Welcome to one of my favorite runs! Lots of memorable characters, new surprises, and plot twists in this one! Don't assume that anything you knew beforehand applies here, it's a whole new world out there! RULES: 1. Catch only the first wild pokemon from each route. - 1a. Dupe clause is set to 'optional'. May skip dupes and catch the next. -- 1ai. A dupe is any pokemon that you have owned that still lives. - 1b. This rule does not apply until you get your first pokeballs. - 1c. MANDATORY SHINIES - If a shiny pokemon appears, you MUST catch it. Failure to do so randomly kills one of your active pokemon. Your starter is not exempt from this. If you catch a shiny pokemon, it must be added to your active party as soon as possible and cannot be removed. 2. Every pokemon has a name. Use it. Even a coffee cup has a handle. 3. NEVER FORGET - A pokemon that faints is dead. Put it in your box to remind you to be more careful next time. 4. Gifts, trades, etc. all count as the pokemon for their respective area. 5. PERSISTENT STARTER - You may not remove your starter pokemon from the active team. 6. STARTER DEATH - If your starter pokemon faints, the run is failed. 7. DEICIDE - For the run to be considered complete, all available legendaries must be eliminated. 8. KNOW THY ENEMY - For the run to be considered complete, you must defeat Alder. 9. THE CHASE - For the run to be considered complete, all six sages must be found. Updates: #1: Blues Traveler#2: Meet the Feebles
Wha? Oh, hey. Wait...a female professor? Come again? Certainly. Is there a problem with that? What? Well, no, I don't see why there would be. It's just never happened before, is all. Times do change, you know. Women are gaining equality in all sorts of fields! Good for you, I've never had anything against that idea. Remind me to introduce you to May sometime. I'm sure she's a delightful young lady.
Oh, so you know me. Well, that's a good sign. Er, yes. A good sign. Certainly nothing wrong with that. Okay, that sure sounded uncertain. Also, I'm sorry if it's slipped my mind, but I can't recall you in the slightest. Really? I just introduced myself. No, I mean I don't recall meeting you before today. OH! That's perfectly all right, you haven't met me before now. In fact, you still haven't met me. At any rate, I'm using up valuable time, so let me just introduce your two best friends. I'm sorry, run that by me again? Introduce me to my best friends? Yes, now hush and listen.
These are my best friends? Of course! Well, they are now, at any rate. Uh...huh. Aren't they just a bit young for me? Not at all! In fact, Cheren is a year older than you are. Look, Professor...Juniper, right? Right! This Cheren guy can't be a day over fourteen years old. In fact, he's sixteen. A bit of a late bloomer, but very mature. One year older than you. Er...miss, that's very flattering, but I haven't been fifteen in a very long time. I think you'll find that things are about to change.
Wow, this sorta takes me back. You sound like Professor Birch. Yes, I know. This sort of speech is fairly standard for professors, though we're allowed to customize it somewhat. Mind, there is something you'll have to do before your new journey begins. Uh huh. And what's that? You'll need to wake up. Wake...oh dammit, not again!
Hey. Hey, new kid. Buh...? HEY. New kid! Wake up! GAH! Oh! Hey. You're, uh... Cheren. Right. So, right. Um. Where's this Binaca person? I think you mean Bianca. She'll be here at any moment. Anyway, let's get to what's important.
Huh, right, the whole professor-handing-out-starters thing. Okay, sure, but how would I know where she is? It was a rhetorical question. Ugh. Jeez, man, take a pill. Take several, they're small. You know, I'm not sure I appreciate your attitude. I know you're a transfer student, but some customs are just universal. Okay, fine. Look, I'm sorry. Something weird is going on here. I don't know where I am or who you are. I'm told that some disorientation is normal. Just try to roll with it, and you'll get used to this place in no time.
A little...Bianca, you were supposed to be here over an hour ago! I'm sorry! You have to present a better face to the new kid. I'm sorry... Hey, hey, c'mon, nobody's perfect. She does this all the time. If we don't say anything, she'll just keep doing it. Yeah, but there's no need to ride her on it. It's okay. He's right. Anyway, I'm tired of calling you New Kid. What's your name? Oh, right! Sorry, I'm Manic. ...come again? Excuse me?
Manic. M-A-N-I-C. Okay, I'm going to overlook that as a cultural thing, but do not say that around me again. Come on now, what's your real name? You can tell us. I just did! My name is Manic. Always has been. You know, Champion of Hoenn? I told you to cut it out! You are not Manic. Really! Well, considering we just met, and you don't know what my name is, I'm curious to hear how you know I'm not Manic. Oh no, please, don't do this... You want to know how I know you aren't Manic? Do you really want to know?! I asked, didn't I?!
Two very important reasons! Number one, Manic vanished fifty years ago, and you're just a little too young to have been anything more than a fantasy fifty years ago. Wait...vanished? What? It's...it's true. Some fifty years ago, Manic just disappeared, and no one knows what happened to him. ...I have a theory. Tell me, what year is it? Oh, you've gotta be kidding. Please, just answer, it's a simple question. *sigh* Okay, fine. It's 2012. Feel better? Oh dear. Don't play games with me, I'm warning you. I'm not playing games! It's 2012. I ousted Wallace, that inept twat, from his position years ago and reparations are coming along nicely. What's this all about? Well, for one thing, it's August 1st, 2062 and you're in Nuvema Town in the region of Unova. ...WHAT. It's true. As for the other reason, how about you take a good long look in the mirror? Fine, if it'll make you happy. What's the big deal, anyway? Well, uh...
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU...!

Getting off to quite the start, no?
Manic seems to have been Rule 63'd, and Cheren is NOT pleased to hear the name.
As for Bianca, she's...well, she's Bianca! For the moment.

Update #1: Blues Traveler
Okay. So, let me see if I've got all of this right. It's 2062. I'm a girl. I have no access to any of my previous pokemon. I'm not in Hoenn. And the two of you are my new best friends.
This is somebody's sick joke, isn't it? I'm beginning to get the feeling there's something very wrong with you. C'mon, Cheren. Don't be mean to the new kid. Actually, I think I agree with him. None of this makes any sense. I don't even know how I got here. Well, I admit, I didn't come here to retrace the steps of your life. I'm here for the pokemon. Which pokemon where? Um...I think he means those pokemon there...in the box. Let me see that...
Wow, this takes me back. Although I did kinda choose Gustav on the spur of the moment. Y-you don't say... Yeah, Birch was being attacked by a wild Zigzagoon, and...feh, long story. Let's just take a look at the candidates.
Unfortunately, since the package was addressed to this house, you get first pick. Hmmm, I wonder how this works. Well, let's see here. Gustav was amazing, but I should probably hold off on a second water starter. Oh, um...does that mean...I can have the Oshawott? It's so cute! If that's okay... No, it's not. I'm taking Oshawott. Samurott has a diverse movepool and excellent defensive capabilities. You know what? This is my house (apparently), so Bianca? You get Oshawott. *gasp* You...you mean it? Sure, I can tell you'll treat it right. Now, that leaves the Snivy and the Tepig. Fantastic. Serperior gets a super-limited movepool and is mostly just fast, and Emboar has great attack stats and decent diversity in its moveset but not much else. What now?
Simple. I take Snivy as a teammate, and you get Tepig. That's just great. I get the one who'll crumple under a stiff breeze. Hey! You know it can hear you, right? I certainly hope so. Do you hear me, Tepig? You have an uphill battle ahead of you. He's like this a lot...very serious. Well, if he isn't nicer to that Tepig, it's going to be an even more uphill battle than he thinks.
Um... Sure, I'll take you on. Oh, I was s-sort of hoping Monique would face me... Who? Well, if you don't know your name, and you certainly can't go around calling yourself Manic... Monique. Hmmm. Yes, that'll do for now. Don't fret, we'll help you recover your memory. Please? If you don't, Cheren will insist that he face me... Huh. Well, okay, I guess it'll be all right. Just take it easy at first, don't overtax them.
O-okay...here I come!
Okay, I have to admit, Oshawott is pretty adorable. Gee, thanks. Aw, don't take it so hard. You're not bad yourself. The first words out of your mouth when you meet me are to praise the opponent's pokemon. I see we're going to get along just great. Seriously, get over it. I'll explain later, okay? Explain what? If I explain now, that's not later, is it? Okay, so, um...what now?
Okay! Combat 101, Bianca. Especially when you're dealing in low-level combat, your status moves will be a big asset. Growl, Leer, Defense Curl, that sort of thing. Use one first, then start dealing damage. I d-don't follow. Why first? Well, let's do the math. Let's suppose that my Snivy's Tackle will do 3 points of damage with no modifiers. Now let's suppose that Leer makes it 4 points. Points...? Or, y'know, insert arbitrary unit of measurement here. So, let's say that your Oshawott has 20 HP. If I start out with Leer, the battle will go Leer-4-4-4-4-Win. Six rounds. Right... Whereas if I don't, it's 3-3-3-3-3-3-Win. Seven rounds. That's one extra round you get to use your own status move, or bust out a lucky crit, or something like that. Oh, I get it! But then why not just Leer a lot then hit really hard? Because if you start doing that, my Snivy can just keep attacking your Oshawott while you Leer, not actually doing any damage. There's a point past which the diminishing returns make stat-altering moves a losing propostion; generally speaking, at low levels like these, that point is one.
Like so. Aw, I lost... Hey, don't take it so hard. I'm a champion. Or at least I was. Hmmm, not bad. I guess you aren't all talk. Like I said. Champion. Perhaps you'd like to have a look at your surroundings?
I'm sorry... C'mon, quit being like that. I remember how it was when I got Gustav. Totally the same way. I'll thank you to kindly shut your mouth. We've gone over this, you are not Manic. Oh? Then how do I- You've clearly studied his career, and you have some battling talent. That does not mean that you are him. Studied? Like, in school? Of course. Though we now know what his actions led to, his career before becoming champion has been closely studied over the years. Mmm-hmmm. And they know all about my relationship with my father, how I felt about Steven, that first trip with 'Mr. Briney'... All right, that is enough! You are not Manic, and I intend to prove it.
You think you can prove my identity one way or the other based on a fight with level 5 pokemon? Why not? Look, even one lucky critical hit will change the entire course of the fight. This doesn't prove anything. Then you concede?
Yeahno. Owned. Don't get cocky. That was closer than I like. I guess you have a point. Still. OWNED. Fair enough. Hmph. Like you said, this proves nothing. I'm going to go see Professor Juniper and get her input on all of this.
Um, I just need to make a quick stop first. I'll be there as soon as I can! Juniper, huh? I think I'll go too. I have some questions to ask. He already left... Not much on patience, huh? You s-sorta pushed his buttons. He's got issues with the whole Manic thing. Why? I've already said too much...he should be the one to tell you. I'll see you at Juniper's, Monique! Feh. So, let's have a look at you, new guy.
Rash, huh. Boosted special attack, reduced special defense. Okay. Look. They're both gone now. Yeah? Look me in the eyes. Are you really somebody else? I really, truly am. I don't know how I got to this place and time, much less in this body, but I really am Manic. Well, I dunno about your legend, but people don't seem to like it. You should go by Monique for a while. Fine, at least until we get this cleared up.
Oh, uh, hi. Hello, dear. So, just to make sure...mom? Yes? Right. So, I'm a transfer student...? Why, yes. And I just got sent some pokemon by Professor Juniper. Mmm-hmmm. And now I get to go on an adventure? Sure looks that way.
Kick ass. Isn't that the Bianca girl? You should follow her. Huh? Why? Juniper's house is the other way. ...so noted. Let's go have a look.
It's fine! Everything's fine. I'm...I'm fine. Let's just go see Juniper. Wait a minute. Bianca, come here. Let me see. It's nothing...I bumped into the door frame on the way in. I'm v-very clumsy. Right. It's all right, Bianca. Go see Professor Juniper. I'm going to reassure your father that you'll be okay. I'll be right along, okay? B-but...I... Go on, now. It'll be all right.
Hey. Big man. Hmph. New transfer kid, huh? You dress like a tramp. And you hit like a girl. And I should know. The hell you say to me? She didn't run into any door frame, did she? Damn kid's got a mouth on her. Acting like she's grown! She's grown enough not to have to deal with your crap. Ever think she might not be so anxious to leave if you treated her better? Don't tell me how to raise my daughter! You want a little? I'm not too proud to hit another man's daughter! Oh, I definitely do. Come at me. I've fought stronger men than you and walked away without so much as a scraped knee. The other guy? Didn't so much 'walk away'. Oh, you think you're tough, huh? I could say the same. Just remember this, big man: I'm going to be traveling with your daughter. I'm going to help keep her safe from things that would hurt her, and that includes you. If I ever think you're hurting her again? They'll be fishing your corpse out of the river. You can't talk to me like that! I just did. And now I'm walking away. If you follow me, I'll bust your balls like water balloons. Holy shit.
Yeah, let's go inside. It's a little breezy out here. Monique...are you okay? Never been better. Why wouldn't she be? She...she had a talk with my f-father... That gorilla? I have to echo the sentiment. Are you all right? Like I said, I'm fine. He won't be bothering us. You're joking. This is not the sort of thing I'd joke about, Cheren. He knows not to come following. You're...you're sure? Absolutely certain. You have nothing to worry about. Let's go inside.
Yeah, about that... You certainly are enthusiastic! Who won? Ma...er, Monique won, both times. Our battle was very close, though. I'll vouch for that. A lucky crit might've made it go the other way. Juniper, there's something I need to talk to you about.
It wasn't very difficult. I must admit, ah...Monique did have quite a bit to say about strategy. Okay, that much is true. Now, could I take you aside for just a moment, Juniper? Certainly! Before that, though, would you like to register a nickname for your pokemon? Not so fast. I already have a name! Oh? Then would you share it?
Victor. I think it suits me. Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold the phone. What's wrong? Okay, I know why I can understand Victor. What I don't get is why Juniper can, but the two of you can't. Oh, dear. Well, it's the Nuzlocke, you see. Anyone afflicted with it can understand all pokemon, whereas those without can only understand their own. You're afflicted with Nuzlocke?
Why...yes. Anyone over the age of sixteen in Unova is. WHAT?!
Did you truly not know? No one over the age of sixteen escapes the epidemic in Unova. Cheren and Bianca are among the first to receive the vaccine, but it has to be administered at a very young age. An...an entire region...afflicted with Nuzlocke... Yes, it's taken a horrible toll. Trade with other regions is nearly at a total standstill. Even our pokemon don't mingle; don't expect to find non-Unovan pokemon in this region, or Unovan pokemon in any other region. That's...that's abominable...how...? I would really rather not go into it right now...Monique, is it? It brings back some painful memories. Let's focus on the matter at hand today.
Wha? Uhm, of course. I'm very grateful. We haven't had a completed Pokedex in years and years. Of course...with an entire region of Nuzlocke sufferers, your capturing must be very haphazard. True, true...but we aren't without our resources. We've cobbled together a decent...why are you wearing that expression? Think about it, Professor. I'm not vaccinated, but here I am. The thought had occurred to me. Don't worry, I don't need you to complete it, just do the best you can to help Cheren and Bianca fill out their notes. At any rate, I'll meet you all on Route 1!
Professor, wait! You'll have to be quicker if you want to speak to Professor Juniper. She's always on the go. Wait. Route 1? Isn't that in Kanto? Oh, um...ever since we got cut off, we've used our own numbering system. That reminds me. Is what she said true? About the entire region being afflicted? I don't care to discuss this for even another moment. I'm leaving, and you'd be well-advised to follow. Touchy. In the extreme.
Oh! Um, hi, mom. You forgot these, dear. Here, I got one for your friends, too. Thanks for the help! Quite all right. Now, I'm off to clean your room. Hmmm mmm hmmm... o/~ Is she...is she okay? That's a very good question. I wish I knew the answer. For now, let's just see what Juniper is up to. I think there may be something wrong with her. Which, my mom, or Juniper? Both, maybe.
Well, we'll wind up fighting lots of wild pokemon, adventuring around the entire region, and seeing some pretty crazy stuff. You really think so? Trust me! I've done all of this before. But I swear, if Groudon and Kyogre show up again... Are you still harping on your ridiculous fantasy? It's not a fantasy, Cheren. I know you're still too young to understand this, but there are things in the world that defy logic and description. My situation is just one of those things. Okay, this makes absolutely no sense to me. What's going on? Very well then, 'Manic'. By all means, use your 'real' name with people. I'd adore the opportunity to see how they react. Both of you, shhh...it's Professor Juniper!
Now, here's how you catch pokemon. Reduce their HP with attacks, preferably to the red, throw a pokeball. Status moves help, particularly paralysis or sleep. Poison works too, but it puts an already-weak pokemon on a timer. Wha...? Sorry. I've done this a million times. Is anyone else totally confused by this? Are you...? No! I've said it before, and I'm saying it again. She's clearly studied, and that's admirable, but she's as new at this as the rest of us. She's just deluded, that's all! That's very, uh, interesting. I think I'll leave you three to it.
Uh, guys? Don't be a spoilsport. It'll be fun! Yes, with these five pokeballs, we certainly have more than enough. As limited as the population here is, don't you think we should stick to one per route? What? Sorry, can't hear you, too far away! You had better hurry if you don't want to get left behind.
Wow. Dicks.

And there you have it! Meet Victor, Manic's new starter.
Something about Manic sets Cheren off. Is it true? Is Manic/Monique not who she thinks she is?
Either way, it's about time somebody stands up to Bianca's dad!

Update #2: Meet the Feebles
Okay, Victor. It's time to go catch our first partner. Right! So, I beat the stuffing out of it, right? In a manner of speaking. You want to hurt it but not kill it. A dead partner does us no good. You're just not being imaginative enough. Come again? Picture it. You're facing off against a trainer. You're in trouble, things aren't going so well. Okay... So you're all, "Go, Patrat!" and all of a sudden you chuck a Patrat corpse at them. While they're freaking out, you run away! *pffftchch* Wow. Just...wow, Victor. XD Hey, lateral thinking is where it's at!
What's all this I hear about Patrat corpses? Huh? Nothing! We were just joking around. You think the decimation of my people is a joke?! Whoah, whoah. Take it easy, new blood. Take it easy?! Do you even know what the mortality rate is among my people when captured by trainers?! Er...no? 87%. Seven out of eight Patrats - or those who are lucky enough to make it to Watchog status - wind up dead! Sweet Arceus, that's insane! You're damn right it is! That's why I've founded the PLF, to help my people through their dark times. What the hell is a PLF? Patrat Liberation Front! Helping people like ME to survive being around people like YOU. Well, you're in luck. Manic here is a former champion. If she can't keep you alive, nobody can. Well...it's true, yeah. I don't mean to brag or anything. And hey, if you come with us, you can help Patrats on other routes too! Hmmm. Well, it does further the cause...all right, 'Manic'. You have a new recruit. For now! Now, before we move on, I want to train a bit. This'll be a lot more survivable for all involved if we can get you two leveled.
Much better! When a problem comes along? I must whip it! I'll be damned. Two whole levels and I'm not dead yet. And with that move, hopefully you won't be. Flinch hax for the win. Not bad, Manic. Not bad. Oh, uh, I should warn you...apparently, 'Manic' is a bad name around here. When we're around others, call me 'Monique', okay? So long as you promote the cause, your secret's safe with me. Also, free Potion! I need to stock up on these as soon as we reach town. Speaking of which...
It's fine, I know both of you have more than me. I have two pokemon now! Yes, I've also doubled my repertoire. Wait. Both of you have two pokemon now? Sure! Is...that a problem? Well, I mean...I have two pokemon because I can only catch one. More trainers! Hmmm. These ones seem a little... They are. Especially the guy. ...but what's your excuse? I don't want to crowd the ranks too early! I ran out of pokeballs. Say what now? I said I ran out of pokeballs. Happy now?
You could have some of...mine if you...wanted. It's okay, he'll get over it. I'd better follow him, though. See you in Accumula! Okay, the girl at least seems nice, but what's his problem? Not really sure. He has some kind of issue with Manic being Manic. Pssst! We're close to town. Careful with that. Right, right. 'Monique'. Huh. This thing is...ringing? Chirping? How the hell... Press the button on the side! I think it flips open! No, wait! There's a green button here. Maybe...
GAH! Er, is everything all right? What? Yeah! Sure. Everything's great. You seem startled. Damn thing needs instructions... Cheren, Bianca, I'd like the two of you to see what's happening in the park area in Accumula. And...Monique, right? I'd like you to meet me in front of the- Hi, Professor. Oh! Hello. Well. I guess I'll hang up, then.
Gonna show me around? Hey, I have a quick question. I don't see a Pokemart around here anywhere. We'll get to that. Now, come along, we've got a lot to do! It's just a pokemon center. What's the big-
Sweet Cresselia tied in a knot, what the hell?! Language, young lady! Whooooooah... This is a pokemon center?! This is several pokemon centers! Hee! You remind me of my first time in one of these. Juniper, this place is massive! A family could live here! A few families, even! Indeed! Now, I have a theory. What do you recognize? Well, that's the nurse - oh hey, they look different here - and that's the PC. Those just appear to be magazine racks. What are those two doing, though?
The hell you say! Ah, I finally surprised you, did I? This is different, then? Damn right it is! Usually, the Pokemart is an entirely different...huh. Problem? Come to think of it, why hasn't everyone done this? This is a great idea! I knew you'd like it! Anyway, that's about it for my little mini-tour, I've got to get back to Nuvema. Okay, well, thanks for the help. See you!
Cheren has made me aware of your 'condition'. My what now? Your little memory snafu. You mean she isn't really Ma- Hsss! -er, right. Monique? No, she's not. Fennel might be able to help you. She's a neurochemist, after all. ...huh. Interesting. Fair enough, I'll pay her a visit. She lives the next town over, so it shouldn't be too hard. Goodbye, 'Monique'!
Uh oh. That doesn't sound good. So if you aren't really...that, who are you? I really am that. But come on, we'd better hurry! Look, all you need to know is that she sincerely thinks she is, and she's in a rush. Let's move! What's the big deal? Remember where Cheren and Bianca are? Oh, hell. Come on!
WOW. And I thought Aqua and Magma looked stupid! Team fashion victim, more like! I didn't know the circus was in town. Hush, I'm trying to listen. Cheren? Whew, that's a relief! Where's Bianca? Trainer school. Now hush, I want to know what this is about!
...and, worst of all, they meet their ends under our command. It is our failure to account for their well-being that is responsible for their low quality of living, followed by their eventual demise. They are the 99%. They far outnumber us, but this will not be the case forever. Interesting. In a way, he has a point. Sure, but if he means what I think he means by 'liberation', I'm not interested. Shhh! I think he may be making a connection with some of us. You mean 'them', right? I said what I meant.
No. Interesting. A firm answer, free of doubt. And you are? My name is...Monique. I'm new to this region, but if what I've heard is true, you have a point. Then why do you say no? Because 'liberation' sounds like 'release your pokemon'. Hmmm. Very perceptive. And that sounds to me like giving up. Surrendering to the whims of fate. That's just not my style. And do your pokemon deserve to die because of your 'style'? Is your 'style' enough to save them? Always has been before. Make sure you remember that when you are kneeling over your fallen friends. You know, he has a point. A good one, actually.
Huh? Oh, hi. It was saying it wants to be free. Was it, then? Perhaps you should release it. I'm not releasing my pokemon on someone else's sayso. Then you would hold it against its will? First of all, Ingrid is a 'she', not an 'it'. Secondly, Ingrid. You tell me yourself. Do you want me to release you? What, seriously? Seriously. What happens if I say yes? Then I release you and you're free to go. You'll even be stronger than most of the local pokemon. Well, that settles it, then. All right, let me just get to the PC. No, you've got me all wrong! The fact that you would release me if I asked means I'm willing to stay with you for now.
Actually, I can. In fact, we just had a conversation. Were you not paying attention? I was. It feels obligated. Can you not hear that? Hey! Weeds-for-brains. How about you let me make my own decisions? Yeah, isn't that the definition of liberty, after all? For that matter, who are you?
N what? Just N. Okay. Well, I'm M, and this is C. Here's V, and here's I. We sound like a Roman numeral! Manic, what's a Roman numeral?
Damn it, Ingrid! Augh! Sorry! It just slipped out! That's what she said. This is idiotic. Will you just pummel this fool so we can continue? Wait. What? Why are we fighting? Your pokemon need a taste of what awaits them if they stay with you. Allow me!
You want to get to them, you have to get through me. Nicely done, Victor! Impressive!
Hey, listen. N. Yes, Manic? You may not want to use that name in public. People are starting to stare. That's Monique, and pokemon are my friends too. And you're right, the world does need to change. The current state of affairs is unacceptable. Then you agree with me. No! You have the problem right, but your answer is wrong. We have to do better than just releasing them all! Then we have nothing to talk about. Good day. That guy is seriously creepy. At least I don't have him as a trainer.
...and the partnership between me and my pokemon will play an integral role in my victory. Do be a friend and find Bianca in the school, won't you? Let her know where we're going. Er, right. Take care of yourself, Cheren. At least I don't have him as a trainer. Hey, he's not nearly as crazy as the other one. I dunno, there are a lot of flavors of crazy... It's true, and man, have I seen a lot of them. C'mon, let's go to the next town. What about the female? She'll catch up. Truth be told, a little schooling might do her some good.
Daaaaamn. Will you look at this! It's certainly bright. What does it mean? I think it's something about a game. A game? You sound lost. Well, it's not like either of us can read. You know, I think we should maybe work on changing that. Reading is pretty awesome. If you're teaching, I'm learning.
Route 2. Signs of progress! And more Patrats to recruit to the cause! *expectant look* Right! We'll work on safeguarding your people, Ingrid. Really? Well, yeah! I said we would. It's true, she did! And now it's two against one. Actually, I sorta thought you were just making it up. If a man's word has no value, the man himself has no value. Remember that.
Wha...mom? Yes, dear. You ran off so fast that I forgot to give you something important. Oh. Well, I guess we can backtrack a little. That won't be necessary. Really? So, you'll have it sent to- *click* Huh. She hung up...
GAH! Funky Shaymin, mom, how the hell?! I'm so glad to see you're all right! No, seriously. Do you have a pokemon or what? Why, no. Then how did you get through the tall grass?! Oh, I just hurried from one patch to the next before any wild pokemon could catch me. I...buh...that doesn't...augh... Oh, come on. I'm sure she's joking. Plus, I had to kick aside a few Patrats. No big deal! Right, then. Bite attack in three, two, one...
Ah-ha-ha! Great, mom! Um, aren't you busy? Whatever you're going to do, make it quick, I can't hold her back for long! Let's see how you like it, lady! Mom, I think you left the stove on fire so you could dry your hair and your dog ate your homework!
Okay! Okay, she's gone. Let's just keep going. Don't ever do that again, snake boy. Do you have any idea what would happen if you attacked a human? If there were any justice, the same thing that would happen if a human attacked a pokemon! Ingrid. I promise, next time I go home, I'll tell her I don't want her doing that anymore. For now, don't we have a cause to tend to? Hmph. Fine. I swear, though, if I ever see you kicking a Patrat... Never gonna happen, promise.
Jeez! She's a fighter! I could use a potion here! Already on it! Aye, I suppose ye caught me, ye wee buggers. Let's see here. The readout says...Madison, huh? That I be! I suppose yuir wantin' help with yuir fightin', eh? Aye. I mean yes! Suits me. She hits like a Gigalith! A what? Dinna trouble yerself about it, lass. Will there be fightin'? Lots of it. Daaaaanger? More than I expected, that's for sure. HAH! Sounds like a blast! Ya got yerself a new partner!

And, as is so often the case early in a Nuzlocke, our cast of characters expands.
Meet Ingrid, leader of the PLF. Madison, scrappy Lillipup (NOT THAT SCRAPPY), Ghetsis, and N!
Turns out Fennel might be the answer to all of this!

Now I'm just picturing Manic fighting Ghetsis and, as the battle starts to turn against them, just straight-up tosses a Patrat corpse at Ghetsis, and Victor just collapses with laughter.

Update #3: EPIC RAP BATTLES OF HISTORY! Manic vs. Chili! BEGIN!
Okay, everyone. Let's get up to Striaton, then it's time to start training. We've been training. Or haven't you noticed? Speak for yuirself, I'm in th' mood for a fracas! It's true, we have. But...haven't you noticed how the levels of the wild pokemon have spiked suddenly? She's right. We had no level advantage when we caught Madison. And what about my people, hmmm? If we're going to help them, we need to be strong enough to do so. Let's plow through, come back, and work on getting strong enough to make a difference. Fine, fine. Let's just get on with it.
(Training montage!)
An attack that relies on me getting pummeled. No thanks. I'm nae complainin' about this attack, though! Rrrrrr! Looks like you get the best deal of the three, Madison. Aye, lookit what th' poor fella gets! Stalling doesn't seem like the right tactic for me... Eugh, and it's not. Let's just keep going, I'm sure you'll get better moves later.
Uh, Bianca, now isn't really the right time. Please? I think he's watching...! What? Who is? Are you okay? It's a gym leader...don't look, don't look! He's the one with the green hair. If we're not supposed to look, what does his hair color matter? Girl talk. Just let us do our thing. Urgh, females. I see. And you want to impress him with a battle. So you want to face me? I...I sure do! And don't you go easy on me, either! Uh, well, if you're sure...
When he sees my battling skills, he'll fall for me for sure! Er...right, sure. Let's do this, team! It's aboot time! Let's bash some heads in! Madison? I'm pretty sure you'd terrify her into running away. Ingrid, Victor, can you take this?
For the honor of the PLF! I almost feel guilty. Almost.
He saw me battle, I know he did! I sure hope so, he was standing right there. Now we have something in common, something to talk about! You...don't really get out much, do you? See you, Maaaaauuuuuhh...Monique! I like 'er! You do?? Aye! Losin' dinna bother her in th' least! Girl's got spirit! She has a point. Anyway, let's head into town.
Wait. I thought the trainer's school was back in Accumula. Most every town has one, these days. New in the area, are you? Pretty new, yeah. Lots of different stuff around here. I can only imagine. Fifty years of isolation has caused us to develop in very different ways. Fifty years...wow. If you ever hit Nacrene, you should do some research on it. Fascinating stuff. You know, I think I will. In the meantime, let's see if that gym leader is in the training school. Which one? This city's. Right. Which one? Hubbawha? Heh heh...you'll see.
Oh, hey, there's Cheren in the back. Maybe he's seen the guy. Which one? Now, don't you start. Sss sss sss... XD
Okay, what kind of jerkass move is that? What are you talking about? What if I took you seriously? I could wind up wasting my TMs! I am serious. Look, it wasn't even funny the first time. Let it go, okay? Fine, fine, whatever. Crazy girl.
Yeah, but, uh...you might wanna bone up on your studies a bit more. Hmmm? Why? You left off 'poison also does damage while walking'. What? No it doesn't. Er, I'm pretty sure it does. You know, you watch the readout on the pokeball, watch the HP decrease? Every...what was it, fifteen steps or so? I don't know what sort of game you're trying to pull, but poison only does damage in combat. I'd prove it, but I don't have any poisoned pokemon right now. Look, Cheren. I know you don't like me much, but this is for your own good, okay? Watch out for poison. Strange. You seem sincere. You really believe this, don't you? Well, yeah! It's true. Keep Antidotes on hand at all times just in case. I'll tell you what. You beat me in combat, and I'll consider your advice. Well, you asked for it. Literally.
You won't defeat me so easily this time, I think. I sure hope not. Last time was actually a little embarrassing.
YEEEEEOW! Damn Assist! Strategy is what wins battles. You should know that better than anyone. You have a point. Here's one of my favorites. Victor, switch out! Madison, you're up! Don't have to tell me twice! Och, it's a wee kitteh! Heeeeere, kitteh kitteh kitteh...
Now lay down, ye bugger! Very well then. I concede defeat. Here, a prize for your efforts.
Cheren, something confuses me here. Oh? And what is that? I've got three pokemon on my team: Victor, Ingrid, Madison. Yes, I can see that. And I'm bound by the one-per-route rule. You're not. So...why do you only have two? One of my catches was very weak, so I released it. Huh...right. Okay. Well, see you around.
Oh, hey, it's the green-haired guy. Cilan is my name. Like cilantro? Very good! Very few people get the reference. Do you cook? Not very well. I don't poison anyone, but I'm strictly an amateur. Still, not everyone knows what the various herbs are. At any rate, may I see your starter? Hey, what's up?
That means you'll be facing Chili. Come again? I thought you were the gym leader. I am. So is Chili. So is Cress. Wait, three gym leaders?! This does not sound like a good idea! Yes, but don't look so alarmed! You'll only face one of us. In this case, Chili. I...see. And if I had chosen Oshawott, I'd be facing... Me, yes. Wow, that's fair. If you can't defeat a type disadvantage, you probably shouldn't be facing the Unovan league. Tell you what, why not go check out the Dreamyard? Between you and me, Chili is a hothead, I'd like to see him taken down a peg or two. Dreamyard, huh? Sounds good to me. I'll see you later.
Why does everyone keep saying that? Yes, and the sky is blue. Dinnae take it so hard, lad. Everybody's got their weak spots! 'Cept me, o' course. Uh, Madison? If we find any Fighting types, I vote we let Victor handle it. Bollocks! I'm nae afraid of some fightin'! Er, Madison, she's got a very good point. Arright, I know when I'm beat. Don't worry, girls. I've got your backs.
Here, take this! Whathefu...? Bonjour, mon ami. Je suis Frieda. No, thanks. Lactose intolerant. Quel embetant! Vous n'etes pas des francophones, c'est d'accord. I am Frieda. Nice to meet you. I'm Ingrid, the wiseass is Victor, the blowhard is Madison. Oi! What'd ye say, then? *snicker* Easy, easy. And I'm Monique. I guess I'm your new trainer, huh? Alors, I hope so. This one, he has no interest in the battling! Stick with me, lassie. Th' lady's promised lots of fightin', an' she delivers! C'est vrai? Enfin, I will come with you! Viva le resistance! ...yeah! Okay. Whatever you just said. Let's go face the gym trainers, see how well we're doing, huh?
Oh, uh, thanks? Don't mention it. We've got a string of attendants at every gym there is. And you all give out Fresh Water? Of course! Can't have you overheating. Brrr...good point. Ye all right? Bad history with Overheat. Let's just go.
Okay, how did that work? Looks like all you have to do is step on the element that beats the one on the curtain. Hey, not bad! Mais oui! La feu, it is extinguished by the water! Looks like there's a trainer before the next one. Let's have a look.
Oi! Dobber! Yer dad's crosseyed an' yer mum's a bloke's leg! Mon dieu! She certainly has a way with words! Uh, anybody notice a little problem here? You mean aside from the fact that she's taunting him into a fight? They're the same level. So? In general, gym trainers are several levels below the leaders' levels. That means we aren't ready, or even particularly close! More trainin', then? Good, I'm done wif this knob. Sheesh...yeah, let's work off some of that energy.
(More training, yaaaaay! *kermit flail*)
Okay, team. This looks pretty solid. Everybody ready for your first gym battle? Nope! But I'm officially bored. Let's do this. Yeah, we can only be so ready. Dinnae worry yer heid, lass! We can handle this numpty! I am ready to, how you say, bitch the smack up! Pffft...yeah, okay, close enough.
Ah, you've returned! And you've beaten all the gym trainers. Yeah, it wasn't so hard. And I see you have a new friend! Bonjour! Ah, bonjour! Comment ca-va? *gasp* Ca-va bien, ca-va tres bien! Vous etes Parisien? Alors, non, mais j'ai etudie au Paris! Uh...what? Speak English, ye tubes! Ah, terribly sorry. It's been some time since I could practice my French...but you're not here for that. You want a badge. Want, need, same thing in the end.
Easily the most bombastic, anyway. Chili: Cress! Drop a beat for me! ...the fuck?
Chili: Now I see you little lady, comin' in all half-dressed And I see you wanna battle, but you're facin' the best! I ain't even put out, you can see I'm on fire! Talkin' like you're gonna win? We can see you're a liar! Check your cute little starter, without real arms and legs I can hardly wait until it whines and whimpers and begs Got a rat and a puppy and monkey, it's true, Your pokemon team looks like a damn petting zoo! Now I see you're all rattled and on the verge of cryin' So withdraw your little challenge, and there won't be no dyin'. Cress: That's some real conversation for your ass. Cilan: Damn, son. You aren't even playin'.
Oh, shit. I KNOW you did not challenge me to a rap battle. It's on, bitches.
It ain't even hard to battle with no arms and no legs, When you bring your sad excuse out, I'll get rid of the dregs. I'm rollin' strong with Madison, Ingrid's got my back Gonna give you Three Stooges your own heart attack. Your rap's got no beat, your words been extinguished, For a five star restaurant, you ain't even distinguished! You got your hair dyed in colors, they're called primary, fool! You should go on back and learn that shit in primary school!
Cress: Ohhhh, snap! Looks like the little guy's got your ass! Cilan: Damn, that's gotta be embarrassing! Chili: Aw hell no! Time for my ace!
Ain't that cute! You try to battle, but you're actin' the fool Let's see you handle when my monkey's makin' you lose your cool. Gonna burn that vacant look all up off your face Better get back in the kitchen, bitch, and retake your place! My Pansear knows Incinerate, and it's gonna eliminate Your chances of escaping taking me on a dinner date! Don't feel bad! The second you got here, your odds headed south. Now bring the battle! I wanna see how good you are with your mouth.
Madame, I do not know the rap battle! I cannot do this! It's all right, Frieda. He's right in one respect. Lass, yuir nae gonna... No way. Look at that expression. She's got a plan. You fight your way, Frieda...it's time for me to fight mine.
You got your crazy lazy hazy way of bringing the beat, Your style's sloppy, and that's why you wind up facing defeat! A date with me? Bitch please! You knew your chances were gone. But you don't mind! Look at your nappy do. Flame on! You're all dressed up like a waiter, offer service with a smile, How 'bout this? Why not go and take a bath for a while! You got the funk, but you're a punk, act like you got you a six-pack But underneath that pretty skirt, you're hung like a Tic-Tac So admit it! You won't hit it. You're just feeling unnerved. Now sit your waiter ass down. 'Cause you just got served.
Cress: Daaaaaaaamn! Cilan: Oh, SHIT! Chili: FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU!
Chili: I don't...I've never...how... Aw, don't worry too much about it. I have four pokemon, you have two, and mine are trained. Besides, I turned your type advantage strategy on you. Cress: Cilan, you know what this means. We have to regroup. If she sees us in a moment of weakness... Cilan: Get the other trainers. Let them know that we need another Pansear and Lillipup, stat! What's everybody all freaked out about? People beat gym challenges all the time.
Cress: You're new to the area, aren't you? I don't like this. These guys are acting like they're at war. Cilan: Your Patrat is perceptive. It takes all three of us to hold Lenora off. With Chili temporarily disabled, we've got to scramble to train replacements! Okay, so who's Lenora? Cress: Nacrene City gym leader. Beast of a woman. Normal type, and all that comes with it. N-normal type, huh? Yuir shakin' like a leaf, lass! S-sorry. Bad experience with Normal gyms, too. Dana... Who's that? Nobody for you to worry about. So, wait. If you're both gym leaders, why are you at odds? Cress: Wow, you are new. Look, I'd love to explain this now, but there's just no time. Could you, uh... Er, right. Sorry. I'll leave you to it. Chili: B-before you go...
Chili: Take this...you'll need it.
Oh, uh, hey there. It's a fantastic new advention! It's the bee's knees! A new what? It'll revolutionate your travel abilities! Ow...your words...like ten thousand needles in my ears... Oh, you're just being overdramatatious. Come with me, let me demonstrize!

"Your dad's crosseyed and your mum's a bloke's leg". Oh, Madison.
So yeah! Epic Rap/Pokemon Battle of History! Odd, aren't gym battles usually just...battles?
Also, welcome Frieda to the team! Some much-needed coverage has arrived.

[/div][/quote] The rap battle's definitely fun (and I'm curious to know if you had a particular beat in mind when writing this), but the formatting appears to have turned against you here.

What's strange is that it was fine when I proofread it immediately after posting.
I am increasingly convinced that this forum has very real technical issues.

Update #4: Identity Crisis
Are you sure we should be following her? She does seem pretty flaky. Yeah, but Juniper said she might be able to help me figure out what's happened to me. Aye, sure'n she's a nutter, but mebbe she can help! Bien sur, where you go, I will also go. We're not getting anywhere just standing here. I'm going in.
Right where I left them! Fancy that! Uh...sure! Yeah. Fancy that. Do I even need to say it? No, and right now, I wish you wouldn't.
Of course, not purely gratis! There's something I'd like you to do for me in return! Cut, huh? Good to know some things haven't changed, even if I wish they would. What do you want in return? Actually, Juniper told me about your little condition; you'll be helping me help you! To help me. Helping you! Och, ah'm gettin' dizzy! Moi aussi, this woman, she speaks very poor the English! Uh, okay, sure. Whatever you just said, if it'll help me get a handle on all this, I'm in. What's up? I have big plans for this move...
There's some in the Dreamyard (big shock), but none of my Pokemon can learn Cut! You're...missing a Pokemon that knows Cut? Uh huh! And I'm busy, busy, busy! Be a dear and go get me some, mmm? I guess it's fair. Got any letters or parts you want delivered while I'm at it? Hmmm? No, why? Nevermind, obscure reference.
(Later, at the Dreamyard...)
Bianca? When did you get here? Oh, um...I heard somebody beat the gym, and I thought it might be you, so I sort of...followed you out of Fennel's place. Fortunately, that's not creepy at all... Se calmer. She idolizes Manic, n'est-ce pas? What? No, that's ridiculous. Also, please, Monique while there are people around. Anyway, I do hear something. Let's check it out. All right!
It's...adorable! Well, I already got my pokemon for this route, so it's yours if you want it. W-what? Really? Okay, Bianca, focus... Bring out a pokemon, strong but not too strong. Hit it, but don't kill it... Grunt #1: Prepare for trouble! Grunt #2: What? Why would you even do that?!
Hey, Plasmorons! You're gonna scare it! Grunt #1: If it won't give us what we want, it should be scared! I don't like this. These guys don't give a twist about pokemon no matter what they say! Y-you can't just hurt it to make it give you what you want! Grunt #2: Why not? That's what you were going to do, wasn't it? Are you upset because our methods are a bit more effective? I...but... Ouch. That's harsh, but...uh...not entirely inaccurate.
Grunt #2: Like the kind who don't consider the implications of their actions. Oh, don't worry, I have. Vraiment? Have ye now, lassie? An' what'd ye reckon? We weaken pokemon that we want to catch to show that we're worthy of training them and have something to teach. That's different from abuse. What they're talking about is just plain extortion. Grunt #1: ...huh. I never really thought of it like that. Grunt #2: Don't let her play head games with you! It's not different at all, no matter what they tell themselves. If we want to free pokemon at large, some sacrifices have to be made. Now, c'mere, you! *smack!* Hey! What the fuck?! I'm gonna chew his face off!
Grunt #2: Whatever it takes! No. Hell no. Grunt #1: What's your problem? If you think I'm just going to stand by and let you abuse an innocent pokemon like a couple of playground bullies gathered around a smaller child, you've got another thing coming! Now send out your pokemon, I'm going to show idiots what a real partnership looks like!
(so many beatings)
Grunt #2: You should've known better. The one on the left is no normal girl, that much is for sure. Grunt #1: Yeah, yeah. Talk is cheap. Let's see if you do any better! Take 'em down! Yeah, take me down, smart guy. Can I take this one? I said I'd chew his face off and I meant it! C'mon, Ingrid. You got the last one. *sigh* Fine, fine. You know I spoil you, snakebutt.
(an approximately equal level of beatings)
Getting fired, looks like. Oh my...who...what is that? 'E looks like his heid exploded! The lack of fashion sense...the pain! A wild Ghetsis appeared! He's the head of this team, and he looks pissed off. Grunt #2: Oh, uhm, sir, we were just getting some Dream Mist... Grunt #1: Y-yeah, and it was going really well! Until one young girl stopped you idiots from ruining everything. Grunt #2: Yeah, until...wait, what? Maybe this Ghetsis guy isn't so bad?
Fella looks right fer a mad hemo! Hooray! You teach these two! Uh, Bianca? This guy also supports all trainers releasing all pokemon. He WOT?! Mais non! This would be disastrous! He has a good handle on a real problem, but his answer is way wrong. He's smart, but not someone to emulate. Oh, um...well, if you say so! And off they go! And...off Ghetsis goes? He vanished! Hey, what's that?
The experiments can just wait, I want to see the dream mist! Oh, uhm, hello. We don't really have any... There were some Team Plasma goons, and they started kicking the...Munna, was it?...and we had to stomp them. And then their scary boss showed up, and started appearing all over the place, and chewed them out - it was wild! Hmmm. Wild enough that it doesn't look like they want to relive the memories. They left.
Wait, there's more? Certainly! Part of the reason I wanted this stuff was to help you! Oh! Okay then. You think this can help me with my issue, huh? I'd say there's an 82% chance, give or take a couple of percentage points. Those are pretty good odds! We should definitely pay her a visit. I admit, I'm curious now, too. Dream Mist, huh...
(later, at the Bat-Cave Fennel's house...)
(Editor's note: thank GOD. That garish hot pink color is an eyesore!) Now, I've done some research, and I think I've figured out what happened to you. Really! I'm anxious to hear.
Ahem! Right. As you may have noticed, Dream Mist is a psychoacting substance. A wot? Psychoactive. It means 'affects the mind'. And yeah, I've noticed, go on. And Juniper tells me that you're new to the region. She's greener than I am, even! Well, it's entirely possible that you ran afoul of a Munna or Musharna - probably the latter - without knowing what it was. Whoah, whoah, wait. You're suggesting that this is all- A Dream Mist inspired hallucination, yes. Of course, your brain naturally seeks out a defensible position. Perhaps the identity of a former champion, who knows how to deal with pokemon? ...you're saying...I'm crazy? What? No, no! No, dear! Not at all. Just high. What? I don't do drugs! Well, obviously not deliberately! After all, you're obviously an intelligent and well-read young girl. Don't fret! It'll wear off in a few days. For now, just push on with the knowledge that you will get better!
Huh? Oh...thanks... Now, don't take it so hard, dear. It's for the best that you aren't really Manic! Hey, it's okay. Even if you aren't Manic, you're still a great trainer! Huh? She's right! You're emulating a Champion-level trainer. The results speak for themselves! Your pokemon are right! For now, just roll with it! I guess? Okay. Let's go on to Nacrene. If nothing else, I want to find out why those three were terrified of the gym leader, and what the hell is up with my reputation.
Aw, that's adorable. It's a pre-school! Come to think of it, I could use a nap. Aye, I'm plum tuckered! Oui, je vais dormir... Okay. You four take a nap, I'm going to- Sit up and have a chat with me. ...do that.
What's on your mind, Ingrid? We're on Route 3. Yes. Yes we are. This is really the last route where you find wild Patrat. Ohhhh, I get it. Yeah. ...are you needing to be released? Not yet. I just...I want you to know that it's been an honor. Maybe I can even help in the Nacrene gym battle, it's right next to Route 3. An honor? To fight alongside a doped-up facsimile of a hated former champion? Hey, hey. NO. An honor to fight alongside someone who is appropriately appalled at the fate of my people. I don't care if you're Manic or not (no offense), your reaction shows what kind of person you are. But what if that's just this Manic person speaking through me? So what if it is? You want to do the right thing. For me, that's good enough. I...guess you're right. Thanks, Ingrid. Don't look so glum. Even if you are hallucinating, I bet at least some of that character is you.
All right, team. Everyone well-rested? I'm ready for a fight! Now yuir speakin' mah language! Let's ruckus! Ahhhh, much better. Je l'aime. Great. Now, let's move on to Nacrene and-
Cheren, wait. Before we fight, I need to tell you something. *sigh* What is it now? Fennel - Juniper's scientist friend - thinks I might have run across a wild Musharna before you even met me. Oh...oh, I see. That would explain... Yeah, it would, wouldn't it? Well then. I'm very sorry to hear that. Yeah, me too...she says it should wear off in a few days. I will try to be tolerant until then. Now that I understand you aren't under full control of your faculties, I forgive your mistakes. So arrogant. E's a roight arse bandit, he is! Your pokemon still seem interested in fighting. Shall we? Yeah! Yeah, okay.
Don't lose confidence. Whatever else Manic may have been, he was still a skilled trainer. If you know what he knows, you're still very dangerous. I'll keep it in mind. Manic is a tool to be used!
Well, yeah. Hit the opponent until they fall. Seems straightforward. Don't worry. Over time, you'll develop your own style. Does he make anyone else uneasy? I think I liked him better when he was yelling at you. What if that is my own style? It's all right, I know you're still confused. It'll come with time. Alors, do you hear that? Grunt #1: Excuse us! Pardon us! Coming through! Beep beep! Grunt #2: Helloitslovelytoseeyouagainbutwereallymustbegoinggoodbye!
They what?! They were...huff...they were running away with...pant...this girl's pokemon...and...whew... Take it easy, Bianca. Deep breaths, tell us what happened. I...okay. Whew. They took this girl's pokemon, talking nonsense about liberation, and ran! I'm afraid they'll hurt it after what we saw in the Dreamyard! Heh. Heh heh. What is wrong with this guy?! This isn't funny, Cheren! What? No, of course not...I was laughing because they've made a horrible mistake. Okay, sure, but which mistake are you talking about? If they wanted to escape, they should've turned south here. To the west is a cave with no way through. They've cornered themselves.
Huh. You finally used my...er, I mean, not really my name, but... It's all right. I can endure this for a few days. Besides, we have more important matters to deal with. Walk with me.
So, I don't really understand why you hate that name. Bianca told me you had issues with it, but didn't say any more. She did, did she? Well, I suppose I might as well tell you. Okay, this I've gotta hear. Go on. When I was a child, my grandfather used to read to me from the books about Manic's exploits. Of course, I enjoyed all of the sub-stories, too, but the real Manic was the one I liked the most. Sub-stories? More than one...? Sure. Apparently, every ten years or so, someone takes the Manic name. Pretty much invariably, they affect the world in some major way. Like the one in Sinnoh with the wasting disease twenty years ago, or the one forty years ago who defeated Gary Oak. Och, yuir a right fighter, lass! Okay, but none of that explains- I'm getting to that. The original Manic, the one from Hoenn, was my hero. And then...I grew up. I learned about what he did, how he vanished, all the things he's responsible for. He's a fraud. A worthless slimeball who betrayed everyone who ever believed in him. Can it be true...? Hey now! That doesn't seem like you, though. You've gained his skill, but kept your personality. The best of both worlds, in a way. Do you understand? ...somehow, the answer is both 'yes' and 'not at all'.
Right. Let's focus on what we're doing now. That other stuff can wait. Precisely.
Grunt #1: Now, prepare for tro- Grunt #2: NO. Grunt #1: Aw, c'mon! Just once! Grunt #2: I said no! We aren't gangsters, we're liberators! Grunt #1: Can't we be both?
Grunt #1: No, no. Say it with me now. Li-be-ra-ting. Yeah, like Kanto tried to 'liberate' Hoenn back in 1995. Ken I bash 'em now? Listen, this is very simple math. Four times zero is still zero. Give up now, and we may go easy on you. Nice line! C'mon! Ye promised me some brouhahas! Grunt #2: We're certainly not returning them to your care without a fight! Madison? Yeh? Sic 'em. HAH!
(I didn't know a man contained that much blood)
Um...um, excuse me... Huh? I saw what you did...you were very brave... Oh. Well, uh, thank you. I'm going to go return the pokemon. Catch up. Sure, later, Cheren. Those men...they're going to be back, I just know it. You're all very strong...can I come with you? Sure, I guess. I mean, I haven't had a catch for the cave yet. Oh...I don't know what that means, but okay...I'm Jonas... Jonas, this is Victor, Ingrid, Madison, and Frieda. Thank Mew, another guy on the team. Hi there. Aye, a bonnie lad! Bonjour, mon ami. Oh, um...n-nice to meet you all. *blush* And you? ... ...miss? ...call me Monique for now. Madame, another of the wild pokemon appears! It's fine, looks like a Rock type. Use Water Gun.
Whoah. Wait. What's all this?! Ugh, it has Sturdy. I hate that. Yeah, but that just protects against OHKO moves! Oh, right. She wouldn't know. Around Unova, it also means that a pokemon with full health can't be knocked out in one hit. Yikes. That's a bit of a game-changer. Oh dear...is everything okay? Sure, sure. Just means I have to change my strategy, is all. Now, let's get back outside, we still have a catch from Route 3 waiting!
Hmph. I certainly hope you don't expect me to fight for you. Rrrrr...I dinnae like yuir attitude, lad! I assure you, if I begin to care, you'll be the first to know. Wow. What crawled up your butt and died? You could, perhaps, be the bit nicer? Look, this is very simple. I have no particular desire to die. That's great, I have no particular desire to kill you. If I don't fight, I won't die. Therefore, I won't fight. I know how you feel, but Manic can- Monique. Er, right. Monique can keep you alive. She's kept me alive! Making the addition of a second dead weight all the more lethal. No, thank you. Fine, then. When we get to Nacrene, I'll box you. For now, let's go catch up with Cheren.
Oh, I wish you'd had those when you found me... Yeah, sorry about that. Don't worry, we'll get healed up before we move on. M-Monique...Cheren told me about what happened. I'm sorry you're not well. It's okay, I'll apparently shake it off. But...for what it's worth...I think you rule! Come again? You stood up to my dad, you helped this girl get her pokemon back; whether you're that person or not, I think you're pretty amazing! Well, thanks! Look, I'd better catch up with Cheren, who knows how far he is by now. Okay, I should take this little girl back to Striaton. See you! She seems nice...

Whether or not the whole Manic thing is a hallucination caused by dream mist, there's no doubting she won't stand for pokemon abuse!
Someone needs some cheering up. Fortunately, there's no shortage of support close by. Even Cheren is willing to be tolerant in the short-term!
A stolen pokemon is rescued and returned, and we're on our way to Nacrene!

That Plasma grunt who keeps trying to do the Rocket motto makes me wonder if the anime actually happened in your continuity. More likely to me is the possibility that someone in-universe made a TV show featuring Jessie and James and this Plasmoron decided emulating them was a good idea, but there's just enough reasonable doubt there to make me wonder.

#5: Patient Zero
Wait. You're serious? Wild double battles? Certainly. Often, wild pokemon will team up to have a better chance at food and living space. I guess that makes sense. Frieda and I would make a great team. Oui, I could extinguish the fire, and you could handle the electricity! Your pokemon seem to have picked up on the idea quickly enough. Ah dinnae think I could share with any'a this lot! Same goes for me. My people do best among their own kind. Makes sense. If you're competing for the same resources, it won't usually go so well without a very strong bond. Um...if it isn't too much trouble...could I be healed now...? Hea-...right! Forgot! Sorry about that! It's no problem, I can wait...
(one trip to the school later)
Well, that's a welcome surprise! Aye, I feel ready for a fracas! Not bad! I guess you take honors as first to evolve in our little crew. C'est magnifique! You are the picture of strength! Anybody else feel a little safer? N-not precisely... It's okay. Madison won't bite. As long as you're on our team, anyway. Hey, look, Nacrene is up ahead! That didn't take long.
You might need these against the gym leader. Wait. Chesto berries? I spent a little time gathering information. Turns out she has a Watchog with Hypnosis. Gathering inf...Cheren, you just got here ten minutes ago! What's your point? Gotta admit, he works fast!
You sure are being helpful all of a sudden. Naturally. After all, you need to defeat Lenora. That sounds ominous... Jonas is right, that does sound ominous. What gives? There's apparently some bad blood between this gym and Striaton's. By beating Chili, you upset a delicate balance. It's all right, you couldn't have known, but now you need to set things right. I heard something about that...I see what you mean. Weaken them equally, huh? Exactly. For now, I must be going. I've always wanted to visit the Nacrene City library. These books really fascinate humans, huh? Seriously, I've got to teach you to read. Well...once we get a little training in.
Oh dear...I hope I don't hurt anyone with this... Ugh...*sigh* That's th' bloody point, lad! Carve 'em up! Oh, no no no! I'll apply just enough force to get the job done. There is elegance in precision, mon cher. She has a point. Hitting with just the right amount of strength can be pretty solid too. Don't look at me, I'm in favor of overwhelming force on our side. Ohhhh...what to do...? Looks like it's two versus two, Jonas. You'll have to make up your own mind. C'mon, let's see how Cheren's coming.
...yes. Really? The more I learn, the more I'm convinced that something strange has happened. I want to know what I can't know. That is not what I said. He's got you there. He said he wants to see, not to know.
Who's talking about the future? I was. What were you talking about? The past. I need to understand where I've been to know where I'm going. A man who always looks over his shoulder will trip over stones! And a man who never looks behind him will fail to understand the significance of his destination! We're about to fight, aren't we? They both look very upset...a battle seems inevitable...!
Your Snivy...it's growing more powerful. I learned the trick from all your hot air. Heh, nice. And yours, too. Hey, wait a second! They're both wrong. You have to learn from your past but focus on your future. I...I think he might be right... Hmmm. Okay, fair enough. Guess I needed the wake-up call.
Look, that's because there isn't an equation like that. What do you mean? Of course there is. There's an equation for everything. No, there really isn't. Look, I get what you're trying to do. Really, I do! But - okay, let's use equations. You're missing a key variable. Now you're speaking my language. What variable? People! People have free will, thoughts and feelings and hopes and dreams of their own. You can't possibly account for it because it's millions of different values all at once. Hmmm. The human variable, you say. I see your point. Kin ah bite 'im now? And interrupt his learning? Non, I say! I'm glad to see we could come to an understanding. The equation remains unsolvable as long as the human element remains a variable.
Guh...wha...what the hell just happened?! So close! Madame, I do not know English so well, but... I'm beginning to think I don't either! How did he get from 'unsolvable equation' to 'remove free will'?! Isn't it obvious? Math. B-but he can't remove free will from people... Ah dinnae ken what yer sayin', lad! Haven't you noticed how disconnected he seems? He views the world as a series of math equations. Actually, that makes a lot of sense. In a situation with a lot of intellectual stimulation but little to no social interaction, a young man will wind up using the only means he knows to relate to the world. Making him both powerful and dangerous. Let's go after him!
Hey, have you seen a guy with green- Here, use this on Lenore! And hurry! Whoah, whoah, what the hell is this? Did we not discuss this before? TM Rock Smash? You have a TM version around here?! Well, yeah. I've seen it used on far too many of my people, let me tell you. Why, what's up? Left is right and up is down...and where I'm from, Rock Smash is an HM! Eugh, roight hackit tha' is! ...you sound appropriately disgusted, so let's call it there. Well, hell. Since we're here...
Wow. Our first direct-to-box catch! She appears to be the water type... Yeah, but don't sweat it. Quoi? C'mon, I already have a water type! She's boxed for life. Oui, oui! I will be equal to your hopes! That was very nice of you... Hey, I said it and I meant it. Frieda's just getting started, watch and see! Now, let's keep training, Lenora is...brrr.
Whoah...check me out! Wow, noticeably more impressive! I hope I evolve someday... Mon dieu, quel fort! Welcome aboard th' evolution train, laddie! You do realize that I plan to evolve all of you, right? Ahem. All of us? All of you. Including you, Ingrid. But now...my curiosity is getting the better of me.
Oh! Well...thank you. Does everyone who comes in get this sort of treatment? Not at all, not at all! We've simply heard of a girl with several pokemon who taught those dirty Striations...heh heh...a lesson in humility! That's you, right? Uh, yeah, something like that. Then you deserve at least my full attention! Come, come, there's much to show you!
Dragonite. Come again? That's a Dragonite skeleton. Notice the shape of the skull? How would you know? You've seen one? Sure, when I went traveling. Amazing! At your age? Where did you go? Yuir mask's slippin', lass! Think fast! Oh, what I mean to say is, I've seen lots of TV shows about them! Heh! I'm sure you have, my dear, but this is the real deal! G-good save...
Right, plot device. Moving on...
Hope you don't think that means I'll take it easy on her. You'd better not! You'll make her very upset if you do. And yourself even moreso! She's that tough? She once watched two girls, one cup and then ate chocolate ice cream. ...wow. Okay, yeah. That's pretty tough. I don't get it. Nor I... And if you're lucky, you never will.
Thank you very much. I'll be going now. Why'd ye thank the bloke? Manners. He just gave me an item, what he thought was useful advice, and a lead. He doesn't deserve a thank-you for three gifts? She has the good point. Although, now that we're here, I do want to sit down and do a little research. Lenora can wait. Oh? W-what are we researching? Well, we're researching the history of Manic. Delightful! That should be under biographies. Let's just have a look... Wait, you can read? Why...why, yes! Books are one of my great joys.
Okay, here's one. Let's just have a look. "The origins of Manic lie in the Hoenn region, where he destroyed the reputation and reign of the corrupt Wallace, the former champion. In so doing, he also eliminated the threat of Groudon and Kyogre by bringing Rayquaza to bear upon them." Yuir a bloody hero, lass! It looks like there's more, though. There is. "After his ascent to his champion role, Manic set about repairing the damage done to Hoenn, both by improving its infrastructure and by working on relations with other regions, including long-estranged Kanto." Wow, slick!
"After appointing advisors to oversee the implementation of his plans, Manic traveled abroad in hopes of continuing diplomatic advances with other regions. It was shortly after his trip to Unova that he..." Oh my... "...that he vanished, never to be seen again. Other trainers would take up the Manic name in coming years in almost every region, usually as an indication of intent to bring about great change." I...guess I already knew that part. Go on, what does that last part say? "It's believed that it was his final trip, the voyage to Unova, that brought about..." Brought about what? Sweet Arceus, it can't be true... Ma...Monique? Where are you going? I just...I need some air... Oh...oh dear...oh my... What's going on? Jonas, what does it say?
"It's believed that it was his final trip, the voyage to Unova, that brought about the Nuzlocke plague. The condition, previously unknown to the region, spread like wildfire and has since plunged the region into isolation..." That...that can't be true. Can it? "Unovans generally regard this final trip as tantamount to biological warfare..." "consider Manic to be a coward..." " phoid Mary..." "...used as profanity..." Oh...oh, I can't...I can't keep reading this... This book is a rag of lies! That's not possible! Lad...calm yuirself. If Nuzlocke's a disease, he coulda been th' carrier...an' not e'en known it. C'est impossible... Well, you think what you want! I'm going to go out there and find her!
*snf* Oh...h-hey, Victor... Hey. Um. Can I sit with you? Yeah. So... ... ...are you okay? I feel like I'm gonna throw up... I guess I couldn't blame you. Look, I just have to know...is it true? To be honest? Always. I...can't say with certainty that it's not. I see. I mean, I don't think it is. It shouldn't be. But Nuzlocke works in mysterious ways. I can't actually say for sure that this isn't all happening because of me. When you stop and think about it, though, does it really change anything? What? Of course it does! Well. Before you knew all this, your plans were to try to find a way to put an end to the plague. Right? *snf* Yeah. So, what are you going to do now that you do know all this? Heh. Heh heh. C'mere, you clever bastard. Gah! You have no chance, I'm a snake, we invented hugs! You're right. You're right, of course. Ugh, everyone in there must think I'm a monster... What? Of course not. You're still you. A bunch of letters in a book don't change who you are, that's crazy. Anyway...I owe them an apology. C'mon, let's go back.
Um...hey, team. Ma chere, are you all right? Come here, let me dab your eyes. So, uh. Super awkward. Aye, that it be. I can't say with absolute certainty that what's printed in that book is or is not true, but it sure looks like that's what they teach people. No wonder people were telling you not to use that name. Right. Anyway, Victor and I had a talk, and...I'm going to continue doing what I was doing. My goal was to find a way to end this plague, that hasn't changed. And I'm going with her. Even if she just thinks she's Manic, she's going to need support. Well, I'm still in on a trial basis. If you aren't indirectly responsible for the widespread deaths of my people, there's no reason to jump ship. If you are, I want to make sure you fix it. Ah'm nae worried about who ye were, less. Ah'm only concerned wi' who ye are, an' ye look like ye need a friend. C'est vrai. The past, it cannot be undone. The future is before us. I'm...I'm willing to s-stay too...if nothing else, someone should document this... Heh...thanks, everyone. Best damn team this side of Hoenn. Oh, also...I f-found something while you were outside...
Wha...you did this on your own?! Not quite! I mean no, I mean... He means he hit a switch and it moved on its own. Oh. Well, good work! I'm betting Lenora's down there. I can attest to the pleasant comfort of a nice subterranean reading parlor. Good, ah'm spoilin' for a fight! Hell no! Trust me, whatever else we may have learned here, this is still a Normal-type gym. M-manic's only pokemon loss was in his father's gym...a Normal-type... Right. So we train extra-hard on this one, got it?
H-hooray, a hiding place whenever I need one! So uncouth! But...so effective. Tres bien, I will use it. Erk...uh, Monique? Huh? Feels like I'm being stretched like taffy, here!
Nice! Our third teammate has evolved! Check me out! I'm tall! Stronger, too! And louder...my goodness... Sorry about that, but now I'm truly fit to lead my people into a glorious new age! Er...I don't suppose you could hold off just a little longer? Monique, you're a friend of the cause. For you, the sky's the limit.
We'll just give Madison a new TM move, and...nice! Lookin' good, team! Now, would you be so kind as to drop me off? Oh yeah. I sorta forgot you were there. Lucky. Hilarious. Now, as charming as your comedy troupe is, can I go to the box, already? I dunno, lad. Ye can be used as a free switch if she puts ye out tae take a hit! What? That would surely kill me! I'm nae seein' how that's our problem, boyo. It's our problem because I'm responsible for him, Madison. Even if he won't fight, he doesn't deserve to die for it. Let's get you to the box, sorry for forgetting. Things got...hard. Hmm. Well. For what it's worth, if I was going to fight, I'd prefer it be for someone like you.
(one quick trip to the Pokecenter later...)
So, we're ready then! It's aboot time! Yeah, really starting to feel those diminishing returns. Nnnnope. Mon dieu. I know you are worried, but... Just a couple more levels apiece, okay? I don't want to lose any of you in there. It's f-for our own good...how can we say no...?
Si forte! Such a powerful attack! I knew it! I knew it had to be in there somewhere. You'll excuse me if I'm less enthused. Yeah, Super isn't the better of the Fang pair. It's okay, you're still really tough. Aye, 'tis true. Wouldnae wanna meet ye in a dark alley!
All right. Now we're ready.

Whew. Can you imagine? Your life has been upended by a terrible malady, and you're told that you may have spread it to an entire region?
What's more, that's why people consider you a monster and use your name as profanity?
Talk about a personal disaster. Fortunately, the team isn't shaken, and they continue to press on to prepare for Lenora!

Update #6: Thought Crime - vs. Lenora
Lenora. I'm here to challenge you. Young lady, you look terrible. Is this any way to present yourself to a gym leader? How do you mean? Among other pursuits, I have a background in psychology. Your body language tells me that you're terrified of me. That's...no, I'm not. You are. It's evident in the way you stand, in the way you carry yourself, your hesitant tone. Okay, fine! I am. I know all too well how lethal Normal-type gyms can be. I see. I also saw you looking at that book in the library proper. A fascinating biography, isn't it? It's a snot-rag. A biased failure written about someone who wasn't there to defend themselves. Letting your pokemon speak for you, now? I understand that you're frightened, but know this:
Knowledge is power...and if you allow your fear to overwhelm you, lives will be lost. Pull yuirself t'gether, lass! We c'n do this!
Trainer! Name three other things that can lower an opposing pokemon's attack. Go! Wha- uh, right! Growl, Charm, uhm... Better hurry! Ten-second time limit! Miss a question, skip your turn! C'mon, ah know ye kin do it! Growl, uh, Charm... Three...two... FeatherDance! Very good! Now it's your turn!
Fine, um...name three things that can duplicate a move previously used! Hmmm, nice. Sketch, Mimic, Copycat. Impressive! This woman knows her stuff! So intelligent! Damn it, I was sure... Here, I'll even throw in Mirror Move as a bonus. Now, my turn!
Rock Smash is a HM in most regions. Name three more regional HMs! Hah! I've got this one. Whirlpool, Dive, and, uhm... Come on, if you know what he knew, then you should be able to figure this out! ...Flash! Flash is only an HM in certain regions! Very impressive! You've studied. I've lived. That makes it my turn, yes? By all means.
Okay, what could've made that defense decrease a certainty? Very nice, very nice. I think you're referring to Serene Grace. Augh! She's like a walking encyclopedia! Don't be too humble. You've yet to miss one of mine, and I'm not holding back!
Let's kick it up a notch! Five recoil moves, and an ability to help survive them! Five, huh? Let's go with Take Down, Double-Edge, Flare Blitz...hmmm... Harder than three, isn't it? Come on, come on...! ...Volt Tackle... You've almost got it...one more...! Three...two...one... ...Submission! Very good! And the ability? Rock Head. No recoil damage is taken. Ah, I was sure I had you there! N-nothing doing. All right then, my turn! Time to turn up the heat, Hoenn style!
Normal only has one type weakness. Which other type only has one weakness, and which type has the most? Hmmm. You'll have to do better than that! Electric is only weak to ground, and Rock has five weaknesses! That reminds me. Where is the Rock gym around here? We got rid of that place ages ago. Damn. Hoping for an easy win.
All right, my turn again! How would you have prevented this? Well, I'm assuming you won't count 'pummel it into submission before you can heal' as an answer. Ha! I like your style, but no, I have another answer in mind. Embargo, then. No items can be used on the affected pokemon. Are you understanding this? Dinnae looka me, they're usin' words I ne'er heard b'fore! It's like a ping-pong match, and neither one is willing to let the ball drop! My turn! The only pure Steel-type pokemon outside of Unova is... Nice try. Steelix!
Wrong. Steelix is Steel/Ground. The name you wanted is Mawile, a Hoenn native! Hmph. Using the homefield advantage, are we? Hey, we never agreed to block off any particular region. Though, I've been in Unova for a grand total of a couple of days... I see! Well then, let's stick to more general knowledge from here on in, shall we? You've got a deal. Look at that gleam in her eye. Bring me in! What? Why? Best defense on the team! If you're new to the region, you don't know how Retaliate works. No, I don't. What's that? Normal type attack. Power 70. Power doubles if one of my pokemon died last turn. So, double it, add STAB...good lord, that's a 210-power attack!
And here's who's going to use it. So, tell me, are you prepared to lose your starter? Not on your life. Victor can handle this, just calm your tits. My tits, as you put it, are perfectly calm. What will you do about the coming hit? Two things. First of all...
...I've been saving this for a special occasion. Wow, I'd forgotten all about this! X-Items. Don't leave home without them. A good start, I admit. What's the other thing? Your wardrobe malfunction. Your fly's open. Huh? This thing doesn't have a fly...
...wait, what just happened? Sure looks like a Leer attack to me. So I counteracted your X Defend. Nothing wrong with that. Clever girl. What's he...oh, damn it! Yep! Goodbye, bonus to Retaliate. Glad we never met. Trickery is all well and good, but it won't win you the match. It's my turn! Name TEN legendary pokemon!
Pffft. Only ten? Mew, Mewtwo, Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Lugia, Ho-oh, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza. The last of which I happen to be very familiar with. Hmph. The devil you say. Reading a book doesn't make you an expert. No, I suppose it doesn't, does it? She is winning! Zut, victory is within reach! Y-yay, you can do it...! My turn. Okay, let's talk about legendaries. Name ten MORE legendaries. None of the ones I used. Hmmm, that is challenging. Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Entei, Suicune, um...Giratina, Uxie, Azelf, Mesprit...come on, girl... Three. Two. One! Zero. Very well. I trust you can come up with an answer in my stead? Sure. Let's go with Heatran on this one. Fffff...fine.
Name three attacks that depend on the weight of the affected pokemon! Gyro Ball, Low Kick, Grass Knot. You're looking more and more flustered. I can't lose...if I lose, Nacrene is defenseless! If you're worried about the Striaton gym leaders, I assure you, they're more worried about you. They're still struggling to regroup, are they? They are. But I need to ask you about that after the match. For now, name four attacks with 70% accuracy and 120 power. Thunder, Blizzard, Focus Blast, and...Gunk Shot!
So much for that idea. Hoping I was going to say 'Fire Blast', were you? The thought had occurred to me. Worth a try. I have to admit, this is the most challenging fight I've had in years! You're extremely well-educated. As are you. All respect. For now, your final question, please. All right, here comes the Hail Mary. Name one pokemon beginning with each letter of the alphabet! Very well then. Absol, Bagon, Charmander, Diglett, Elekid, Flygon, Grovyle, Heracross, Ivysaur, Jumpluff, Kecleon, Lairon, Manectric, Numel, Octillery, Pelipper, Quagsire, Raticate, Swampert, Togepi, Unown, Vibrava, Walrein, Xatu, Yanma, and Zubat! You...how do you only have one badge, but you know so much? Sorry, you already had your question. Time for mine. What attack can I use on my turn that will defeat you? Clever. Okay, I'm a little lost here.
Simple. If she chooses an attack that won't defeat her, then she's disqualified due to her own rules. And if I choose an attack that will defeat me, she uses it and I lose. A fascinating game...the only way to win is not to play.
Brilliant. A combination of advanced knowledge of Pokemon and tactical wit. In truth, I lost the moment you came down those steps. Take this badge with my blessings.
May you never gain its bonus. I don't intend to, though I do intend to use it. What? That doesn't make any sense. Who'll use something like that? You will. Me?! Why me?! If someone hurts one of your friends, you'll use this move to make them pay. Besides, even its unadjusted damage is better than Tackle. She's got ye there! I...you're....okay. Fine.
Oh, hell no! Lenora: That's my line! Come on, we have to get out there! You don't have any pokemon that can fight! Lenora: No, but you do! Hawes: There's no time for this, come quickly!
Damn, that woman can move! Hawes: Ooooh, she's angry now. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that expression! Let's hurry! Wait! Neither of you are trainers, and they all have pokemon! B-but nobody's had a chance to heal! I'll be fine, let's just get moving! Attendez-vous! Let us get our rears in gear!
Och, wha' is this stuff?! Cover your mouths, don't breathe it in! I've got myself and Victor!
What's this 'we'? And by we, I mean you! That's a little more like it. Er, not to be all mercenary, but how does this get us any closer to any of our goals? There's more to life than selfish ambition, Ingrid. If I walked away, I wouldn't be able to face myself in the morning. Quit yer yappin' an' let's go!
Uh, remember what we're doing here? Thieves, running off? Who is this guy? L-look at his eyes...he's scaring me...! I think he might be high!
Okay, correction, I think you're both high! I assure you, this man is the genuine article. His artistic talent is unmatched! Let me guess. He sees things no one can see. He's been known to say that on occasion, yes. How did you know? That face... Me mum was right, it really will stick tha' way!
And while we've been here talking to Too Much Coffee man, they've been getting away! Lenora: What was that phrase you used? Calm your tits, young lady. They won't get far. Burgh: Let me just place a quick phone call...yes, it's me. Yes, again. Something was stolen from Lenora. We think they're headed your way. Yes, really. Yes. Well, why not find out? Oh. Well, I guess that works too. Everyone seems very upset...
Lenora: Young man! That's no way to speak to a lady. It's all right, I assure you. This girl has been affected by Dream Mist, and believes herself to be Manic. Lenora: Oh, honey. Winners don't use drugs, don't you know that? She didn't mean to! At least, I think she didn't. Fennel says she probably found a Musharna without knowing what it was... Burgh: Musharna are such wonderous creatures! I only wish I was still allowed to possess one. Ahem. In answer to your question, yes. Someone just stole a skull from the museum! Hmph. Some people have no respect for antiquity. We should go to seek out these thieves, Madame! Aye, I'm hankerin' fer a scrap! It's worse than that. What makes you think so? Odds are, there are trainers in there. If they find out they're sandwiched in...think 'hostages'. Oh, hell. You're right, let's go!
But...why like that? Seems simple to me. She keeps people from leaving town through the other exit. The two of you keep an eye on the crime scene in case they return. Burgh and I go and flush them out. Lenora: Most impressive! I'd almost believe you really were Manic. He may have been irresponsible, but he was very sharp. Look, can we talk about my identity crisis later? Time is ticking away! W-wait! Before you go...
Please come back safe... You don't have to worry about me. I'll have a gym leader with me, remember? I g-guess so. Are you gumming up the works again? Come on, let's go inside. That girl needs some self-confidence in the worst kind of way. I d-don't know, I can sort of relate to her...
That's what I've been saying this whole time. So let's go already!

Fun fact: For that gym battle, I decided I wasn't allowed to look anything up. Or use any pokemon names from Unova, for obvious reasons.
And Burgh...sheesh. If you don't remember, wait until we see his portrait...and his gym. Yikes.
Normal gym down without any challenges. Next stop, Pinwheel Forest!
