. And?And the entire team is Fire, Flying, and Bug types. Guess what's weak to rock? Among other things, Fire, Flying, and Bug types. Rock is a terrible defensive type, but it's great on offense.Mommy...It's all right, sweetie. Mr. Manic has a plan for getting us through this. You DO have a plan, don't you?Actually, I do, but it's going to take a lot more training. I'm curious to see what you do here. Let's heal and get to work.
INTERLUDE 1Hello, trainer. Would you like to share your profile with me?Oh, it's one of these. Great. C'mon, it's like a tradition.Don't...goes to...Gary...Come again? Hello, trainer. Would you like to share your profile with me?I see. Sure, I'll share with you. Now you make sure that gets to Gary.
INTERLUDE 2
Mommy...why are we leaving everyone else over there?Lacey, sweetie, listen to mommy. I think you can trust Manic and that Trevor fellow, but I'm not sure about Aaron, and I want you to stay away from Carver. I don't think I trust him with you.But...they said they'd protect me!I know, honey, but I think Aaron is upset about something, and Carver doesn't seem to care very much about anyone.Okay, mommy. I love you!Mommy loves you very much. Now, let's go back to the others.
INTERLUDE 3
All right, what did you w-OW! What the hell!Listen up, you Big Bird wannabe.Well, this is a side of Happy Fun Trevor we haven't seen before. No wonder you wanted to do this in private. That's because nobody else deserves to have to see it. I don't know what your problem is, but you need to stop being an asshole to the rest of the team. You hate me? That's cool, I don't care. Everyone else is trying their hardest, though, so stop looking at us like statistics! You done? For now.Good. Now you listen to me. Pokemon is a game of statistics. Attack strength, speed, defensive power, effectiveness. We're pokemon for the moment, so we are statistics. If we lose, we all lose. When the chips are down, Manic is going to choose me, because you know nothing about this game. Friendliness is all well and good, but we have to win.And we will, if you stop...hey! Come back here! This discussion is over. You be the cuddlepigeon, I'll get us through this alive.
Okay, I admit, I can't remember. Is there any reason for us to go into the museum right now? I don't think there is. Nope. Not until later......when we can revive a fossil, right. It's been a while. Don't worry about it. You've got me as backup.Well, maybe back up is exactly what you should do.What's that about? Don't worry, Manic. We're just joking with each other.Uh huh. Well, let's go do some training and work off some of this energy.
(Eventually...)
Here we go again!Yay! Go mommy, go!Excellent. She'll become a valuable team member.
More importantly, she'll be able to hug her daughter again.*gasp* Mommy, you're so pretty! And you can fly now too!!Oh, my. I feel the beginnings of a headache coming on...Susan, you okay?
Yes, I think so. In fact, I think I just figured out a new attack!Mommy's strong now too!Yeah...good for you guys. All right. You, come with me. Huh?Trevor, you're in charge. I just need a minute with Aaron here. Trevor? Seriously? It's just for a minute. No combat will happen.
All right, c'mon, man. What's eating you? It's nothing. It's stupid, and it'll take care of itself.Out with it. Something's got you down. *sigh* Fine. Look at our team. What does everyone have in common?Um...former humans? And?You got me, man. FLIGHT, dumbass. Everyone can fly but me. Once you've flown, I mean really flown under your own power, being grounded is like...torture.I'm not sure Trevor can fly. Nah, he can, he's just kind of a goober. Nice kid, though. He'll figure it out.I don't know what to tell you. I don't think there's anything I can do about it. Yeah...I know. Sorry I'm being a wet blanket. I'll shake it off. It's cool. I promise, we'll get you your wings back. Heh, thanks. I guess I'm just impatient.
Okay, folks. Let's get back to training. Everything okay?Yeah, Aaron just needed to get something off his chest. If you need to talk, I'm willing to listen.Nah, it's okay. I was just being a tool. C'mon, let's get back to work.HUGS!ACK! Heh...okay, okay! C'mon, I've got a move to learn.
Excellent. That's one of the two ways we're going to beat Brock. And before you ask, Rock is weak to Steel. Oh, I get it.What's the other way, mister...Please, just call me Manic. And actually, you're going to learn a move that'll cinch it for us. Manic, you know Butterfree has a quad weakness to Rock, right? Even a glancing hit......will never occur, because she'll never be in the same fight as an active pokemon with a Rock attack. Trust me. It'll be okay! Manic says so!Thanks, Lacey. But first, I have a promise to keep.
Ahhh, it's my turn!Oh, my. Is that what it looks like? Lacey, honey, stand clear. It's all right, it's harmless. I'd like to present you with Charmander's first evolution...
...Charmeleon! Certainly more imposing.A lot stronger, too. This will make a big difference in the fight with Brock. How do you feel, big guy?Ready to rumble! But let's get Susan ready first.Really, I think Susan should stay out of it. She's hardly an experienced...battler and she's got...weakness...zzzzz...By any chance, was this the attack you were waiting for?Hah! Nice. Sleep Powder. Yeah, that's the one. Now, so long as everybody does what I say, we should be all right. What about snoozeypants?Ah, let him sleep it off. We don't need him for this.
Okay, here we are. We can't go any further until we get past this gym. Is everybody ready?
Ready as I'm gonna be.I'll do whatever it takes to keep my daughter safe.Call me if you need me!Mommy'll beat up the bad guys!*snrt* Huh...wha? What happened? You dozed off. We're at the gym. What's Lacey giggling about?Oh, you know how little girls are, always giggling about this and that...let's get started.
Y helo thar, Manic!Uhm...okay. Not scripted, then. Not even a little. Well, maybe a little! Shut up!Lacey, get behind Mommy.Right. Okay, so you're nuts.
And I'm going to leave you and your pokemon stone dead! Get it? GET IT?!Oooookay. So we're going with less the Gary 'evil mastermind' crazy, and more the 'Joker' crazy. I'm not even slightly surprised. You remember what Gary said, right?Well, yeah. Now imagine what it must be like to be the first man down every time.Your little Charmeleon is smart, smart, smart! Too bad he'll soon be dead, dead, dead!
Time to grind you to gravel!Susan, I need you front and center. Mommyyyyyy...It's all right, sweetie. Mommy's here. Manic, I hope you know what you're doing.Don't worry. He always leads with a Geodude. It should have a rock-type attack, but for whatever reason, it doesn't. Oh, a wise guy, huh?
Wouldn't have it any other way. Susan, open with Sleep Powder. While it snoozes, use Confusion on it. You want me to beat up someone who's asleep?Consider the alternative. ...right, then. Confusion it is.
That was surprisingly easy.Don't get comfortable. He's going to send his Onix out next, and it does have a Rock attack. Use Sleep Powder on it, then swap out for Aaron. A solid strategy. All right, it's out...now it's my turn!Do I even need to tell you what to do? Obvious Metal Claw is obvious!Aaron, be careful, it's waking up!EEK! Leave him alone, you big dumb snake!
INCOMING! Bring it on!
... No, no, no! You were supposed to DIE!Wow, that looks......like less than a quarter of your health lost.THAT was their ace in the hole?!...Aaron, you know what to do. Now I almost feel guilty. Almost.
NOOO! Not again! I hate you, hate you, hate you!And I don't care, don't care, don't care! Badge. TM. Now. Lacey, what are you doing? Get back here this minute! But he seems sad, mommy. It's okay, mister Brock. You must be strong too, Manic was scared!Don't...I...what?It's true! He was saying 'I dread this fight' and he made everyone train extra super-hard!You're...you're making that up! Nobody thinks that about me!Well...if I'm going to be honest...it's true. I even made Aaron evolve. Before the first gym. That's pretty rare for me. You don't think I'm a joke? He's serious. Look at our team. Vulnerabilities everywhere. It's not your fault someone coded you badly.
Fine, here. It's been a while since someone got through here without mocking me.Y'know, when we get this all sorted out, maybe we can chat Nintendo up, see about getting you an upgrade. You deserve better than this. I...well...thanks.You should be thanking Lacey.Yeah, I guess I should. Thanks, Lacey. You're welcome! Still think she's a liability, Carver?Anybody can get lucky once in a while.Oh, shut up.Hey, what are...you... zzzz...C'mon, everyone. Let's keep moving.
Huh, so that's what they look like. Sorta like bowling shoes, right?I was just thinking that!Hey, as long as they work.
Huh. You know, if I was writing this, this is about where I'd cut the update off.

Firebrand - I'm glad you're enjoying! This run is where I really feel like I started to get better.
mogu - It's going to take a while! A long while. And keep in mind all the non-canon runs! There's a LOT to do. But if it means safeguarding my body of work, what choice do I have?
Anyway, this update was a pretty big one. Meet Lacey! Meet Susan! Meet...a very screwed-up Brock! And evolutions all over the place, as bugs are wont to do.

Seeing as I've already read all your runs, Manic, I'm going to refrain from commenting too much (can't give away spoilers if you never talk *forehead tap*), but I just want to say that I love your character interactions. You have a talent for having them clash and clash until something gives and they find some form of mutual respect for each other, which I appreciate.

Dude! I haven't read these runs in FOREVER! This must be a big trip down memory lane for you. Idk if you're just porting over the old runs or if you're going to finish Eclipse and maybe new runs, but if you do, good luck! I can't wait to reread these!

crimsondoom - Characters from different walks of life forced to find a common ground? Makes perfect sense to me! Yami - I have every intention of finishing Eclipse, as well as others. I just...dear god. Tapatalk is so much trash.
Okay, let's get going. Lots of ground to cover. We can take down anything in our way, don't worry. Don't get cocky. That's how you lose teammates. I hate to say it, but Carver's right. The trainers here will be tougher.
Nuh uh, we're not even facing you!I think she's scripted to say that, sweetie.Scripted?A lot of these people are like robots, Lacey. They only say what they're programmed to say.Neato!Lacey, c'mon, don't poke them. I'm not actually sure Trevor is entirely right on this one.
(a bunch of fights later...)
So...many...trainers...! This was a lot easier when I was on the other side of the pokeball!Mommy, I'm tired!Don't worry too much. We can go back to the pokecenter any time we need a breather. I won't push you too hard. Yeah, don't worry about it. If anything happens, I'll step up!
Phew! Thank god this side has less trainers. Wanna buy a Magikarp, kid?Get lost, bozo. What's a Magikarp?Wow. Um. How does one explain a Magikarp... It's a fish with no damaging attacks that evolves into a really big fish with no on-type attacks if you can endure leveling it enough.Actually, that's pretty apt. What does 'on-type' mean?Oh, right. Well, for example, Aaron is a Fire type, so an on-type attack for him would be anything Fire. His fire moves also get half again more powerful because of his type. Your on-type moves would be Bug or Flying, Lacey's would be Bug or Poison, and so on. Anyway, let's move on, maybe we'll get a Nidoran!
Or maybe not. Lacey, would you sting him a couple of times? Easy now, you're bigger than he is. Okay! One and two!Annnnd bam! *click* Nice. 'Sup, bro.Uhm...'sup. Don't spaz, dude. You holdin'?Nnnnnope. Lemme guess, frat? PHI BETA LAMBDA RULES!Maybe I should just let Gary kill me. Okay, so...what's your name?
Bros call me Vince. You a bro?Mommy, why is the monkey man talking funny?Dude, ditch the squirt, she'll cramp our style.Hey! The 'squirt' is bigger than you, pal. She's also an Adamant Beedrill. You might not want to get on her bad side.Hey, hey, it's cool, I'm cool. Chill.I'm Manic. I'm your new trainer. This is Aaron, Trevor, Carver, Lacey, and Susan. Here are the basics: Lacey was a six year old girl, Susan is her mom, Trevor's nice, Carver's smart, and I'm in charge. That's cool, I can hang.Wow. That was...surprisingly quick. That's how I roll....right. Well, we need to train Vince up. Front and center, pledge!
(zomg all of the training later)
Manic, why are we going back instead of forward? Two reasons. One, we could use a few more potions. Two...
...that. I suppose it does pay to be prepared.Vince won't be the last pokemon we catch. (Though I have to admit, it's nice that they don't freak out anymore.) Sorry, Manic.Hey, it's okay. You didn't even have the chance to catch anybody, you couldn't have known. Yeah, and you're doing way better as a pokemon than you did as a trainer!Aaron! How rude.Oh, uh, right! Sorry. Heh. I didn't mean it like that. It's okay. I'm just glad to be able to help out!Can we go? I don't think I even eat, and I'm still gonna be sick.Yeah, let's get going. Mt. Moon awaits, in all its whatever.
Okay, quick bag check. Potions? Check!Pokeballs? Check!Various doodads I won't need for a while? DOUBLE check.Teachy TV? What?!Just making sure you were paying attention. C'mon, let's head inside.
Woooooow...Jeeeeeeez. I remember this place being big, but it's a lot bigger in person! Manic, do you know your way around?Pretty sure, yeah. I think the game designers had a thing for going counter-clockwise. The same strategy that worked in the forest should work here. You remember your way through Mt. Moon? Not bad.Everybody stick together, don't get separated!Good plan. Aaron, hang back. Vince, I want you to take point. Zubats won't have any flying attacks yet, you'll resist rock attacks, and you'll be super-effective against a Clefairy. Sure thing, bra.Yeah, all right.
Oh, hey. New ally. Meh. What's wrong?Oh, requisite Zubat is requisite. Also, the designers didn't put its final evolution in the game, so it'll never quite measure up. Still... *click*So, why waste a pokeball?Remember those rules I was telling you about, the ones I'm being forced to follow? Yeah?1a. Dupe clause set to 'no'. May not catch pokemon if it is a dupe. If it is, retry until a new pokemon is found.
In other words, if I catch this one...huh, the ball has a readout saying 'Clarence'...I don't have to catch any others we find. Where'd he go?Oh, right. Whenever I have six pokemon in my group - and I do - anyone else I catch is stored in the PC. I wonder how that works. So he's in a computer?Kind of? Maybe? I guess we'll find out in a while.
Someone should really clean this place up.That's me! Of stuff, and of Rocket goons. Who are these clowns? The story villains. With the exception of the boss, they're pretty much all incompetent. They burn well, too.Beating the average Rocket grunt is so simple, even Trevor could do it.Fight! Fight! Fight!Hey, hey, no. Nobody's fighting each other here. Save it for your opponents. That blows.
(finally...)
I'm glad we're not gonna have to do that again. You missed a ladder.Like I said. Not gonna have to do that again. You don't want...Let it go! Everyone's tired. We need a rest.I could use a beer. There's no beer in this world, Vince. Yeah, right. There's beer in every world, man.Not this one. He's not kidding. There isn't.Not a drop throughout all of Kanto.Dude, what the hell, man? I need to get my brew on!Well, your alcoholism is just going to have to wait. And mind your mouth around my daughter.
Roar, huh. Hardly worth the effort of picking it up.Why?All it does it end a wild pokemon battle or force a trainer to switch. That's all? That's all!Wow. Even I know that's pretty weak.Hey, Vince? Where are you going? Get away from there, those might be trainers!
Relax, bro. They're cool. The guy on the left is, anyway. Guy on the right has his panties in a twist.That's...huh. Interesting. Why did you choose Mega Punch over Mega Kick? Accuracy. Hitting stuff's important, man. There's a man who knows his priorities. You know it. High-five! Oh, uh...yeah. Well, yeah.
Cerulean City. I don't like the way you said that...He's got two very good reasons. It's pretty, though!Yeah, pretty deadly. Misty is the gym leader here. Water type, so Aaron's at a disadvantage. Worse, her pokemon are top-notch. Way too many people wipe to her. Especially after Gary's done wearing them down.Mommy, isn't Gary that bad man? It's all right, sweetie. Mommy's here. He won't hurt you. It's cool. No way I'm gonna let some nerd hurt a little kid. That ain't how Phi Beta Lambda works.Manic, in our current state...I know. We need to heal, then we need to train. A lot. Let's show people around town first, though.
Laughing at bike prices, getting restocked...okay, let's get out there! Our goal is level 20, folks.
Along the way...
Whoah! Uh...this means I'm evolving, right?Yep! Everybody give him some room! Dude, quit showin' off. It's evolution, Vince. Close your eyes for a second, check him out when he comes out of it.
Hey, nice!Whoah! Nice buff, bro! Bet you could bench one-eighty!Yay, Trevor's big! And pretty! She means you look very handsome, dear. It's true. The look suits you. Very nice.Yeah, yeah. Way to not die.Hey, Carver?Yeah?U mad?FFFFFFFFUUUUUUU...
Oh, nice. VERY nice. Lacey, honey, be careful with that.Excellent. Our survivability just went way up. Twineedle is one of Beedrill's best moves, and it'll help a lot in Misty's gym.Why would...ohh, right! Forgot.Huh?Starmie is part Psychic. Psychic is weak to Bug. Combine that with Lacey's natural attack stat, and I think we have our Starmie-stopper.
Finally!Oh, I'm looking forward to this. Here we go!
Okay, now that's just downright majestic. Now what do you have to say, Trevor? What now?Good for you!Wait, what? The team's stronger now! And I know you really wanted to evolve. Good for you!Maybe you should pay a little more attention, Carver.Don't listen to 'em, you're still really buff. Bet you get all the bird honeys.I can't wait.Okay, we've put this off long enough. Let's get this over with.
Hello there. A full team, is it? Well, I suppose quantity can substitute for quality.Gary. You sick bastard. Lacey is SIX YEARS OLD. And yet, quite the fighter. Hello, Lacey.Mommy says I shouldn't talk to strangers.Stay away from my daughter, you animal!Says the butterfly. At any rate, I'm here for your next challenge. I wonder how many of your new friends I can kill this time. Before we start, let's do a little more exposition. I mean, it's not like you're short on time. I suppose so. Shoot.
Why was Brock all crazy? Why do you think? It sounded like he was upset about being beaten so often, but he snapped out of it. What's the deal? Oh, Manic. ALL of the gym leaders work for me. The Elite Four and Champion, too. It was just a matter of taking their natural insecurities and...improving on them. Okay, that doesn't make sense. You shouldn't have the power to do that. No, I suppose I shouldn't, should I? Well, see for yourself. Now, that was your one question. Prepare yourself!
Oh, now I almost feel guilty. You couldn't know, but...I've been spending this entire journey resisting the urge to beat the stupid out of someone who looks exactly like you.... This is really going to hurt.!!!
Told you.Hmph. Try this out!Lacey, you're up!
I...I don't wanna fight it...I'm scared...Lacey, sweetie, I know you have a bad history with Rattatas, but...remember what you just learned? Mommy? If Manic says it'll be okay, I trust him. Go ahead, Mommy's right here. Now, try your Twineedle attack on it.
Wow! I got it?Whoah. Dang, girl!I did tell you not to get on her bad side.Ugh. I wish I didn't have to do this.Oh, right. Susan, could you handle this one?
I'm not sure I understand.Er, its only move is Teleport. And that doesn't do anything in trainer battles. That's awful! Why would you choose me to fight it?Because eventually, it's going to be an Alakazam. Psychic type. Guess what they're super-effective against? What's that?Poison types. Like Lacey.
And STAY down. Now it's time for the main event!Trevor, you got this, right? You know it!
Send Aaron out. I just want to...talk.Sorry, pal. Not gonna happen. Then I'm just going to have to Water Gun you until you do.You're not going to hurt my friends!Oh? And which ones are your friends? The smart-mouth bird, the dumb jock monkey? All of them, including those two!
One good critical hit and you're done. I wonder if the girl will put up more of a fight. You keep...your filthy hands...OFF OF HER!
Whoah... I think a tactical retreat might be in order...Hey, man. You okay? Why do you care?C'mon, we're still buddies. We may have gotten chosen by different sides, but we're still friends, right?Get me out of here, Gary.
You don't deserve easy! Look at what you did to them!Mommy, why is Trevor mad?I think he's angry at what Gary did to us, honey. How adorable. I think I may be sick. Anyway, perhaps you should go visit Bill before Misty destroys you, Manic.
Of course, I've just come from there, so he might not quite be himself. So that's how it happens! You didn't know? It's not really canon, but it's sort of accepted that Gary is somehow responsible for what happens to Bill.
Hey, nerd! Gimme a reason I shouldn't pound your face in! I wondered how long this would take. *click* EEEEEEEEEEE! Lacey, get behind me right now! Whoah! Whoah. Gary, put the gun down. Let's talk this out.
Don't worry, Manic. I'm still bound by the rules, same as you are. I can't break them until you do...say, by allowing one of your pokemon to attack me directly? Damn coward. Say what you will, but every time you break the rules, I get to as well. Swim instead of surfing? I get to cheat. Use a HM without the requisite badge? I get to cheat. And for you, cheating means... The first time I get to cheat, I'm going to blow Lacey's brains out.
Oh, you sick sack of...! Yes, by all means! Attack me personally. I'd be delighted. I assure you, I won't miss. Mommmmmmeeeeeee! Wow. That's low, even compared to the other things I've seen from you. Rrrrrgh...everybody reel yourselves back. We're going to win this by the rules. Smart boy.
Really, it's kind of sad. So I think I'll make this more interesting. 8. HERBICIDE - You must sell all berries at the earliest opportunity, and may not use them.Wha...buh...how...?! Poor boy. You really have no idea what you're up against, do you? Well, I must be going. Smell your rotting corpse later!Get back here, you owe me some answers!
Gone. Manic. What did he just do?Dude, you look totally spooked.Manic. Are you okay?He just added a new rule...no berries for this run. Mommy...Manic looks scared...Wait. He can add new rules?!I think we're in trouble.

And there you have it. Why not ignore the rules? That's why.
And apparently Gary can make NEW rules. Isn't that lovely?
At least we're rolling six deep, thanks to our new Mankey frat boy.
Next up, time for Misty!

Okay, people. We've got Misty to deal with, and we have not one single super-effective move against her. We need to get some teammates! At least her Starmie doesn't know any Psychic moves.I know. If it did, I wouldn't be planning to bring Lacey out against it. What about Bill? She's right, Manic. If that psychopath has already gotten to Bill, he may need our help right away.I know that, but more allies might help us to get to Bill more easily. That route is crawling with trainers. The longer we talk about it, the later it gets. Let's go!
(Five battles later...)
Like runnin' the gauntlet back when I was a frosh!I hate to break it to you... Those weren't the trainers he was talking about. How many are there ahead?!I don't remember exactly, but I think it was somewhere from eight to ten. That's a lot of fighting!Don't think you can handle it?Guys, break it up. It's prize time.
Oh, hey, nice. What's it do?Nothing, actually. It's just worth a lot of cash. Then we sell it for supplies? Not much else you can do with it.
Aren't those the bad guys? Don't do it, Manic!Heh...don't worry, I won't. They call themselves professionals, but they're actually pretty easy to beat. How come?Dude, check 'em out. They dress like queers!Hey! Mind your mouth. Fact is, they use very weak pokemon and do so badly. One psychic or ground attack is enough to take down almost any of them. If you need my help with them, just call. You know I will.
Attract? What's it do?Makes an opposing pokemon of the same gender fall in love with you. Whoah, dude. I'm not lookin' for any monkey lovin'.Yeah, something tells me this thing's going in the bag and staying there. I dunno...What, really?Hey, I've been some variety of my species line for a while now. You get to thinking. Don't worry, I'm not gonna use it.Man, we need to get you back to normal in a hurry.
Okay...everybody hold perfectly still. C'mon, bra. Lemme pop it one!Vince, the only move Abra knows is Teleport, remember? It'll escape from combat on the first turn. I get one shot at this. Everybody cross your...well, everybody wish for luck!
GAHHH! Ah well. It was a longshot anyway. Why not do 'nother one?Oh, I wish I could...but that was the first wild pokemon we encountered. The rules say if it faints or runs - or, in this case, teleports - I'm just out of luck for this route. Man, that's harsh.Yeah, that's Nuzlocke. Meant to be a challenge. Don't worry about it, there's still one more place left to look.
NICE. Precisely what we needed! Can I punch it?Yeah. Just once! Stupid thing won't fall! We're not trying to make it fall, we're trying to weaken it!And that should do the trick... *click* Bam! Bingo.
Hmmm, the pokeball's readout says 'Hank'. We'll need to head back to meet him.
And now it's time for the moment of truth. What is he talking about, Manic?I can only have six pokemon with me, but I need to bring Hank in. Somebody on the current team will need to stay behind. Don't worry, Trevor. I'll take good care of everyone while you're out.About that...
HEY! What's the big idea?!Sounds like you've got a new home.Hey, could everybody leave me alone with Carver for a minute? Sure. Certainly. 'Kay! Whatever, bro. My pleasure.
Manic, you can't be serious. You need my power and my expertise! You're exactly right. That's why I'm putting you here. That doesn't make any sense at all!Carver, think about it. You know combat better than anyone else on the team, right? Possible exception of Aaron, but yes.Granted. And you know from experience that this run is barely getting started, right? Well, yeah. So, this box is going to be filling up with pokemon. Some of them might know how to fight, but some of them will need serious coaching. They'll need to be taught elemental effectiveness, how to exploit weak points, what to expect, and so on. I see...you want me to train the new recruits, huh?I need you to train the new recruits. You're the only one who can. The only reason I waited this long was so that you could evolve, and because we haven't had anyone else worth bringing in. Seriously. A Zubat and a...when did you pick up that Ekans?Route 4. Anyway, will you help me out? This is a position for which you're uniquely qualified. Trevor could never handle it. All right, Manic. You have a point.Besides, god forbid something should happen to Trevor, I'll need you as backup. I'll be in touch. Start formulating basic lesson plans.
You're back! Is he pitching a fit?Nope! In fact, he's happy with it. No, seriously though.Seriously. In fact, he's proud of it. Smooth, bra.I just told him that we needed him to train new recruits we catch. Which is...true. I assume you didn't tell him that we found him insufferable.I may have left that part out.
Sir! What are your orders, sir!Oh, hey. Um...Hank, right! Sir yes sir!Let me guess. Military? Army! On detail in Afghanistan before I wound up here, sir!Look, drop the 'sir' stuff, you're going to spook Lacey. At ease, soldier. Understood. Who is Lacey?Lacey is the Beedrill over there. She's six years old. Susan is the Butterfree, she's Lacey's mother. Don't look a bit alike, if you ask me.Yeah, well. Vince is the Mankey, Trevor is the Pidgeotto, and... I'm Aaron. Nice to meet you.And these are our troops?Well, they're not troops, but...yeah, so far. It's still early. I'll do whatever I can for the cause, s...uh...Manic. What, really?Screen name. The only one anyone knows me by, here. Understood.
Hmmm. Secret Power, huh? Not bad. What's the secret, dude?Well, it's fairly strong for this early, but a bit unreliable. Let's hold off until we need it. That's some discipline, son. I approve.Right, um...thanks. Let's just keep fighting. Hank, stay on point, you need to catch up with the rest of the crew. Line 'em up, I'll lay 'em out! You've got good spirit!Well, thanks kindly...Trevor, right? Good to be on the team.
Okay. Here's Bill's place. Brace yourself, people. For what?... In the normal story, Bill gets turned into a pokemon, and the player turns him back into a human. But the rules don't apply anymore, so we don't know what to expect. Be ready for anything. Thanks, I guess I'm used to Carver doing that. Hey, don't worry about it. I've got your back.
Bill? Cleffa clef?Hang on, we'll get you... oh dear lord...Dude, this stuff is trashed. So, how do we change him back now?I hate to say this... We don't. Bill was the only one who knew how this thing worked, and he's, well...you can see.Can you capture him?According to the game, he's not a wild pokemon, so no. Every time I see something he's done...At ease, soldier. Anger is a weapon you hand to your enemy. We'll fix this. You'd better believe we will. Come on, let's train for Misty.
(soon enough...)
Rrrrgh...having trouble here!Hank, don't fight it! It's evolution, it's a good thing!Hank's gonna be big, whee!Don't you worry, little lady...I got...this...!
'Ten hut!Heh...you don't need to salute, Hank. That looks more like gratitude than anything else. That's an affirmative! Gettin' stronger all the time. That's good, because we're going to need your help against Misty. Entire teams lose to her if they aren't prepared.Manic says Lacey can take down the Starmie, but I guess he needs you for the Staryu? Then point me at her!
Okay, here we are. But before we go in, I want to take stock. Brock was rough, but Misty has real potential for a team-wipe if we're not careful. Right. Huddle up, people.EEP!Whoops! Sorry about the tail, Lacey. Just get a little higher, okay?Right. What's the battle plan?
Aaron, you're weak to water, so you come in as a last resort. Trevor, Vince, Susan, you're backup if I need to heal someone. Hank, you're on Staryu detail. Lacey, that Twineedle attack will work great on her Starmie. Anybody needs help, I've got super potions ready. Everybody got it? Got it. 'Scool. I'm here for you. Just keep my baby safe.I will, don't worry. Hank, Lacey, you know your jobs? Affirmative! Crowd control and support fire! Firm'tive! Control the fire! Then let's get in there!
But an ugly one. Look at your ridiculous clothing, and who does your hair, the Beedrill?Hey! I do not!Even your pokemon are ugly, all bugs and lizards and plants. Don't you have any fashion sense? You're freaky-lookin' yourself, babe!Okay, wait. Gary said something about playing on insecurities... Enough waiting! I'm going to tear you apart so we can get the janitors in here! Ew!
Engaging the enemy, sir!Look, I said... Psst, Manic. Let him do it. I think it helps him focus.Oh, all right. Eliminate the enemy, soldier!
Enemy down!Good work! Now, see about putting that Starmie to sleep, and swap out so Lacey can do her thing. Affirmative!Okay, it's under. Lacey, it's your turn! This should be easy! Okay! Hi there!Ugh...do you have even one pokemon that won't make me want to vomit? What a rude, nasty little...Lacey, honey, don't hold back!EEK!Wha...it woke up after one round?!
Lacey, get out of there! Hank, I... I gotcha, boss! Hey, tough guy! 'stead of picking on little girls, why not try somebody your own size!Oh jeez...I forgot how tough this thing really is! Hank, back down, we can swap someone in to stall! ...Hank? Heh heh...ow...wait for it.
NO! How could my beautiful team be beaten by a bunch of ugly losers?!Misty, listen. It's okay. Losing to us doesn't make you any less pretty. What are you talking about?! I look like a boy! I can't even get a date!Ma'am, if you don't mind my sayin' so, yer a sight for sore eyes.
You're just trying to fool me like you fooled Brock! Gary warned me!Gary's manipulating you, somehow. Taking all your darkest parts and bringing them out of control. I wasn't lying to Brock, and I'm not lying to you. I hate liars. It's true! I saw it all, honest. I mean, if I were still human...You don't think...I look like a tomboy? Really?Oh, honey. You have such lovely hair! I bet we could do so much with it. You just need to stop listening to people who tell you that you aren't pretty.*snf* Well...do you think we could try working on my hair...after this?Of course. I already have some ideas in mind!I don't understand. I'm usually not like this...Misty. Do you remember me from other runs? You're, um...wait...Alec, right?Close enough. Listen, somehow Gary has the ability to cloud the minds of others. He's using it on all the gym leaders. Just try to be strong, I know you can do it.I will. I promise.
Okay, team. We did good work in there. Let's get healed and pass through that house the policeman was guarding earlier. Manic, do you mind if I stay back for a little bit? Lacey, too?Of course not. I understand girl time. Do your thing, help Misty feel good about herself again, and join us when you're ready. We won't go far. We gonna break in or somethin'?Doesn't sound right to me.Guys, take it easy. They'll let us through. It's scripted. In fact, we'll do better than just get through legally...
...we'll find the actual crook! Let's pound him!......Bossman?What? For once, I agree. Let's pound him! FINALLY!
(one serious thrashing later...)
Nice. That's going to be pretty useful! Not returning it?I know, I know, but it's scripted. Here, watch... He's letting us keep it! Awesome! We're back! Did we miss much? Not much, just a Rocket fight. We got a new TM, too. Manic's beating up the bad guys!Ha! Well, I'm trying, Lacey. Now, let's keep moving. East or south?
Well, that answers that!Cut solves so many problems, except the big one.Whassat?Somebody has to learn Cut. It's really convenient, but a fairly bad attack. Fortunately, we don't have to worry about it yet.
Ahhh, right. The ledges, the daycare, the tunnel. I remember this place. Is that good or bad?Pretty good, actually. We can get a new teammate here, and this is a great training spot. C'n we stop soon...?Sure thing, Lacey. Just a little more, and we can take a break. The ledges are a really safe place to be. First, though, we head back to town.
That would be a pretty embarrassing way to lose a catch. Keeping supply lines up is always a solid plan.Oh, hey, I want you all to meet someone I hate.
So he's thirsty. So what?*sigh* He's not going to let us through until we get him a drink. So, let's get him a drink.Can't. The nearest drink stand is several cities away. We have to go back out and take the underground tunnel ALL the way under the city he's guarding, and come out the other side. Maniiiiiiiiic......tomorrow. One last thing to do today, find our new friend.
Oh, cool, a Meowth. Not so good for combat, but if she has Pickup, it'll totally be worth it. Before anyone asks, pokemon with Pickup sometimes find items. Mostly berries, which kind of sucks, but sometimes they can find things like TMs and Rare Candies.Even one Rare Candy is totally worth it. Candy? Really?Well...yeah. I don't know what it tastes like, but it'll increase a pokemon's level by 1. Hah! The army's MREs wish they were that good. Let's catch 'er!A bit of Poisonpowder, if you would? I'm on it. *click*Bingo!
Hmm. This says her name is Tina, but it doesn't tell me what her ability is. I hope Carver is nice to her until we get there. Ah, it's Carver. He'll probably nerd at her, but he's not really so bad.Y'know, I heard some of what he said to you. You're all right, kid. You're not half-bad yourself, Hank. But...mmmh...now I'm tired too.Okay, let's bed down for the night.
Aaron? Yeah? When does the sun go down? Er, about that......crap.

Kinda makes you think, huh? When DOES the sun go down in Gen 3 Kanto? Answer: Not at all. Gotta hit Gen 4 for that.
Stands to reason that Misty would be a bit self-conscious about her appearance, and remember what Gary does.
As for Bill...we're not playing with the normal story any more. Not everyone can be saved.

Well, that's encouraging. Like, omigawd, hi! I'm Tina!WHAT.Hee hee! I'm kidding! You should've seen your face.HAH! Good one.Seriously though, I'm Tina. Who're you?Oh, right. I'm Manic, this is Aaron, Vince, Trevor, Hank, Susan, and Lacey. So, uh, about all this.Near's I can tell, ma'am, the enemy...Right, I got sucked into the game and turned into a pokemon. Not bad, really.Wow...huh. That's a pretty quick adaptation. You can't keep a good girl down, honey. Now, I guess you need my help, right? I'll do what I can for you. And sure, I'll keep Flash and Cut. That one's not hard to figure out. You're taking this surprisingly well.At least I'm not a Koffing or something, right? Anyway, let's go.In a bit. This is Carver, he'll be teaching you some basics. We'll be back for you.
Okay. Everybody ready for a really long walk? Walk? Well, fly, anyway. Flying is fun!Sure, I guess.Hang in there, man. We're getting closer. *sigh* Yeah, I know...Buck up, soldier! Every army needs its ground troops.C'mon, bra. Race ya!Whoah, wait for the rest of us!
Whew! Heh...I still...got it...!Jeez, man. You can really book when you want to. You a track star or somethin'?Nah, I'm just... ... ... ... ah, crap. What's wrong?Hey, Manic. No dupes rule, right?Well, yeah. What's the matter? There are only three kinds of pokemon on this route. What's wrong with that?Meowth, Oddish, Pidgey....great. No legal catches on this route. C'mon, let's hit town...after I show you something.
Okay. See that patch of ground right in front of me? Affirmative.See that little discolored patch in the center? That's a negative. Where?Right there. Don't you see it? I do. It's right there.I can't see it, mommy. You yankin' my chain?Ahhh, I get it. Trevor has Keen Eye, Susan has Compoundeyes, but the rest of you...anyway, it's there. That means there's a hidden item. I just wish we could keep it. Want me to burn it so we don't have to look at it?Nah, we'll sell it. Ten bucks is still ten bucks.
YES. All of my yes forever. God, I love this thing. What's it do?It lets us face off against trainers as often as we want. More money, better experience, faster leveling. Yaaaay! I can stomp some trainer butt!Lacey! Where did you hear that language?Uh...sorry. I mighta let some stuff slip.Let's see how many status ailments I can inflict on you at one time, shall we?!RIGHTSOANYWAYmovingon.
I like pokemon too!Uh oh.
Uh huh! Ponies are pretty!Something's not right here.Dude likes pokemon a little too much.
Okay, way too much.Lacey, come back to mommy now, dear.Oh! Uh...don't tell anyone about that, okay? Here, just take this. We never had this conversation.
Uhm... It's not like we have a choice. Is he a bad man?Nah, don't worry. You ain't gotta know about that stuff yet.Good call. You can hang out in the center if you want, I'll go back and get the bike. Affirmative, we'll hold the front. You know I'm coming with you.Obviously. After all... 5. PERSISTENT STARTER - You may not remove your starter from your active team....it's not like I have a choice.
Thanks. Hey, Aaron. How about you tell me a little about yourself, while we're running solo? Sure, I guess. I've been a Charizard a few dozen times, a lot of people don't get that far. I really like Brick Break and Rock Slide, they offer great coverage...Listen...I meant what you were like as a human. Oh! Right. I was nothing special, really. Ordinary college student, got back into Pokemon after years of going without. English major. Not much to tell, really.Hmm. I see. What's wrong? You look worried.Nah, it's nothing. Just a theory. C'mon, let's head back and join the others.
Get a bike, ride a boat. You're a strange one.Hey, this is where we're going to get Cut. It's an important step. Have you decided who gets to learn it?Yeah. Tina is right, she can learn Cut and Flash, and she doesn't seem to mind. I'll bring her in when we need them. She's a real team player, huh? Let's just relax and enjoy the cruise for now, though.Afraid we won't be on this ship when it sails. Aw, why not?Because that's not how the plot goes. We get Cut, we leave the ship, it sails. Bam. But for now...
...we fight, loot, and rest, in that order. Lootin' isn't cool, bra.Normally, no, but this stuff is specifically there for us to take. Besides, it keeps the enemy guessing!
Manic, wait.Don't worry. I know. 'Sup, bra? Can't you feel it in the air?...he's right around that corner, isn't he?He is. Everybody get ready, and remember: he's going to try to goad us into breaking the rules. Don't fall for it.
Je vais tuer vos amis! What are you jibbering about now? Ne parles-tu pas le francais? I was saying, "I am going to kill your friends."Who is this pantywaist?Right, you haven't met. Hank, Gary. Gary is the one who's responsible for all of us being here, and for you being stuck like this. The Osama bin Laden of this world, huh?Pretty much. He's incredibly dangerous on levels I don't understand yet. Are you quite done? I'd like to get on with this. You get one question, just like always.Hmmm. If I pass up the question, will you promise not to add a rule? Let me think...no.Fine.
How is it that you can add and subtract rules? I'm supposed to be playing by my rules, not yours. A valid question, but a bit narrow. I'm feeling generous, I'll expand on it.Be my guest. You're right, I shouldn't have the power to do this sort of thing on my own, and I don't. I have friends in low places helping me.What? Why would anyone help you do this? It's quite simple, really. He wants your world, and drawing people in creates a vacuum. Evidently, it's rather taxing to do...but once you lose, there should be enough room for him to pass through in exchange. We both get what we want; he gets your world, I get this one.Well, that does narrow it down a little. Shall we, then?If I said 'no', would you stop?
Didn't think so. All right, team, you know this song. Let's show him what we've learned! Bend over and try to relax, because this is really going to hurt.
You only win because you have the ability to grind and I don't, you know.Man, I don't care if I win because of Celebi farts. I win, you lose, that's the story. Well, if you're going to put it that way...9. FAIR FIGHT - You may only bring as many pokemon into a gym leader battle as that gym leader has.Hah! I knew it! Thanks for proving me right, Gary. What are you talking about? You can only do that whenever I beat you in a match. Well, good for you, you figured it out. How does that help?Forewarned is forearmed.
Is it just me, or did he pronounce that funny? That wasn't funny at all!No, he's right. That did sound suspicious.Oh god. The emphasis...
Good lord... Lacey, come outside with mommy. But I wanna see!Lacey, honey, don't you want to see the seagulls? They're out this way. Come on. We'll catch up soon, Manic....the emphasis was on the 'was'.Bra...this is fucked up.He...he still has the HM on his body. Manic.Huh...? Manic. Get the HM and let's go. If we get caught in here with his body...Right...right. Come on.
How will they run the ship with no captain? Chain o' command. They'll be all right. We got two worlds to save.Yeah, I know. You look sad.I know it's all just pixels, they aren't real people, but...I mean, he was right there. War is hell, son. We gotta keep movin'.What are you doing, Vince?Last respects, man. Nobody deserves that.Just when I think I have you figured out.Layers. I'm like Shrek, yo.
I'm not a big fan of this place.Wouldn't expect you to be, but Surge is tough, and we need a Ground type. Take it easy, soldier. I got you covered.Actually, that works really well. Susan, you're on backup. I understand completely.Okay. Let's...Hank, wait up!
Seriously, the gung-ho bit is already getting old! You need a new recruit. I got you a new recruit. Mission accomplished!*sigh* Fine. I guess it's true, this was going to happen anyway. *click* But we need to stick together, especially down here. Randy, huh...okay, soon. C'mon, we need to be team players!Trevor's right, don't be a dummy!Heh heh...all right, I read you, little lady.
Manic, a moment, please.Sure thing, Susan. What's up? You need to bring Randy and Tina up to speed. You need two spots for that. I'd like to volunteer Lacey and myself for the box.Well...sure, okay. Any particular reason? I think we could both use a break. And, well, truth be told? I suspect the others could use a break from Carver.I think you're too rough on him, but you have a point. Okay, you two can sit out for a bit. I'll be back. Be well, and stay safe.Heh! Okay, okay.
So, Tina. I've got Cut ready for you. And I'm ready to learn it! This'll be fun!Nnnnngh...what are...why are you...?!Uh...Randy, right? Are you okay? Ask him! No, that's stupid! Shut up!Dude's trippin'!G-get it...over with...!
(training 4evar...)
Oh, thank goodness. Phew. HI!You seem a lot less likely to snap and go berserk, now.Yes, I'm terribly sorry about that. So's your mom. I LIKE PANCAKES!Looks like we get three for the price of one.I always wondered how that worked.Thank you for rescuing us, we need to get our own bodies back. Yeah, I hate these two morons. GRAVY!So, uh...you up to taking Surge on? It's the least we could do. Fine, but you owe us. MONKEYS ARE SILLY!
Don't you know there's a war on?!Uh...the war ended a long time ago. The war never truly ends!Seen this before. For some men, the war follows them home. You! Name and rank, soldier!Sir yes sir! Hank, private first-class!These people are Hoenn spies and must be stopped! At arms!Negative, sir! There is no war with Hoenn! Not anymore! They got to you too, huh? All right, men! Engage the enemy! So, I get three pokemon, huh? I choose...Randy, Aaron, and Hank. Randy, you lead. Delighted. Slave-driver. DING DONG!
That was quite a match...I wouldn't want to do that again! Die, stupid shockrats! KANTO IS A FUNNY WORD! KANTO KANTO KANTO...If I have to fall in combat, so be it!Look at you. And you call yourself American! America is the land of the proud, the brave! Listen to you whining like a little girl!Just finish me, damn spies!
Nobody's here to rough you up, bra. Lemme give you a hand.Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!Charlton Heston. A classic. ...what do you know about Charlton Heston?I know he was one of the great American actors. Name some more...Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, James Dean, Marlon Brando... Hmph. Only an American would name those. My head's all foggy...Sir! Gary's control must've latched onto your war trauma and magnified it into full-blown paranoia! All gym leaders have been affected!Mealy-mouthed little bastard...well, here! Take this badge and this TM and go wreck him, that's an order!Sir, yes sir!
All right, team. Let's get over to the other side of the Diglett Cave. Going to put me to work? You don't mind, right? Are you kidding? I need to sharpen my claws.
Trees everywhere! It's like they all have bullseyes painted on them. You sound like an Arcanine!Very funny, lizardboy. Wanna know what else these claws work on?Hey, look! A tree right next to us! Why not show off your stuff, Tina?Nah, let's just head south. I'm curious about that little house.
Mine!Whoah! Chill, yo!Ah, let her have it. Does anyone else really want it?Even if you do, you're better off without it. I think I understand her a little better now. So, uh, when do I use it?Pretty soon here. Just need to finish up out here and then backtrack. First, though, a stop in Pewter:
It's the color of beer...At ease, soldier.Uh, Manic? I don't like the way Vince is looking at me...Hey! Monkey-boy!OW!Quit looking at your teammates like they're on the menu.Times like this, I miss Susan. All right, come on, let's not stick around. We can explore Route 9, now. Tina, would you do the honors? I'd love to! *slash!* Hah, I love that.
Sweet, Aerial Ace! Dibs!I'd certainly benefit from that. Give it here! SMELLS LIKE BACON!Uh, guys? Same-type attack bonus?I certainly don't need it.Ugh, you're such children!Morale's slippin' fast, boss. You'd better do something.

Morale's slipping fast. That's one way to look at it. Wonder if Susan and Lacey taking a powder had anything to do with it.
At least Surge is down, and broken out of his paranoia thanks to AMERICA!
Also, RIP Captain. Gary is not fooling around.

Ugh. What is it with this place and all the trainers? Oh, c'mon. It was fun!I'm just glad nobody got hurt. The trainers are getting tougher.Yep, but so are we.Oh, thank god, a pokecenter. C'mon, let's get healed up.
Why would Oak even give me this? You know, I asked him the same thing. What'd he say? That he was busy, and would explain later. This Oak fella?Professor Oak. He's on our side. Sort of a mentor, but not a combatant. Is he cool? Kegger back at his place when we're done?Uh, Vince? No booze, remember? I'm just messin'. U mad?Unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful. C'mon, let's go get our catch
Well, it's about time. What, you want a Rattata?Sort of. Actually, I want a Raticate, and catching a Rattata this late on makes her much easier to evolve. Aw, it's adorable. Stupid plaguebearer! CHEESE PLEASE!More importantly, it's a great HM user. Takes the burden off of the rest of you.
Readout says 'Emily'. Nice name, really. Reminds me of a girl back home. She hot?Son, you need to learn respect. She was a hell of a woman. So, what happened?Got shipped off. Day before I left her, she left me.Ouch, man. Sorry to hear it. 'Sarright. Helped me focus.C'mon, let's get our catch from Route 10!
Finally, an electric type!Um, right. I'll just wait over here. It's all right, you'll be safe. Stop being such a pansy! BUZZ LIKE A BEE! BZZZZZZZZZZ...It's a ball, son. Red an' white. Just missin' some blue, and we're in business!C'mon, guys. Lay off. He's right to avoid electric types. It's cool, bra. We got yer back.Okay. We're as ready as we're likely to get...
Aaaaand lights on!You're like...a night-light or something!Damn fine work, ma'am. Now let's get through this place. Not much of a fan already.Hank, you're on point. Lots of rock and ground types around here. I hear ya, bossman. What about me? I want to play too.Stay close behind Hank. Hank, swap Tina in when you can.
That's a dude? No, see, the species name is Geodude. That don't look like a lady.Come on, be nice. God, you're ugly! IT'S A TRAP!Ugh...skip it. She could be really useful. Lay off.
Oh hell yeah. Aaron, you ready? My Body Is Ready.Aw, man. Hah! I always wanted to say that. C'mon, lemme have it.All right, all right. You know I spoil you. And you know I like it.
Uh...bro?Hang tight, soldier!Ahhh, it's about time! I can't wait to see what you can do when you've evolved!Relax, let it happen!
I am EPIC!Wow, I haven't seen a Primeape in a while. How come? They have a bad tendency to die before they evolve. Not on my watch. Actually, you look pretty similar, except your tail's gone. Good riddance, man. That thing was lame.Uh, right. Anyway, let's get the hell out of here already.
Still Route 10, huh? Afraid so. There's no grass on this side anyway.None at all? Boring!Yeah, just a few trainers. Let's get into town and resupply and heal.
Jeeeeeeeez. That thing is a damn monolith! What's its purpose?Oh, right. That's Pokemon Tower, and it's the home of deceased Pokemon. Lots of Gastly and Haunter in there. Hey, not bad.You like the spirits of the dead? Why not go join them? IT'S A DEAD MAN'S PARTY!No, most people don't know that the plural of a pokemon doesn't change. Like 'fish'.How do you remember all this stuff?Practice. Waaaaay too much practice.
She yankin' our chain?Seriously. Ghosts are a real, documented thing here. Yes, I believe. Son, are you tellin' me the dead walk among us?Float, actually. Ghost is a type, just like Grass or Fire or Ice. Don't seem right.Right or not, we don't get a say. That's just how things are. Better still, we need to scale that thing.
Ahhh, crap. Right. We need a Silph Scope to get through here. Well, let's go grab one!Not so easy. There isn't one in this town. Actually, Giovanni will have it, but he won't give it up easily. Oh, crap. That fight!Yeah, that fight. We'd better be prepared. Dude, don't spaz. It's cool, we got it.Vince, trust me, you don't. There's a Gary fight RIGHT before the Giovanni fight. That sounds very dangerous! I'll rip them apart! BOING!Guys, calm down! It's Manic. He's not going to let anything happen to us.
C'mon, let's go get our catch for this route and train a little. Looks like we got a canine on deck!Hank, watch it! Growlithe...Get back here! Bad dog!...knows Roar.[/color] Dumb mutt...I'll find you again, believe that! It's fine, it's fine. Tina, you should be okay to train here, right? Easy as pie! Just watch me go!FUCK!TINA!Goddamn lucky crits!Medic! We got casualties!Bro...hey, c'mon, this ain't funny...she'll be okay, right?Oh, sweet merciful heavens. This is your fault for being a shitty trainer! HAPPY PLACE, HAPPY PLACE!
Die, you little bastard!Come on, we need to get back to the center!
Good news, your Meowth is as good as new!What...seriously? Manic, don't. Just...box her, please. What's wrong with you? She said Tina's fine! Tell him, Tina. Meowth?Wha...I thought you said she was as good as new! She is! She's a perfectly healthy Meowth.Meow Meowth!Manic, look into her eyes. Ain't any mind there. Body's alive, but the brain...Oh, dear god. I'm sorry. I tried to warn you.
No...no, it's fine. I needed...I think I needed to know. Come on. Let's find a replaceOW! Dude, what the fuck, man? You can't just box her and replace her!Stand down, soldier! No way in hell! I ain't...I said stand down, now! Don't make me sleep powder you!Dude, fuck you, man. Fuck alla you. Box me, asshole.Fine. I'm...sorry, for what it's worth. Go to hell.
That's...that's two slots open. Manic, you look terrible. What happened?Where's miss kitty? She's pretty. It finally happened, didn't it.*nod*Don't take it out on yourself. It's almost impossible to finish a Nuzlocke with no fatalities. Let me guess. Lucky crit? That's an affirmative.
Lacey, sweetie, we're going to go out with Manic again for a while.Susan, you can't be serious, not... That wasn't a request, Manic. You need friends with you right now.Yeah...yeah, I guess I do. Thanks. A mother knows. And I know you did everything you could to stop it. Lacey, honey, let go of Manic.Mommy, I never saw anybody need a hug that bad. It's okay, Susan. Thanks, Lacey. I'm okay now. The two of you need training to catch up, though. But first...I think we owe Tina something.
Gary, I am not in the mood for you right now. Did you lose a teammate? That's awful!...what, seriously? Downright decent of ya.Of course! You finally have someone die, and I didn't get to kill them? How inconsiderate!I swear to god, I'm gonna shove your feet in your mouth and roll you down the stairs! Get in line!Wait, both of you stop! He's baiting you!You...I...aaaaagh! Fine. We solve this the usual way.
(battle not pictured because I derped past the screenshot points)
Get out of my sight, Gary. Now, now. Don't you want your hint before you get your new rule?Oh my god, I hate you so much. Yes. Is there any way to recover Tina's mind? Ooooh, I'm afraid not. She's gone forever, just like any other pokemon that faints under your leadership. Hmmm, you don't look very surprised.I'm not. I had just...hoped, is all. Aw, it wounds me to see you so downtrodden. Here, this should recapture your interest!10. BAIT AND SWITCH - You may not fish.Son of a... Hey, Gary.Hmmm? What is it, featherbrain? How's that Raticate of yours doing? Wow. That's kind of mean.Quiet your bird before I quiet him for you.Stuff it, Gary. Rules, remember? Very well. Perhaps the next rule will be less kind. For now, goodbye.Come on, everyone. Let's see what's south of here.
Return. Where? No, Lacey. Return is an attack that gets stronger, the happier the Pokemon is.Sounds very interesting. Sounds idiotic! SMELLS LIKE FISH!*giggle* You're silly!Which one?All of them!
Oh, right. I forgot all about him. C'mon, you've got to snap out of it.What? It's been a while. He's right, Manic. You've been distracted and distant since we left Lavender Town.Look, I'm sorry. I just can't stop thinking about it. Listen. Any war is gonna have casualties. They say war is hell for a reason, y'know.Hey. Remember when I said that you wouldn't let anything happen to us?God, do I ever. I keep playing it again and again in my mind. I still believe it. You may not be perfect, but I know that if anything does happen, you'll have taken every reasonable precaution to stop it.Your best skill is your confidence, you have to nurture it. Well, your best skill sure isn't trai*OOF!* MANIC'S NUMBER ONE!Do I even want to know where he got the pennant? Or how he's waving it? It's making my head hurt just thinking about it. Come on, let's move on, we're not going any further this way.
Okay. Let me see if I remember. We go through here, hit Celadon City...fight off Team Rocket, face, um. Okay, I know this. Koga.Right, Koga. Face Koga, get a drink, give it to the road guards, keep going? That's the long and short of it, yeah. And do some training along the way.And do some training along the way.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the shortest route in any game.I don't see it!We're standing in it.This little spit of land? He's right. I actually did a writing project where I made a paragraph out of its characteristics. An entire paragraph out of this?It wasn't easy. Now, c'mon, let's see about a catch.
HAH! Knew I'd find you again! Take a nap, mutt!Hey, c'mon now! Remember, that's a person in there, probably. Probably?Well, keep in mind that every route had random pokemon before this all started happening. They're not all likely to be former humans. Hmmm. You know, that sort of makes sense. He's right. Even lately, only about three out of every four pokemon caught in these runs were human beforehand. These runs? How many times you done this?I stopped counting after a while. A few hundred.*whistle* You're practically a veteran! No 'practically' about it.
Okay, team. Celadon City awaits. We've got TMs to buy, Rocket goons to beat, and a drink to fetch. And a new teammate to pick up.Right, that too.

There you have it. Like Carver said, it was going to happen eventually.
Probably less anticipated is Vince turning on Manic and demanding to be boxed.
Susan is such a mom about it, too. And Gary...well, Gary just likes to pour salt in the wound.

Aaaahh, I forgot that Tina was the first to fall. Poor girl... I wonder what she was like before Gary ensnared her? Did you have anything planned for her in case she made it through to the end, or were you still working on the story when she fell in battle?
