Hope you were able to enjoy the audio as the gym battles proceeded!
Now we've what I consider the central hub for Unova sewn up. Next up is Clay!
Before that, though...guess who we get to meet for the first time!

Update #12: Cold Comfort
Elesa has procured us passage along the drawbridge, I see. Well, yeah. I mean, how else are we going to keep going on? I have no intention of swimming so far. I'd s-sink like a stone... *sigh* I'll never get to fly. Not with that attitude, you won't.
Whoah! Head on fire! That's his hair...I think? Poppycock, hair can't naturally do that. Ah'm goin' with Manic on this one. The sod's hair's on fire! Don't be silly, that's just one of the festival clowns. You think so? There's no bright-colored...well, okay, there is. But there's no facepaint or squeaky nose! Clearly, he's simply not very good at it.
... No. WAY. By which you mean, of course, it's an imitation of the champion. Not at all. Hello, Alder. Enjoying your ill-gotten gains? Hell yeah! Wait. I mean, hell no! 'E's a nutter! This man is the leader of this region?! I can't pledge my allegiance to this buffoon! Then resign. Simple as that. Ugh. We've been over this, Elesa. I wish I could, but I can't!
Look, long story short, this is Unova! Not that stuffy old hall way up in the mountains, where the others sit in their ivory towers. If you want to know the people, watch how they celebrate! Well, at least you're more engaging than Wallace. Come again? Ah, nevermind. C'mon, join in the fun! Shameful. When I become champion, I won't put on such vulgar displays.
It's really very simple. This region is in the midst of a civil war because of your claim to the championship. My victory will remove the reason for that war. I will use my newfound power to restore some dignity and sanity to Unova. Scientific efforts will be redoubled, and we will find our way out of this geographical gulag. In short, I will do what Manic was trying to do. What, you'll declare war on the world, infect an entire region, then run with your tail between your legs? Hey, douchecanoe! Why not say that to my face? It's fine. I've got this. The fact of the matter is, 'champion', Manic could not possibly be responsible for the affliction rampaging through our region. Someone has played the blame-shifting game.
...wait, yes it is! That's moronic! You're telling me that you've discovered something that no one else has discovered in the last fifty years? Do you understand how insane that sounds? Actually, I can vouch for his claim. He's definitely discovered something that no one else has found in the last five decades. Oh? And who are you, young lady? Monique, hush! Here we go... Milady, perhaps now is not the proper time? My name isn't Monique. My name is Manic. As in, THE Manic. Not one of the pretenders who took up my name afterward, but the real McCoy. I can stand here and tell you that I definitely didn't bring this outbreak to Unova, and while I don't know who did, I intend to find out! Oooooh. I think that might've been really stupid. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... Oh, you're taking the name, are you? All right, then, let's see if you're worthy of it.
Aw, man. Are we really beating up on preschoolers again? Don't let your guard down, Manic. If they're with him, they're likely well-equipped. Hold! What do you mean, 'again'? I d-don't like this at all... Wow. This is even lower than I expected. Look, it's complicated, okay? For some reason, people seem to get kicks out of making Manic fight little kids. And since they're trainers, nobody can run away. So it's us or them.
(And it was nearly them! Double Herdier Take-Down Power!)
Gladly. C'mon, let's get out of here. Hmmm. You sure fight like him! She has studied a great deal. She can tell you almost anything about his life. Oh, a fangirl, huh? HA! That explains it. So, why not be a fan of mine instead, huh? He's got to be kidding... Because there's not enough mousse in the world for two of those? Because you're the kind of sicko who'd make me fight little kids. At least Tate and Liza could defend themselves. Come on if you're coming. I'm on it.
C'est magnifique! Oh, the fact that it comes apart only makes me more nervous...! Take heart, squire! You will be at my side throughout the whole of the journey. Okay, I have to admit, that's pretty impressive. Unova has done pretty well for itself, all things considered. Be that as it may, I'm far more interested in what's on the other side. It's like part o' th' journey is ending. Haven't you been watching? This journey has been nothing but beginnings and endings. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop... Well, don't hold your breath. Why would I hold my breath? Ah, skip it.
Okay, Elesa. Thanks for everything. No problem. There is one way you can repay me, though. What do you have in mind? Dethrone Alder. You can see now why he's an unfit Champion. ...hmmm. He wouldn't be the first worthless Champion I took down. Exactly. Do that for me, and I consider your debt to be repaid in full. And then I can swoop in and defeat you. Doesn't bother me, so long as the champion actually wins the honor. See you!
Hmmm. It's not as long as the Skyarrow Bridge, but it's still pretty big, huh? Yeah! And thanks for leaving Cheren back there, he was getting on my nerves. Quel embetant...that boy is a problem! Aye, I dinnae WHOAH! Wot th' bloody hell?! It would seem that this is the source of descending feathers! Swiftly, squire, a pokeball! Oh my, yes, here you go, I don't know how to- ...whew! Nothing like a bird flying up in your face to throw you completely off-kilter. Rub it in, why don't you. Er, right. Sorry.
Right! Makes perfect sense. Oh, good! I don't have to explain it. Sure, sure! It's made of metal, just like a Charizard. *snicker* Yeah, and it splits in half, just like a Charizard! It is fastened to the ground, comme un Charizard! Oh, oh, let me! It, uhm...it, uh... It is covered in feathers, in a manner similar to that of a Charizard! Oh, um, yes, I see, it...it's remote-controlled, like a Charizard...? ...I don't like you. We just got here, and we're already offending people. Awesome.
I...wasn't? Why would anyone show up to welcome us? Look, I ain't much fer long hellos or long goodbyes. This already seems to be running a little long to me. How it seems to y'all ain't important.
Oh, shit. Really? You got a mouth on ya, ain'tcha? Ahem. What she means to say is, we're terribly sorry, we had no idea that you were having issues with Team Plasma. Phew! Y'all're some odd couple. She's got a mouth like a sailor, he's got a wedgie so far up his butt he can floss with it. HA! I like this guy. He certainly is...candid. But what did he say? Odd couple? Whoah, whoah, you've got it all wrong. Cheren is a friend of mine, but not like that. Pourquoi pas? You know that he idolizes you. Frieda, no, okay? Just no. I'm just yankin' yer chain. Tell ya what, though.
And if we don't? Then I hope y'all enjoy yer stay, an' come again real soon. That charlatan! He insists that we do his dirty work for the right to issue a challenge! Um...actually... Hmmm? It's true, I'm afraid. A gym leader can issue a pre-challenge requirement, even one outside their own gym. Merde! How will we find them?
Well, first let's see if they left town this way. I guess. But didn't they escape when we lowered the bridge? Had they passed us, we surely would have taken their measure! Arthur's right, which means only one of two things could've happened. Either th' bloody bastards're still in town... Yeah, or they went this way. We get it. Hey, wait! New route, new catch!
...or, I could just continue my quest to catch every Grass-type in Unova. B-but why would you... She's joking. You are joking, right? Fffff...yes. Yes, I'm joking. Seriously, what the actual fuck, fate? S'il vous plait! A bit of decorum! We do seem to have an excess of green in our reserves. Okay, universe. I get it. I didn't have a Grass type last time, so I do now. But I have Victor, okay? Victor's awesome and he's totally got the Grass thing covered, so you can stop now. Okay? She's losing it, isn't she? I'm...repeating to myself a quote I once heard... Share th' wealth, laddie! D-don't worry if she talks to the sky...worry if the sky talks back... Let's keep that in mind. RIGHT! Moving on.
Well, at least it wasn't a total loss. Aye! Jonas knows a good Rock move now, an' tha' stone might help sometime! More importantly, they definitely didn't come this way. Though I am wondering what the story is with the cave. W-well...if you want my opinion... If we have to. Wouldn't those warehouses give them lots of places to hide...? HA! Of course, right under our noses! Splendid work, squire. Shall we away, milady? We're not getting any further until we do! To the cold storage!
They pretty much have to be. Yes, I agree. I've been standing guard by the bridge, and if you've explored the route, we have them cornered. Hey, uh, Cheren? Yes, what is it? Could you hold the fort for a minute? I need to do a luck check. A what, now? Don't worry about it, I'll be in sight the entire time. Now, let's see what we can get...
An ice cream cone? Really? I've seen worse! More importantly, the streak is broken! Th' streak? Look, when you've been doing this as long as I have, you grow to accept that luck is an actual thing. That means it can be influenced. Perhaps it was having Cheren close, non? Frieda, c'mon, seriously. Cheren is...Cheren. There's absolutely no chance in this or any world. Are you quite done? Yeah, I'm done! Coming! I have to wonder why they didn't seek an alternate escape. Surely, they'll freeze to death in here.
J-just hurry. I'm n-not cut out for this c-c-cold. You know, you can stand just ou- Like I said, I'll be waiting outside. And off he goes, abandoning us again. M-manic, I can't stand this... Right. Everybody stay close for warmth. Jacob, perch on my shoulder. You asked for it. UMPH! Okay, yes, you're heavy...but I've got it. Rock type. I shall tend to miss Frieda and my squire. And that leaves Jonas and Madison. Ye try anythin' funny, an' I'll knock yuir haid clear off yuir neck! In this cold? I really don't think you need to worry.
H-hey, everyone. Wanna hear about my old team? Aye, anythin' tae take my mind off this bloody freezer! Well, let's see. I had Gustav, he was my starter. Mudkip-turned-Swampert. Turns out Glacia had authorized experiments in which both of his parents were killed. He was a nice guy, spoke fluent Spanish. You've g-gotta thing for foreign-language water types, huh? Huh, I never drew the parallel before, but yeah, I guess. Perry was my Wingull-turned-Pelipper, he was super laid-back, it was almost impossible to harsh his buzz. Let's see...there was Maxine, she had a lot of attitude, always ready for a fight. Electrike-turned-Manectric. Woulda liked tae meet 'er! She was proud, but strong. Ace was my Wurmple-turned-Beautifly, total comedian, really nice guy. A bit insecure, but always ready with a gag. Calima was my Trapinch-turned-Flygon. Real mystery girl. Nobody ever quite had a handle on her, and she always seemed to know more than she let on. Your previous team certainly had a great deal of personality, milady! Yeah, and then...Dana. You do not need to discuss her if you do not wish it. What's the big deal? Dana was the one she lost, dummy. I don't think 'lost' is the right word. Sure, she did die in the fifth gym, but...bah, remind me to tell you in greater detail sometime.
Cheren? What are you doing here? C-couldn't let you face this alone. Let's g-go. Wow, you look terrible. Y-you're one to t-talk. Two d-diamond cutters... AHEM! Right. Okay. Let's get in there.
...this was not what I signed up for.
...THIS WAS DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR. In combat, you baboon. Oh. Okay then.
(scenes deleted due to gratuitous everything)
Uh, mind if we take a bit of a rain check on that one? Uh oh. Again? Is something the matter? Seriously, I'm frozen to the core. I need to heat up and get rejuvenated before I even think of a gym battle. Now, y'all rest easy. I got ya good accommodations in the Center. Ol' Clay'll take care of ya. P-please take him up on it... If she dunna do it, I will! Well, uh, th-thanks. Sure, I'll go for it. Just a quick stop-off...hmmm, NeverMeltIce. I remember this stuff. Okay, t-team. Let's GTFO.
(two days later...)
Okay, team. Cheren is well ahead of us. We need to start training or we'll get left behind! To be honest, milady, I fail to see the problem with that. I dislike the boy greatly. There are three big problems with having Cheren leave us behind, Arthur. Anybody want to take a guess at them? For one thing, imagine how smug he'll be if he becomes Champion before us. I can't stand smug people. That's one. He has been tres useful to us, many times! That's two. Can anyone figure the last one out? Drawin' a blank, lass. I th-think I know... Good, then speak up already. We've...we've beaten him every time. And it wasn't even really all that close... So? He's not afflicted with Nuzlocke. I know, I know, but I'd feel more comfortable if we watched out for him. He's smart, but he's still comparatively new at this traveling thing. So c'mon, let's get to training so we can get that badge and move on.
This is what you had been waiting for, n'est-ce pas? My word! Madame, you were delightful to behold before...but now, you are a vision! Please, you are too kind! Lass, ah'm real proud of ye! Oh m-my, yes...you're v-very strong now, I can tell! Merci, merci! Come here, the both of you! Wait, don't hug them, you're still...evolving? Och, lass, I feel...funny...
Oi, that's roight helfy, tha' is! Ffffffuuuuuh...wow! Sweet Arceus, check you out! She's a tank! Mon dieu! So large, so strong! Ah'll be bustin' numpties left an' right, like this! Oh...oh dear...oh, I don't feel well... Dinnae be scairt, lad! Ah'm on yuir side! It's not that, I...oh dear...oh dear!
Is...is it over...? Oi, yui're a monster in yuir own right, lad! C'est vrai! I am most impressed, monsieur Jonas! Holy CRAP, look at you three! And I still haven't evolved. What a shock. Take heart, friend! Can you not see the look in Manic's eyes? ...I think I just heard Clay crying.

Going from memory here, Clay's gym wasn't a hoedown, that's for sure. That's Marshall in Blinding Light. (Yeehaw)
Just read through Infernal Red again, and I noticed the point about the non-canon runs being planned for a transfer to this site. Oh I am looking forward to re-reading The Process. Such a fun playthrough. Then again, your Johto runs were my favourites.

Update #13: You Bet Your Life - vs. Clay
Okay, team. With these new evolutions, I think we're just about ready to take Clay on. Yeah, I feel great now that I've evolved oh wait. Dinnae get yuir feathers in a ruffle. Ye'll get there! I'm s-sure your evolution will be very impressive... In the interim, let's go see about checking out the gym, huh? Stand fast, milady! Scoundrels are afoot!
Y'all got th' wrong town. Circus's over in Nimbasa. Yes, charming. I'm certain that you understand who I'm speaking of. These fellas what were stealin' pokemon, right? Come now, I'm certain it's all a grand misunderstanding. Isn't that right, men?
There's just one problem. Oh? And what could that be? Just so happens I think you're fulla shit. This guy is awesome. Best gym leader yet. Shhh! Now, now. You're not going to make this more difficult than it has to be, are you? Nope. Y'ain't gettin' yer friends back, they broke th' law. That's how it works. Nothin' difficult about it.
Is that right? It's exactly right. Now, it seems to me to be in your best interest as a shrewd gym leader to maintain at least marginally favorable relations with us, don't you agree? Reckon I don't follow your meanin'. You've made quite a bit of money off of your mining operation, haven't you? Fella, I don't like where this is goin'. How many lives do you think would be lost if an unfortunate cave-in were to occur? Cowardly churl! Rrrrr...lemme at 'em! Shh! Now is not the time! Take yer trash and get outta my city. I ever see you bastards again, I'm gonna deal with you personal-like.
Get goin'. Don't y'all lemme see you around here again. Very well. I assure you, you will never see my face in Driftveil again. Come, all of you. Ah, hello there, Cheren and Manic. What do you think? Should we... No. Too many innocent lives at stake. For now, they leave unharmed. Fou toi! I couldn't agree more.
I'm real sorry y'all had to see that. Wouldn't it have been worth the loss of life to bring them all in for good? Nope. I ain't gonna let my people die, simple as that. Even if it means saving all the lives they'll take in the future? Can't bargain like that, kid. People ain't just numbers. W-what a horrible decision to have to make... Leadership is a heavy burden, squire. Never forget this. Both of you are prepared to make the hard choice, I see. I gotta question. Why'd he call you 'Manic'? Because that's who I am. I don't know how, but I'm the real deal, even if I don't look like it. Yeah, that's what Elesa said. Li'l problem, though: she's dumb as dirt. Hey, whoah! None of that. I got it. Whenever y'all're ready, you come on in. Well, that was...abrupt. He hates you. Why wouldn't he? Much as I hate to interrupt your dialogue...
In my current state, Clay would systematically dismantle me. And what of you? I've been training this whole time. Honestly, I thought you were still ahead of me. I've been doing a lot of studying and research, it's left little time for training. That time, then, is now. All right, Cheren. Take it easy out there, okay? But not too easy.
(later, inside the gym...)
Hmmm. Interesting gimmick, but I swear I've seen this before. Certainly not in Unova? No, not in Unova...wait! I've got it! One of the gyms in Sinnoh does this too. I h-hate it in here... I'd've thought you'd be right at home, swimming in dirt. This isn't like digging...there's all these elevators, and a long drop to the bottom... Jonas. Are you afraid of heights? M-maybe...a little...? Il serai d'accord, mon ami. These elevators, they are strong, nothing can happen. Let's hurry anyway. Remember what Ghetsis said about a cave-in.
...of course, a few quick stops along the way might not be so bad, either.
Whoah. Will you look at that! It's...it's beautiful... A slice o' home, eh, lad? It's pretty shiny, I'll give you that. Clearly, Clay is a man of means. Y'all took yer time gettin' here...Manic. Sorry about that. Why are you looking at me like that? Hope y'ain't too broke up about it. Mine's th' last human face yer ever gonna see. I dislike the sound of that, milady. What? Why? You took my boy from me. Wait...what? I've never even met your boy. An' ya never will. He died in th' war after you vanished. Eyes were a solid white. Nothin' left inside. If you hadn't started all this, he'd still be alive. Now, neither you or I are gettin' outta here alive, unless... Unless?
You got five minutes to convince me not t'blow this room to kingdom come. What about your people up above? Didn't ya notice th' blast shields? They won't feel a thing.
All right, look. First of all, by blowing this room to kingdom come, I assume you mean destroying it and everything inside? Just setting the ground rules, here. Yup. Y'got that right. First of all, that would be suicide. Assuming your son went to the afterlife, you wouldn't get to meet him there. Y'think so? I'd be gettin' rid of a menace. A war criminal, even. Monsieur Clay, a moment of your time, please? Hmmm? Whatcha want? Attendez-vous, if you would. I have only known Manic since the beginning of her journey. This was a few short weeks ago. Go on. In this time, she has defeated Team Plasma many times, she has renewed hope for an old man, helped a scientist with her research, aided an abused girl, rescued several pokemon...this is not a menace. Th' hell you say. No matter what she may have done in another lifetime...I know her as a hero. Aw, Frieda... You appear to be blushing, milady. What? No I'm not! D-don't worry, it's cute...
Now listen 'ere, ye daft bugger! Can't say I like yer attitude much. Madison, be careful. He's literally holding a detonator in his hand! I dinnae care aboot that! Wot d'ye think ye'll be doin' if ye blow th' place up, ye knob? Gettin' some justice for mah boy. And what of the new victims you will create? We six, we did nothing to your boy. To say nothin' of th' folks ya employ! All those jobs lost, families losin' food, maybe homes! I'm doin' what I gotta do! I ain't gotta defend myself ta you! Murder is never the answer, Clay. And that's what this would be, pure and simple.
Admit it, monsieur. You are not doing this for your son. You are doing this for yourself. ...ow.
Fine, then. I'm doin' this for myself. An' for all other people you killed. You know she didn't actually kill anyone, right? I ain't sayin' she put a bullet through anybody's head. I'm sayin' she started a war that caused a lotta death. Suppose I told you that I could demonstrate that's not true? I'm a man who deals in results. You gotta demonstration, I'm all ears.
Fact. Your son is dead. Yup. Fact. Your son was killed in a war between Hoenn and Unova that occurred after Manic's disappearance. Right so far. Fact. Manic visited several other regions before Unova, to improve relations. So I heard. Fact. Everyone in every region is similarly afflicted. Yup...wait. No. That ain't right.
So, logic through this with me. If Manic visited multiple regions, why did only Unova get affected? I dunno. It must have been something distinctive about Unova. Something that wasn't true about any other region, including Hoenn. Victor? Where are you going with this? Shhh. Keep talkin', Victor. Nobody had Nuzlocke in Unova before Manic visited. Is that right? Yer sayin' our immune systems couldn't hack it? No, that doesn't make any sense. If that were the case, anyone who hadn't been exposed could catch it. What I'm saying is, it couldn't have been Manic. So it must've been something else. What's this gotta do with my boy? I'm a little lost here myself, Victor. Pray, friend - if you have a point, do draw toward it. We've already established that Manic has been framed. Moreover, the Unova-Hoenn war took place because of that framing. Wait a minute. Wait a damn minute! You're sayin'... ...of course! Whoever framed me for spreading Nuzlocke throughout Unova is responsible for the war! And, therefore, responsible for the death of your son! You mean all this time, we've been tricked? Don't make no sense, though. Who benefits from somethin' like that? That's what I want to find out, and I'm uniquely suited to it. But I can't do it if I'm a red spray on the wall.
And yer persuasive skills are top-notch. Yer pokemon, too. Reckon if you were really a monster, I wouldn'ta had a chance. Clay, listen. I know it doesn't mean much, but I'm truly sorry for your loss. I believe it...I believe it. Me too. I want to ask you something, though. The treatments you take to avoid whiting out. Where do they come from? Th' league ships 'em to all the gym leaders. Okay, where does the league get them? ...y'know, I ain't sure. Then that's our next goal. Y'all're serious about this, huh? Completely and totally serious.
You avenge my boy, Manic. You figure out who took him away, an' you make 'em pay. I promise, Clay. I will.
I stashed somethin' there I wanna give to ya. You mean, by the web? Web? That ain't right...huh. Now I really gotta meet you there. Okay, team. Let's get moving. Immunity to ground attacks and you still don't use me. Yeah, and you should thank her. Did you see those rock type attacks and water type attacks? You would have swiftly found yourself outmatched, my feathered friend. Story of my life. At l-least she didn't use me...being weak to ground type attacks isn't much fun... Something tells me you'll be glad later on. For now, let's get everyone healed and go meet Clay.
Oh, Bianca! It's good to see you're doing all right. Y-yeah, this is all pretty easy, really...! So, let me guess. You ambushed me outside Driftveil because...
Because I want a battle, silly! Okay, team. Heads up, we're dealing with a new and improved Bianca now!
I am most grateful that she cannot understand us. Damned critical hits... Truly. Miss Bianca may be more confident, but her skills require some sharpening. Y-you did a great job on her Musharna, Sir Arthur... She had a Musharna? Oh...oh, wow, that was, uhm... I'm going to go with 'painful to watch'.
Woo-hoo! HM Fly! That's going to make things so much easier! I'm glad you like it...Professor Juniper said I should give it to you! Juniper is around? She's helping out some scientists up ahead, but she said I should give this to you when you came by, and that I should say hello for her... Hmmm, maybe I'll meet her up ahead, then. After I talk to Clay. He had something to give me.
Juniper's pretty cool, for a professor. Y-yeah, I really like her, and she's been teaching me a lot...anyway, see you! Well then. Fly is in hand! We all know who's getting that. There's only one... Aye, time tae get yuir wings under ye!
Fuck. My. Life. Okay, you know what? No. We're not doing that. Huh? Fuck this shit. You're a Flying type! Manic, the pokedex says they can't fly. No. Fuck the pokedex. That thing was written by a demented ten-year-old with a nervous tick. Good heavens...that face! It's the same visage she wears before a gym match! Fly is a flying type move! You, Jacob, are a flying type! And if I say that you can fly, then Arceus dammit...
You... Whoah, whoah, what's all this?!
Are going... Sweet truck-driving Mew, look at me!
TO FLY! HOLYSHIT LOOK AT ME! I'm flying! I'm level 37 and what is this?! Well, I'll be dipped in latex and used as a marital aid. Did I not say that your potential had yet to be achieved? Aye, lad! Lookit ye now! Nothin' holdin' ye up but yuir own two wings! *snf* It is magnifique! S-so big...! No stupid little pokedex tells me what my pokemon can or can't do. So, how about it, Jacob? Words fail me! I'm gonna fly the rest of the way there, okay? Seeya! What? Wait! Ah, let him go. I can't blame him.
Here's th' trouble: this ain't th' kinda thing they do naturally. Somebody put this here. You think someone is trying to impede my progress? Ain't no 'think' about it. Somebody's tryin' to stop you cold. Yer friends, too. I don't like this, Clay. I don't like this at all. This isn't the kind of thing Team Plasma does. Seems a mite too smart for 'em. Y'all keep goin', now. Be real careful in there, okay? Ain't no tellin' what's inside. An' take this with ya.
I'm back! Did I miss anyth...I did. Nothing all that surprising. C'mon, let's get in there.
...the hell is this...erk? Ye want me tae take 'em down? Nobody...move...a muscle. Manic? Manic, what's wrong? The guy in back...has a knife...right at the base of my spine. You attack, he pushes. For now, we go with them. Cowardly dogs! Very well. For now, we cooperate.
Wait. You employ these guys? Did I not make myself clear? Ghetsis recruited them, not me.
It's not that. Oh? What it is, then? N, I've been listening to you prattle and preach since we met in Accumula. You've set yourself up in your mind to be this great hero who discovers and befriends a legendary dragon. An exceedingly rude way of phrasing the matter, but yes. And that means that you need an opposite number. You can't be a hero if you don't have a villain to defeat, after all. Most perceptive.
Wrong. Dead wrong. No, it is as I have foretold it. Well, you foretold wrong. Bianca is getting stronger. Noticeably stronger, and I'm not just talking about pokemon battles. Her Herdier nearly took Frieda out despite a level difference. C'est vrai, it was most painful. She's learning to live her life for herself, and have faith in her abilities. As for Cheren? He's starting to learn that strength alone isn't enough. He's growing to understand the need for conviction as well. Be silent! T-textbook villain denial... Ha-ha! See how rattled he becomes! Face it, N. Your predictions have failed you. We're not following your script. We're not following any script.
Perhaps they can show you just how wrong you are.

Update #14: Awkward
Okay, anybody else getting sick of N? I mean, really sick of him? Oui, he is the fourth wheel! Fifth wheel, Frieda. How would you drive with five wheels? That's sort of the...ah, nevermind. He m-makes me nervous...he's so single-minded... Aye, that's th' real boggart. That kindae numpty dinnae think o' anything but his own views! We just have to be careful. He said Team Plasma was up ahead, so we need to stay on our guard.
WHAT. Oh, um...the...the stones. They move sometimes... Bianca. Listen. You can't be here. Oh...I'm sorry, I was just trying to help... No, look. I'm not mad at you, okay? For your own well-being, you need to leave. B-but the professor... Oh, hell. You don't think...?
No, no, no, not good! Well, nice to see you too. Juniper, listen. You look worried, Manic. I don't like that one bit. She called you Manic! Well, duh. Why wouldn't she? I was going by 'Monique' for a while. Then I assume you know? I do. And I must admit, it's an honor. Juniper, listen. Team Plasma is ahead. Worse, they've hired some kind of incredibly skilled assassins. Both of you are in mortal danger, you have to leave! Nonsense. I've never been deterred before, I'm not going to be bullied now. And where the professor goes, I go! Okay, team. Huddle up.
It's pretty obvious they're not going to turn around of their own free will. Why not make them? We're strong enough. Non! Bianca, she is still fragile. If she feels forced... We might need Juniper's help later, too. Hmmmm... Well, we cannae just abandon 'em! Arthur, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Eh? Wh...of course! We accompany the fair damsels on their journey! I...I w-won't let anyone hurt Bianca...! Then it's settled? Seems to be the only way.
Okay. If you're going through, we're going with you. You have to promise to stay close, though. Did you hear that? Manic's coming too! Wonderful! If nothing else, I'd like to see how you capture pokemon, as well as how you handle yourself in a fight. For posterity, you understand. Just stay close. I don't want anything to happen to either of you. Now then, the present I had for you. Maybe it's a new TM! Il peut-etre an egg of some sort! M-maybe some healing items...?
WOMAN, I LOVE YOU WITH MOUTH. Whoah! I, um...aheh, that's very flattering... Wow, I've never seen you like this! Victor, this is a Lucky Egg. It doubles XP gain! That seems useful... Useful and incredibly rare. I've never actually seen one in person before now. Well! Ahem. I'm certainly glad you like it! Now then, shall we continue? Hmm? Yeah! Absolutely. Just remember, keep a low profile. You won't even know we're here.
(some time later...)
I must admit, my findings are astonishing. Want to share? Yes, please, I'm very curious! Ahem. On the subject of Klink, I can find no evidence that Klink inhabited this cave more than approximately one hundred years ago. As the species cannot be found anywhere else in Unova, I must assume that this represents the result of a large-scale migration into Chargestone Cave, possibly representing a need for the currents in the structure to fuel their mobility. Enthralling, I'm sure. I dinnae ken what yui're sayin'. If I may conjecture? If the species journeyed here from elsewhere, wouldn't that indicate that their previous environment had somehow become unsuitable? Most species don't migrate en masse unless forced. Why...yes, in fact. You're extraordinarily well-read, aren't you? Oh my, uhm, it was s-sort of a hobby of mine... Heh, I think you've found a kindred spirit. Anyway, let's-
Bloody 'ell, not again! MANIC!! What is the meaning of this?! All three of you, listen. Those two have nothing to do with this. I was just escorting them through the cave. Leave them be, and I'll come with you quietly and without resistance. Manic, no! What if they- I'll be fine. If they wanted me dead, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I swear, when I evolve... Everyone stay calm. Be cool. Nothing needs to happen here. Juniper, Bianca, try to find another way through. If worse comes to worse, head back and find Clay. Jacob, Jonas, I want you to stay with them. Help them to get through or out, as needs be. W-we can't just leave you...! You're going to die down there, aren't you? No, I'm not. None of us are. I need you to do this for me. Please! Meet me on the other side of the cave once I get through. If I'm not there in one day...then Juniper will take care of you. C-c-come on...I c-can't watch...oh my, oh my...
Yeah, that's great. I sorta figured that. Any reason you couldn't tell me that without scaring the shit out of my friends? ... Hello? ... I see. Bloody bastards're ignorin' ye! C'est d'accord, we know what we must know. Cowards...my fury knows no bounds! Keep cool. Let's go downstairs. Maybe we can even find a new ally.
Intriguing. This is the pokemon that Juniper was talking about. Most fortuitous typing! Also explains yet another reason why they settled here. Je ne comprends pas... Imagine these things trying to get through Driftveil with Clay in the way. I get it. Ground type user. Not a good plan. So, as if the current wasn't enough, they settled here for safety's sake. I can't wait to tell Juniper!
(and then a lot of beatdown happened)
You! What the hell are you on about? Compromise. So many people compromise their values. Where are the rest of your pokemon? You don't need to know that. Did you finally lose them? Do you finally understand? Manic, this guy is getting on my last nerve! No, I didn't lose them. I know exactly where they are, and you can't reach them. That is why you have the ability to be my rival. You hold to your values as strongly as I hold to mine. Yeah, but I don't bludgeon people over the head with mine!
You know, since you asked? I do. Milady, does this lackwit deserve to hear your dreams? Aye, wot's 'e done tae warrant that, eh? No. If he's going to share his dream with me, the least I can do is reciprocate. I'm all ears. There are ears under there? My dream is to find out who framed me for spreading Nuzlocke in this region, and both stop the outbreak and clear my name. Very we- I wasn't done. My apologies. Continue. Once I've done that...I want to figure out where fifty years went. I want to know how I wound up here, in this body, in this place and time. There's something even bigger going on than just Unova's plight. Are you done now? Yes. You don't seem to need me to tell you this, but if you want a dream...
...you had better be prepared to fight for it. Bring it on, Chuckles.
(Joltik fight not pictured due to creepy spiders)
Arthur, I'll need your help on this one. I have your back, friend! Together, we'll show these vagabonds who they're dealing with!
No, there's a very different reason you can't win. Oh? And what reason is that? You don't form a bond with your pokemon. In your quest to distance yourself from them, you've failed to forge the sort of understanding crucial to a battling harmony. Then your proposed alternative is to brutalize countless wild pokemon as practice? We dinnae start fights, ye dobber, but we sure end 'em!
Th-this cave has very good echoes... THERE you are! You want me to peck out this guy's eyes for you? What? Ew! Also, no. Also, I'm glad you made it through all right. Likewise! Was Team Plasma much trouble? Nope. Everyone performed well. I see, so that's where the others were. N. Listen closely to me. These two have nothing to do with this. You keep your assassins away from them. Are you suggesting that the Shadow Triad were threatening them? I can confirm that.
What do I have to say for myself?! Uh oh. P-professor? Uh, Bianca? Why don't you just come over here. Now, you listen to me, you pissant little L wannabe. You come to my region with your Renaissance faire-looking embarrassments, swipe pokemon to replace the unfortunate, poorly-trained ones you've somehow managed to capture - nice double-standard, by the way - cause me and my friends and the gym leaders no end of headache by stumbling around like drunken sailors on shore leave, and you want to know what I - a respected and respectable scientist using my talents to benefit humans and pokemon alike - have to say to you, a creepy anime-haired little freakshow who keeps harassing good people for no reason other than his hypocritical little fever dream? I cannot deny it. I am extremely frightened right now. Sh-she's scary... Aye! Aye, lass! That's right! Ye tell th' bugger wot's wot!
...and you go stick your head between a pair of Klink and shout 'GO!' as loud as you can!
Well, you wouldn't have to. Y-yeah! Go...go hug a Ferrothorn! Take a leap from the Skyarrow! Go drown yourself in Burgh's gym! G-go dig yourself a hole and climb in...and cover it up! Heh. Heh heh. Hmph. And what do you want me to do? Get nice an' close. I...I think I'll pass. I think I hear Ghetsis calling me. At some future time, I trust I'll catch your scent.
I think you may have that reversed. For crying out loud... Remind me never to piss her off. Lady Manic, Lady Bianca, or Lady Juniper? What do you mean 'or'?
Ugh, thank god. It'll be a lot harder for the Triad to sneak up on us out in the ope-
Whoah, hey, what the hell?! You've met her, then! Good for you. Who is this guy? Stand fast! Friend or foe? I dinnae think he's dangerous. Spy, maybe? I don't think so. I just get this super-presumptuous vibe off of him.
No wonder she's angry. *pffffftchch* Hush now, squire! S-sorry...
What, you mean, you can just do that? Just like that? Just did! Here you go. How the...? It's just a hidden switch. Normally turned off to save battery life, but screw that noise, am I right? He hardly seems a role model. Cue issue in three...two...one...
Well, sure. I mean, we kinda have to. Skyla: I'll be looking forward to it! Wait. You're the gym leader? Skyla: I sure am! Why do you look surprised? You, uh...how can I put this? Skyla: Sure, I'm a little young, but I'm up to it! Er, no, that's not quite it. How can I say this so it won't offend you... You look like Lady Gaga and Bjork had a love-child and dropped it on its head every five minutes for the first four years of its life.
Dammit, Jacob! What? She does. I mean, look at how she's dressed! Quelle surprise, you are not diplomatic. Look, uh...Skyla, right? I mean, that's just one opinion... Cedric: I'm staying way the hell away from this one. You give me a call later, okay, Skyla? You too if you survive, Manic!
You know, once I've gone home and changed my clothes. Aheh. Uhm, right. Look, I'm sorry about- Just forget it. Meet me there if you want. The hell is wrong with you, Jacob? I just- Not cool. Not cool at all. That was very offensive! Look, was I wrong? That is not the issue at hand! If ye ever talk tae me like that, I'll bite ye so hard! That...that was mean. I don't like it when you talk like that. I'm sorry, okay? It just slipped out! If you're sorry, and you know it was wrong, stop trying to justify it. I'm...sorry. I didn't mean to. *sigh* It's okay. Let's just put it behind us.
Wow, check all these people out! ...what about them? We have all these options now. What're we gonna do? Well, the first thing I want to do is learn the Hidden Power for Victor and Frieda. Steel and Ground, respectively. ...balls. Oh well. Would Ground coverage not make up for my Electrical weakness? I'm not sure I trust it. This guy tells you type, but not power. We'll give it some thought. Now, let's see what's in the shop.
Yeah, that's gonna happen. C'mon, let's have a look around before we go after Skyla. Yeah...maybe she'll cool down. I'll keep my big stupid beak shut. Hey, c'mon, don't be like that. Okay, so you screwed up. Nobody's perfect. Aye. Dinnae do it again, an' it's water unner the bridge. I'll try. I'm not really good with people...or pokemon...or, y'know, life. Then we shall be of assistance! ...yeah? It is, how you say, what friends are for. N'est-ce pas? Yeah, uh, okay. I'll try not to be such a tool.
Wow, this place is serious about the whole flying thing. Does this make anyone else a trifle uneasy? Now that you mention it... M-maybe we could get going...? If that's okay, I mean... Sure, okay. She's probably already there.
Off to a good start! If only one of us could utilize it effectively! Yeah, but it'll be good to have around. Who knows, maybe one of you will get sick of this stuff. You aren't talking about replacing us, are you? What? No! Not at all. Not unless you tell me you want to be replaced. That's Manic's rule: nobody goes to the box for longer than is absolutely necessary unless they want to.
Aaaaand boxed. At least for now. You don't want a Zebstrika? Who said I don't want a Zebstrika? I just don't have room for one on the team right now. Manic, kin we go back tae th' move relearner sometime soon? Huh? Yeah, sure, just as soon as we catch up with Skyla and do this Celestial Tower thing. What do you suppose she wants in such a place?
Ffffffffuck. There is a problem? Yeah, I just figured out why she came here. Because it's tall? Oh, damn. I just figured it out too. ...did I screw up even worse than I thought? Oh, another high place...why did it have to be another high place...? A little, yeah, but you couldn't have known. *whine* I dinnae like it here... I'm not surprised. This place is a cemetary.

Whew. Awkward indeed! Manic splits the party in the name of keeping Bianca and Juniper safe. Why does Manic split the party? Because she's never played D&D, that's why!
Do not piss Juniper off. She's scary when she's mad!
Aaaaaand Jacob sticks his foot in his beak. C'mon, we've all been there.

Yeah, I kinda get the impression that Jacob spent so much time stuck in his bubble of defeatism that he forgot how to filter. Not a problem when he's keeping to himself anyway, but kind of rude once he comes out of his shell. Err, metaphorical shell. You'd need the other fossil for a literal one.

Update #15: Terror in the Skies - vs. Skyla
Okay. Is anyone else creeped right the fuck out? Aye, lad. That I am... It's...kind of weird. I mean, I knew this whole region was afflicted with Nuzlocke, and I knew that meant dead Pokemon... Oui, but to see it in front of you... I d-don't like it here, I don't like it here at all. Can't we wait for her outside? Take courage, squire. Though this task be unnerving, we shall see it through! I just don't get you sometimes.
...huh. Okay, I didn't expect that. D-didn't expect what? Oh, I can't look... C'mon, Jonas. It's okay. Take a good look at it, it'll be all right. Okay, does anyone else think it's sort of cute? Sorry, man. If you're looking for fire-as-cute, you've got the wrong serpent. Quelle mignon! Come with us, little one! Just...just k-keep it away from me...okay?
(a few floors later)
You know, this place isn't all that bad. Ah, be that as it may, shall we hurry? Are you sick or something? It's a mausoleum! I'm not saying I want to make it a summer home or anything, but between the nurse, the good XP, and the straightforward design, it's not particularly nightmarish. Aheh. Perhaps some fresh air, mmm?
Mmmf. Jacob, NO. What? I didn't say anything. I do have one question, though. Your rude flying type - what is it? Come again? I've never seen anything quite like it. It's clearly avian, but what species? Oh! Of course! Jacob here is an Archeops, evolved from an Archen. He was restored from a fossilized state.
Well, I haven't actually lost anyone. Not you. W-what's she talking about? Your Jacob. He may be the last of the Archeops. It could be years before they find another fossil. Hey, look, um...Skyla. I'm not good at this, but...I'm really sorry for what I said. I'm not good at talking to people, or being around people. Sorry if I was a dick. I understand. And really, you're right, I should probably change my outfit. Well...
I'll have things ready for you. Ring the bell if you want to. If it's all the same, I think I'll pass. C'mon, man. Don't be like that. To reject milady Skyla's offer would be most rude. I dunno. I'd like to hear this one. Why? This bell calls out to the dead. I spent a lot of time focusing on death. If it's all the same to everyone, I'd like to focus on life now. This reason, it makes sense. Aye, lad. Life's for th' livin'. No bell, then. Hey, uh, Manic? Something weird is happening... Great. More ghosts?
I don't think so.
HELL yeah. Now, this is what I'm talking about! Mon dieu! So majestic! W-wow...you're huge...! I was beginnin' tae think it wasnae gonna happen! Then I shall be the last. Damn, Victor. Though, won't you miss your legs? Nnnnnope. Check out this coiling action! Er...way to go! Heh, close enough. Just wish I could use you in the coming gym fight. I'm not worried, I'll have my time in the sun.
Uh...what? Don't worry! Hardly anyone has died getting through this gym. Heh. Heh heh. You're a riot. No, really! Very few fatalities. Hasn't been one in weeks! No. Jones, we have to- NO. If we want to face Skyla, we- M-manic, I've gone with you on a ferris wheel, into towers f-full of ghosts, and into deep mine shafts. C-cannons are where I draw the line! NO! ...ride in the pokeball where it's completely safe? Come now. You wouldn't abandon a lady in her hour of need, would you? ...f-fine. But no more heights for a while after this! Deal. *pchoo* Don't worry, folks. I'm sure it's just a gimmick.
IT'S NOT A GIMMICK, IT'S NOT A GIMMICK! Milady, hold on tightly! TO WHAT?! Isn't this incredibly dangerous?! I don't care what you say, this is nuts! I cannae look! Tell me when it's over or I'm dead! You heard the man! Seulement un peu fatalities! Clearly this is precisely timed!
AAAAIGH! Arceus, my FACE! Urgence! Manic, are you all right?! That sounded incredibly painful! It hurts, gaaaaah, my face, my nose...am I bleeding? Slightly. Perhaps a handkerchief? Th' leader's slipped a cog! She's daft, plain bonkers! C'mere. Lean on me. I've got you...there you go. Oh, wow. Um...I really, really hate to be the bearer of bad news... What? You still sorta, uh, have to climb in one more cannon to reach her. FFFFFFFFUUUUUU...
Damn it, woman, what the hell is wrong with you?! Excuse you? And what happened to...ohhh dear. Was that the shouting I heard? Yes! Yes, that was the shouting you heard! It's fine, let me see, I'll...ewww. Oh dear. Um. I'm sure that'll heal right up? Jonas! *pchoo* W-well, you were right, I didn't feel a WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?! One of the damn cannons is mis-calibrated. Shot me into a wall! I knew it! I knew it wasn't s-safe! Well, if you're done complaining, it's time for our battle. I'll see to your medical bills later. So, you're leading with your Swoobat, huh? Fine, I'll have Jonas...wait. What are you doing?
You didn't think a seasoned pilot was going to fight you on the ground, did you? Better get up here, or I'll strafe you to bits! Crap, crap! Not good! Jacob, we need a lift! What, seriously? Well...all aboard! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO-
All right, Swoobat! First, we're going to pull over them at five o'clock, and Swanna will- SHUT UP I HATE YOU I HATE ALL OF YOU LEAVE ME ALONE! Whoah! Er, squire! You're hardly behaving in a manner befi- YOU SHUT UP TOO I HATE THIS I DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE AIR! Uh...do you need some alone time? Bloody 'ell, he's goin' off his rocker! Well, uh...I guess it's...super-effective? Watch where you're aiming that stuff! Oh, you're gonna hate me for this...but it'll work like a charm. Jacob? Jacob, what are you thinking?! Hey, Jonas? WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU WANT?! If you don't one-shot this next one? I'm going to do a barrel roll.
NO! DON'T DO IT! IT'S DOWN! IT'S DOWN! THEY'RE ALL DOWN! PUT ME DOWN! NOW! ... Well, you won. I have to admit, though, I've never seen someone with quite so little control of their pokemon. I thought you were supposed to be a Manic? Jacob, land us. Now. Got it. Jonas, mon ami, are you...? G-GET AWAY! J-just...j-just leave...leave me alone...! Wow. It's rare that a pokemon will press the button on its own pokeball. I don't like this, Manic. At all. We need to get out of here. And you, Jacob! What the hell were you thinking?! ...that the sooner he finished, the sooner he could land. One moment of panic saving entire minutes of torment.
I would say 'keep your badge', but we need it to proceed. Jacob, I understand what you were trying to do, but do you understand how cruel it was? I do. Do you understand how hard it's going to be for Jonas to trust you now? It'll probably never happen. Manic. Look at him. I mean really look. What do you mean? He's serious. He did know it would ruin his friendship with Jonas, but he did it to spare Jonas more pain. That's not amusement on his face. ...shit. It's fine. It's...fine. I mean, that's what friends are for, right? Let's just get to the center.
So maybe this center isn't such a good idea. Skyla, if there's one thing you need to know about me, you're about to learn it. Hmm? If any of those Team Plasma morons get in the way of me helping Jonas, I will literally smash them to pieces. I see. Well, best of luck with that! Now, how do I get back? Guess!
I hate this fucking gym.
You don't have the faintest clue what you're talking about, N. Now get out of my way. Don't I? I heard the pain in your Archeops' voice. I heard your Excadrill's screams of terror. Tell me, Manic. That little shard of metal in your case. Was it worth it? ... Well? ...every fiber of my being wants to say 'no'. Then say it. I can't. Why can't you see that? I'm doing what needs to be done. Countless lives hang in the balance! It's a horrible, horrible thing to have to put my friends through, but...
He's not going to answer you, N. And why is that? Because he's basically shut down for now. The lights are on, but nobody's home. And whose fault is that? You know, it's hard enough to keep the big picture in mind without you doing this. Whose fault? Say it! Hey, back off, buddy! Can you not see we have been through l'enfer? You say there's a big picture, like it's some kind of excuse. Like there's some kind of big villain wringing his hands and plotting the world's ruin.
...never realizing that the real hero has been here all along. You have no idea... Say again? YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! You keep saying that, but- This isn't about heroism, you greedy, self-absorbed little bastard! This isn't some fairy tale where the dashing knight and the princess ride off into the sunset! Oi, lass, settle now... No, Madison. I'm not going to settle! This is an ugly story, N! Full of pain and death and conspiracy and lies! Not suitable for children of any age. I'm not going through this purgatory because I'm a hero, I'm doing it because it needs to be done! And if you can't understand that, then you're an even more short-sighted...wretched... Easy, milady. It's all right. It's okay. Just lean on me. You don't have to explain yourself to this spoiled brat any more. The pain in your eyes is like staring into the sun. So you do understand.
...but the reality is far more harsh. We are not so dissimilar, you and I. Liar! She's nothing like you. Nothing at all! I seek an end to the deaths in Unova. To this end, I seek the release of all pokemon. She seeks an end to the deaths in Unova. To this end, she seeks the true cause of the affliction. What's your point? Both of us are forced to do things we hate in order to achieve a greater good. Our paths differ, our sacrifices differ, but our goal is the same. Non! You are a thief and a hypocrite! We are both hypocrites...Frieda, is it? And we are both aware of it. It is the burden we both carry. I resist Manic because my path demands it. Manic resists me because her path demands it. To do less is to spit in the face of the sacrifices we've made. Get out of my sight. Very well, but know this: I do not hate you, Manic. I respect you for following your path. In another world, we might have been friends. That said, it is necessary for me to defeat you in order to achieve our goal. I will not relent; I do not expect you to, either. Just go.
(later, at the pokemon center...)
Shhh. He's coming out of it. Jonas? Jonas, buddy, are you okay? I...I don't...know. Ever are you my stalwart squire, friend. You have my deep respect for what you did. Where...where's Jacob? He sits in the corner, mon ami. I thought you might not want him nearby when you, y'know, woke up. Dinnae do anythin' rash, boyo. Jonas? Jonas, you don't have to- Yes, I do. It's fine. Go ahead. I deserve it and I know it. You might consider the Metal Claw, it'll be super-effective. Jonas, no! Everybody hurry! ... ... Er...Metal Claw usually involves the claws. I...I heard everything...what you were trying to do... Uh, a little help here? *snicker* I dunno, you don't seem to be in any danger. Hah! Unless one can die from embarrassment, perhaps! I'm s-sorry I went all crazy, everyone... It's fine, it's fine! Could you let go of me now? No more heights, Jonas. Not for a good long while. I promise.
Hell yeah! Manic! Over here! I got it, I got it! It's one of the few off-type attacks you can know. Ye givin' it tae anyone else? Nah. We already have a truckload of flying coverage, and it's better than this. I'd teach Acrobatics to Victor, if I could. What, so I can do my impression of a big green hula hoop? *snrk* Yeah, something like that. C'mon, let's see what Twist Mountain looks like.
Well, that was fast. I don't particularly want to stand out in the freezing cold any longer than necessary. Can you blame me? Okay, you have a point. Besides, this jacket soaks up moisture like a sponge. I get it! Now, let me introduce you to a friend of mine. Jacob, would you do the honors? My pleasure! What in heaven's name is that?
Archeops. Sometimes known as the 'Winged Death'. What. You totally just made that up! Yeah, but it sounds cool. Rrrrr...on yuir guards, I smell layabout! What? What're you-
Oh. Ggggh...! Easy, Jonas, easy. We're not making that jump. No more heights, remember? Excellent fight! Splendid! You both fought well, especially your whatchamacallit, Manic! Yes, and you were very impressive with your oh wait I've never seen you fight.
Sorry, sir. Is that a good thing? No. No, it is not. So, who exactly is Marshal? Elite Four. It's hard to explain, but if you keep going as you are, you'll meet him. I know that's my intention. And after them, you. Listen to me, both of you. This is no longer about simple competition, do you understand? I've been watching you, and you're getting close to something you shouldn't be meddling with. *snrk* Meddling :xd: I'm not joking with you! I'm here to give you something to help you press on.
Wait. You give us something to press on, but you say we shouldn't be meddling. Which is it? Are you contributing to the delinquency of a trainer? Or two? Yes. Maybe. It's hard to say, these days. Why can't things just be simple for once? Look, just teach that to a pokemon, okay? If nothing else, for self-defense. Anyway, I'm out!
Well, you heard the man. Hmmm. I'll need to catch a pokemon that can learn Surf. Oh, right. Say, that reminds me: why do you only have four pokemon? Diluting your training among pokemon you don't intend to use is a bad idea. Surely, your 'team' is an example of this. Right, but my team is six deep. I have every slot filled. Different methods, I suppose. At any rate, perhaps you should report back to Juniper. Surely, your pokedex has a good number of entries by now, if you've been catching as often as possible. ...fair enough. Bye, Cheren.
Okay, what is it? What? You cannot fool us. Milady Frieda is correct. Something troubles you. So, out wi' it. It's Cheren. We've passed the sixth gym, but he has only four pokemon. Different styles, like he said. No. Cheren is smart enough to know that a full team is a strategic advantage. Th-then...you're saying...?
Yeah. Cheren is lying to us.

Definitely a harsh update! Lots of shouting, lots of people losing their cool...friendships lost and reforged, sacrifices made.
And Skyla's gym. A practical death trap. Is Jim Gai joking about the fatalities? You'd think so, but with mistakes like that, can you be sure?
And that close, though. Cheren is hiding something...but what, and why?

crimsondoom Keep in mind, Jacob comes from prehistoric times, when niceties like 'manners' simply weren't a factor. The fact that he can speak at all is nothing short of amazing (and a result of the museum reanimator's skill).

Update #16: Crash Landing
Alors, j'ai besoin de dormir... I know it's tiring, but look at all the amazing stuff we're getting! So many TMs, so many items! Man, I wish Fly could do stuff like this. Everybody has their role. You get us back to centers in a hurry. Frieda gets us to previously inaccessible locations. If it's all the s-same to you...no flying for a while...? Right, no worries. You know we're going to have to fly again eventually, right? S-sure, but...just give me a breather... Hmmm. While we're here...
Wow. What is it with all the dark caves all of a sudden? Oooh, it's so cozy in here...! Stay at your guard, friend. There are foes lurking around every corner! It's okay...if something happens, I can handle it. A most welcome change of attitude! Betcher feelin' like yuir home, aye? Oh, n-not quite...the soil here is different, and the grades of the slopes are steeper. It's nice, though... So, uh, about this darkness problem.
What darkness problem? Huh. Yeah, I guess that works. Arceus, that feels good. Quoi? Oh, I don't remember if I mentioned it, but Flash is an HM back home. As a TM, this thing is okay. As an HM, it's practically rancid. Here, I can teach it guilt-free!
I like it here! I knew you would. Er, no, not for the same reasons as you. Perhaps an explanation is in order? Well, catching Sergio here was pretty nice, but Rock Slide is pretty much the definitive Rock type move. What, no Stone Edge? Too inaccurate. Granted, Rock moves aren't known for their accuracy, but Rock Slide combines solid power with reasonable accuracy and a flinch chance. Yuir droolin', lass! What? No I'm not. Aye, but ye had tae check, didn't ye? Ha ha. Let's see what else is in here...
Wait. You're not talking about the Unova-Hoenn war, are you? Indeed not. I'm speaking of something much older, much more central to Unovan history. Well, you'll have to excuse me if I'm not awfully enthused. Not a believer, eh? No, quite the opposite. I definitely believe in legendaries. That's the problem. Come again? In my experience, legendaries are forces of chaos. They randomize the world for their own purposes with little concern for humans or pokemon. I believe they exist, I just don't have faith in their goodwill. Anyway, thanks for the history lesson, I need to get moving. Is this because of what happened in Hoenn? Yes. Now c'mon, let's get through Twist Mountain already, we've dawdled enough.
Sorry. I haven't. They've been mercifully absent from my sight as well.
Hmmm. You think that's a wise choice? Yup. Why, you got a better idea? You know, I thought I did for a minute there...but upon further reflection, no. Explain, if you would. I may be more focused on now than fifty years ago, but that doesn't mean I can't learn from my experiences. In Hoenn, I only defeated Teams Aqua and Magma because I took the fight to them. Even then, I was almost too late. Yer sayin' we oughtta be more proactive, then? See, that's just it: no. This is a very different kind of group. The grunts are still grunts, but the higher-ups are crafty, even intelligent. We have to draw them out. Intriguing. I support this notion, at least for the time being. In th' meantime, y'all oughtta see what Twist Mountain looks like in the wintertime. It's pretty impressive, an'...
I get the picture. Thanks, Clay. We'll stay in touch. Y'all better. I ain't forgot your promise. Me neither, I assure you. A most unusual fellow, but honorable regardless. S-salt of the earth, when he's not trying to blow us to kingdom come... Hmmm. I wonder what we can get here...
Perma-boxed. Sorry, I've already got a Fighting type.
Whoah. Will you look at this place? Aw, that's just sad... Are ye daft, lad? Lookit all th' snow tae play in! It's covering up all the lovely ground! Hey, uh...think I could get a lift, somebody? Oh, yeah, sure. I gotcha. Whew. Thanks. Wasn't looking forward to going through that. Actually, everybody be careful. It looks like the snow has made a shortcut, but this place could still be dangerous, especially if the snow shifts. Fear not, milady. I grow ever stronger in your company!
(While wandering through Twist Mountain...)
Oh, hey, a Battle Girl. Help...me... ...okay, that's a little creepy. Ahem. Is this thing on? Ah, good. Manic, I presume. I dinnae like this, not one bit! Manic. Look at her eyes. It's like Jonas during his space-out, but she's still talking. Yyyyes, I'm Manic. Can I help you? Why, certainly. You can turn right around and go home. Actually, no, I can't. I'm sorry, but I have a mission to accomplish. A couple, actually. That's a pity. You see, your mission is becoming a problem for me and my allies. Perhaps a bit of a warning will suffice. Playing rough, huh? Jacob, go show this thing who's boss. You got it. Hey, tough guy! Here, have a smack in the OW... Watch it, Jacob! This thing knows Revenge!
Hey, you okay? Let me switch you out. Urgh...y-yeah, sure. Hmmm. You really are Manic, aren't you? I already told you I was. That explains why you didn't know to be cautious. Any Unovan native knows, never let a Throh get a hand on your pokemon. Why, what's-
"Over the course of my travels, it has been my experience that most regions subtly favor one or two types. Kanto is a hospitable environment for Flying types, much like my homeland Hoenn offers a surfeit of Water types. Along these lines, Sinnoh appears to offer a hospitable environment for Ground - and, to a lesser extent, Grass - types, and even Johto boasts a prevalence of Normal types. It was this experience, that single moment frozen in time, that taught me that Unova is home to some of the most powerful Fighting types found in any region.
Even now, there are nights when my dreams resonate on that single specific moment, leaving me frozen in place and unable to turn my gaze away from the spectacle. Each time, I recall how Jacob's final shrill shriek of surprise is choked short, oblivion claiming his consciousness as the Throh uses its free hand to grip his shoulder...
...and tears him in half like a phone book."
- excerpt from All At Once, the memoirs of Manic
JACOB!! It...it cannae be... No...no way. No way, this can't be happening... I changed my mind...I h-hate this cave...hate it! Rest easy, friend. You fought well and with honor. I do not care who you are. I do not care what has come over you. I do not care why you have done this thing to mon ami. I know and care about only this:
YOU HAVE BREATHED YOUR LAST! Oh, Arceus. D-don't look. Just...turn your head away. You don't have to see this. You are wrong, friend. We must all pay witness, and we must all see to his proper memorial. Och, lad, ye were doin' so well...it's just nae fair. What? Where am I? Who are you? Your pokemon, it's - oh no, did I do that?! N-no. No, you didn't. Something took control of you. I remember. I was trying to fight it, but it was like trying to hold back the sun. What? What transpires here?
... Merciful Arceus, no. Not like this.
C-congratulations, Arthur. Milady, I...I have no words. I would surrender it in an instant if it could revive our fallen friend. I know, Arthur. We all would. I'm at a loss for words... Aye. Aye, lad. We all are. Manic. Ma chere. We m-must find a way out of this cave. Quickly. Yeah. Yeah, I know. Jacob, I'm so sorry.
Shut up and move. Hmm. Unusually coarse language for you. You too, Cheren. Now, wait just a- I am NOT in the mood for your SHIT! Your...your pokeballs. The top of one has turned black. Then......yeah. You there. Get out of our way or I will give you a thrashing you'll never forget!
Emboar, burn them alive. We're leaving, we're leaving! Sheesh! It's fine. They're gone. I am truly sorry. If you don't mind my asking, who was lost? Jacob. The Archeops. The one who took apart my entire team?! It was so sudden. His ability never even came into play. There was this Battle Girl, and she moved like a puppet, like she was being controlled.
I don't think you need anyone in your way. Besides, if you're being followed, someone has to slow them down. Cheren, listen. I...no. Not now. I'll ask you later. Go. Lay Jacob to rest. I'll handle things here. Thanks. You know, for an egotistical douche and a liar, he's not such a bad guy. Not now, Victor.
OH MY ARCEUS, FUCKING MOVE. What? What the hell? Get. Out. Of. My. Way. Wow. You look like hell. Why are you clutching an...oh. Is every living thing in this entire forsaken region going to stand between me and the pokecenter?! Sorry. Sorry, I didn't realize that you, uh...sorry.
It's to the north. I'll tell you more if you want to come by. You know, if you need to talk. Come now, the center, it is just up these steps. I thought that blowhard would never leave. Come now, milady. That's the way, easy as you go. I'm fine! I can walk. Dinnae be afraid tae lean on yuir friends, lass. W-we need you...as much as you need us...
As condolences for your loss, dear. I didn't say I lost anyone. You did. Just not with your voice. How would you- The slow march of the team with the body of the fallen ally. All Unovans know it. It comes as naturally as walking. I...I need to go... I understand. Take heart.
Valhalla? Foreign mythology...a hall for fallen warriors. It suits him well. Me claws fer a set o' pipes... Pourquoi...why would anyone willingly do such a thing? Because we're getting closer to the truth. Something someone doesn't want us to see, someone very powerful. I think...I think Jacob would be happy with his resting place...among the clouds. I hope so, Jonas. I really, truly hope so.

He was doing so well. Coming along so nicely. He was imperfect, but he was trying, like you and me.
And then, the wrong move at the wrong time, and he was gone.
We found Cheren, but this is not the time.

Though I have read these before, it's still hard to read the death of one of Manic's allies. They're all likable, and you really feel the loss from Manic and the rest of his team. There's a weight there, a weight which increases as the series goes on.

Update #17: Renewal
Anyway, after all that, we traveled around Icirrus City and learned things, gathered stuff...but it was like her heart just wasn't in it. Nobody was expecting to lose Jacob, but all of us are native Unovans, we're used to the idea that death awaits us all. Apparently, it just wasn't like that in Hoenn 50 years ago. She says that Nuzlocke was incredibly rare back there. Back then? Both.
We even caught this beauty - sheesh, face that could curdle milk, if you ask me - but it was all done in this incredibly awkward silence. I mean, we were all feeling it, don't get me wrong...but it was like a traveling morgue, creepy as hell. I guess we eventually finished, because we finally came back to do what needed to be done.
I just...I don't know. AH! Gadzooks, woman! You scared me half to- er, you startled me! Sorry. I guess I haven't been very talkative, huh? Understatement of the century. So, what now? I just don't know. Part of me says to get Lumiere, part of me says to get Synch. Mais non, you can only choose one! I know, I know. There's even a part of me that says to get Frankie, but...brrr. Och, kin I cast a vote fer nae-Frankie? Y-yes, she ma....er, I mean, he makes...oh, you know. Would it bother everyone if I just taught Fly to Marla, and we went with five for now? It's not long-term, is it? No, no. I'm just not ready yet, is all.
*sigh* Och, lookit th' size o' him! I dunno. Don't get me wrong. It's a tempting prospect, but... 'Tis too soon, milady. We all understand well enough. Worry not, he'll be ready when the time is right. Let's see what else we can do.
APPARENTLY THE ANSWER IS SLIDE EVERYWHERE oh look a TM. Ice levels. Why do they always have ice levels?! Come again? It's a reference. A little lighthearted humor. Oh, uhm...heh heh... Everybody's a critic.
Wow. Winter kinda took a dump all over this place, huh? Madame! C'est vrai, she has a point. I d-don't see any grass... Aye, an' the lake's frozen over! All wanting to ditch this frozen wasteland? Looks like everybody. I'd raise a hand except, well, y'know. So noted. Let's blow this joint.
...ow. What? The pun. You actually GOT that? Fantastic! It's amazing how few people do. Can I put it back where I found it? Some people just have no sense of humor. Y'know, team, we're just not having any luck here. P-professor Juniper is very intelligent...maybe she'll have an idea? You know, that's not a half-bad notion. Let's go get Marla.
Manic? Why were you riding a Ducklett? Juniper, it's Jacob. He...he's... Oh. Oh, Manic, I'm so sorry. Yeah. Nothing else I catch just seems to be right for the team, y'know? So you came to me for advice. An Archeops will be hard to replace. Have you considered the routes west of Route 1? Hey, that's right! We can use Surf to get over the water now! Whoah, wait. Routes? As in more than one? Well, they're pretty quiet these days, but- Perfect!
Manic...s'il vous plait, can you recall the others to their pokeballs? Well...what do you all think? I'm okay with it. Aye, suits me. F-fine with me, I don't like the water... With pleasure, milady. Well, there you have it. Mind if I ask why? It is easier to transport one than five. Good point. Well, back in you go, folks! *pchoo x4*
... ...huh. Hmmm? I never thought I'd actually miss the stuff up here, but it's kinda like white noise. It's weird without it. Then let us depart, mmm? Yeah. Let's get moving.
Wow. Uh. Probleme? It looks sort of like a Luvdisc has been going to the gym. Qu'est-ce que c'est, Luvdisc? Oh, it's a little fish shaped like a heart. No, I was asking after the Luvdisc. And I was explaining it. That's why they look so much alike. Maybe it's an offshoot, I dunno. Anyway, let's just keep moving.
Ahhh. Dry land, and a new route. Doesn't seem to go much of anywhere, though. Okay, folks. Out you go. It's tropical out here. Kinda nice, really. Look at all the sand...! Most hospitable, indeed. Oi, ye lot! Dinnae forget why we're here! Right, yeah. Catch time. But first, a quick breather. That was a lot of surfing!
I'm sure they won't mind if we just catch our breath.
...well. Huh. Okay. And suddenly, egg! Mind if I ask what it is? Bugger if I know. It is the most unusual color! Would barkin' at it help? ...probably not? Then I got nothin'. Ah, let's just carry it and find out when it hatches. We're not ready for another teammate anyway.
But this, this is always welcome! It seems a shame to lose Scald. Y'know, you're right. Let's wait until we actually need this for something. Indeed! Since we know the location of the Move Deleter, we can swap them back and forth willy-nilly. *snrk* Wow. Willy-nilly, huh? Quite. Is something the matter? No, no, I- hmmm. Anybody else see an island off in the distance? Where? Way off over that way. Yikes, that's going to take some serious navigating. Frieda, you up for it? I will give it, how you say, the college try!
Anybody else in favor of loading this thing up and seeing what it says? Aye, let's have a look-see! Ahem. Allow me... Oh, sweet. It's got a readout.
FROM: <hidden> TO: <hidden>
Production of the treatment continues apace. None of the gym leaders suspect a thing. As dependence grows, we will need to increase our supply. May need to delve into other markets. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn. Steady supply of material ensures continued success. Contacts in the various teams remain stable for now.
Remember: as far as the leaders know, they need those treatments. They must continue to believe this. Fostering new addictions will be difficult if word gets out. Suspect the Manic-of-the-day already knows. Exercise extreme caution. She is highly dangerous and bent on discovering - and almost certainly ruining - what we have going here. Employ secret weapon sparingly; it is terrifyingly powerful, but a loose cannon.
Please delete this message after reading.
...well, fuck me sideways. I don't understand. What does it mean? It m-means that the gym leaders are addicted to those treatments... And that they don't actually need them. Won't they white out, though? Such vagrants may assume that the lives of the leaders are of small import. We need to get this to Lenora sometime soon. For now, let's keep it safe and focus on getting our new teammate hatched. Oh, hey, an item. Let's see here.
TOTALLY WORTH IT! Man, I wish I could learn that! Moi aussi! Such power! Perhaps our new companion will be able to make use of it? Right! Right. Eyes on the prize. Sorry. Focusing now.
MANIC. What? You don't want to have to come back for this stuff, do you? Look, a distraction! Huh? ...hey! I knew it.
Okay. So, here we are. Ah, milady, I have no experience with such matters. What are we...? It's okay, Sir Arthur. We're just going to ride back and forth until it hatches. Sir Arthur? A title befitting my stature, don't you think? Now, don't go getting a swelled head on me. Wasn't so long ago, you were knee-high to everyone else. Actually, I think it's kinda cool. SIR Arthur. Rolls off the tongue. Well, you would know. Anyway, let's ride.
(And we rode...)
(...and rode...)
(...and just kept on riding. Seriously. For, like, an hour. Finally, after long enough:)
Hey! Hey, wake up! It's moving! Whuh? I don't wanna go in the tall grass... Attention! This is a special moment, take care not to miss it! What, the egg?! I'm up, I'm up! I wonder what it will be! The coloration gives some clue, I think... *yawn* Wot's all th' ruckus?
Here it comes... Wait for it... Wait for it...!
Bug/Fire. Fantastic. Shhh! Do not be so rude! Bonjour, little one! I am Frieda, and this is Victor, and Madison, and Arthur, and Jonas. Sir Arthur. H-hello...please don't burn me... Bollocks tae that. Yer plain Arthur tae me. Hello, it's a pleasure to meet all of you. Especially you, Manic. O...kay, I don't think I said my name anywhere in there. You did not need to. My name is Prometheus, and I am the Oracle of Life and Change. We have much to discuss, you and I.

How do you fill the gap left by a loss? Slowly. With the passage of time, and patience.
But hey! Sometimes a new friend just shows up. And sometimes they know you before you introduce yourself...?
Also, the plot thickens! Those anti-Nuzlocke treatments are looking more and more suspicious...

Update #18: Obligation - vs. Brycen
Remind me again why I'm wearing this thing? Because putting you up against wild pokemon is a horrible idea. So, explain to me...what's an Oracle, and how do you know my name? Each Manic - with the exception of the original, of course - is sent an Oracle to help guide them through their trial. Oi, wot kinda 'trial'? Let's start from the beginning. Have you deduced yet that you are not the true Manic? Non, we have already done this! Yeah, she knows things only the original Manic could. Yes, she does. She is also not the original Manic. Both of these things are true, though you could not possibly have known. Sure, whatever. Here, have an XP munchie.
Whew! Bracing. At any rate, have you heard the story of the other Manics? Y-You mean how others have taken up the name throughout the years...? Indeed so. Would it surprise you to learn that those Manics were every bit as real as the one standing before you, and every bit as unreal? Does 'confuse' count under 'surprise'? Make your words plain! Here, let's train as we talk.
This should be a decent spot. Good balance of safety and XP. Yes, this should do nicely. Now then, as I was saying, what stands before you is a Manic, but not the Manic. How could that be? I remember everything. This is very difficult to explain. Let's recap, it may help.
In 2012, the original Manic defeated Wallace and became champion of Hoenn. This is a fact. Aye, 'tis true. In 2022, Kanto's champion was defeated and the region saved by Manic, Self-Aware. He was aided by Creosote, Oracle of Might and Humor. So strong were the forces aligned against you at this time that Creosote could not reveal his identity. Unfortunately, he did not survive the journey. Whoah, wait. You're telling me that those Manics were real? After a fashion. They were also unreal, much as you are. In 2042, Hoenn was rescued from a new generation of peril by Manic, Innocent. He was aided by a similarly otherworldly group of allies, along with Penelope, Oracle of Knowledge and Restraint. Regrettably, she also fell in battle. You Oracles do seem to have survivability issues, do you not? Very much so. In 2052, Sinnoh was conquered by Manic, Courageous. He managed to discover Franklin, Oracle of Time and Fortune. Unlike the ones before him, this Manic was able to keep his Oracle alive. If all goes well, you will eventually meet Franklin. ...and then there's me, here, in 2062. With Prometheus, the Oracle of Life and Change. That still leaves a lot of questions unanswered, though.
Many of those questions may be answered when you learn that you have been voyaging with Manic, Experienced. Uniquely blessed - or cursed, depending on your point of view - to be the only Manic to retain the memories, skills...and burdens...of the original. This...this is a lot to digest. You're saying that I'm not really the original Manic? I only think I am? You are, and you are not. As the various Manics defeated different regions, the power leveled against you began to weaken. Unova represents an enormous push to finally get you to fail a trial. As a consequence, where Creosote and Penelope had to be very careful, I can speak freely of many things they could not discuss. If nothing else, know this: as with all other Oracles, I am prepared to lay down my life in your defense if needs be. I'm really, really hoping it doesn't come to that. I'm gettin' dizzeh! Let's chat up th' move relearner lass, aye? Yeah, okay. I think that's enough exposition for now.
First, let's switch this over to you, Arthur. 'Twould be my privilege, milady. It is an upgrade over Headbutt, as well! Aye, but what're ye gonna give me? Well, I was doing some checking in the Pokedex. Oh my...are you g-going to teach her...? Oh, you've looked? Why, yes! I've looked up all of our Pokedex entries. Why am I not surprised? Anyway, what do you have in mind?
A serious overhaul. AYE! Now, that's what I'm talkin' about! New an' improved an' ready tae bash some haids! I think that this upgrade will serve you well in times to come. Wow, check you out! Wish I could learn moves like that. You just keep doing what you do best, Victor. Monsieur Prometheus, a question, if you please? By all means. Ask away, Frieda. If all of the Oracles are sent to aid Manic...why were you in the egg? The power that stands against Manic can't prevent the Oracle from being sent, but it can make us difficult to get. Creosote was lulled into a coma. Franklin was stranded in a forest. I somehow wound up in an egg. We're not sure how Penelope escaped tampering, but if she knew a trick, it was lost with her. Okay, okay. I get it. Let's focus on the here-and-now. And frankly..Arthur, Hi Jump Kick makes me nervous as hell. Here, use this.
You would have me poison my opponents? If at all possible. The only thing immune to it should be Steel and Poison types, and the former should be easy for you to break through. But milady, poison is dishonorable! You don't say. I do say! Why? I...but...it just is! I think you're harkening back to a time when poison was used to dispatch enemies instead of combat. Well...yes. I suppose I am, at that. But you're not doing that. You're using poison to dispatch enemies as well as combat. It's not like you're going to sneak up, poison them, and run off and wait for them to die. *sigh* Very well. I shall give it a try. Thank you, I appreciate it. Now, I want us to do a little more training before we fight Brycen, so let's get to it.
Oh...oh my goodness...even one or two uses of this...! Harrumph! And so, my squire gets a blade, and I do not. Wow. That's not very knightly behavior, Arthur. C'mon, now. When one of us wins, we all win, right? I predict that this will be a very valuable asset. You are right, of course. My apologies. Well done, you have earned your strength.
Okay, team. Let's review. Prometheus, you're obviously out for this one. Indeed. I would surely meet my end. Victor, you're in the same boat. Man! Striaton, Castelia, Mistralton, Icirrus...even Nimbasa. What is it with gyms and their hatred of grass types? I wish I knew. Jonas, you're fourth place. Neutral resistance to ice, but I bet there's water in there somewhere. Oh, um...okay...I don't really want to get soaked... Frieda, you've got third. You'll resist ice and water, but you aren't packing anything better than neutral-effectiveness attacks. I will be, how you say, the backing up! Maddy, Arthur, I'm going to be leaning on you two to get us through this. Neither of you have an ice weakness, and both of you have something super-effective against it. Ye ain't gotta ask me twice! Lady Manic, I would be honored to stand as your champion! Then c'mon, let's get in there!
Sweet Arceus, how I hate ice! I can scarcely control which direction I'm facing, much less where I go! M-manic? You look strangely c-calm... I'm keeping my focus. The gym wouldn't be constructed in such a way that there wouldn't be a path. I can vouch for this. So, all of this is leading to our goal. It seems chaotic...but it's actually very carefully-structured order. It's just disorienting. Alors, I cannot handle this! Close yuir eyes, lass! Actually, that's a very bad idea. Focusing on a single point helps to maintain your equilibrium and reduce your chances of getting- BLEEEARGH!! -sick.
...and here we are. Okay, team. Status update. ...nauseated. An' low on PP. Would it trouble you greatly if we were to go and be rejuvenated before the conflict? Yeah, that's probably not a bad idea. Il y a une probleme: How will we get back? Wait, is that...? No. Manic, no! Come on, I've been a good sport! I'm...s-sure she won't let anything happen to us...right? It'll be awesome! Here we go!
WOO-HOO!!
(and then we healed and made our way back through - much easier the second time around) (also, didn't use a guide to get through, yay me)
Wait. What? That's it? ... No weird gimmick? No protracted speech before the battle? ...No. Wow. This is actually kind of weird. Pray, milady - as a fellow man of action, may I be allowed to face him in single combat? Yeah, sure. He creeps me out anyway.
Have at thee! Sweet Mew, Arthur! Manaphy's mammaries, he tore through them like they were nothing! Most impressive, I must confess. Impressive indeed. You have earned this. So, uh, what's the deal with the silent act? Skyla and Drayden both talk too much. In time, you will come to long for my style. Oi. Oi, Manic. Hmmm? 'E's a bonnie lad, isn't he? NO. I mean, yes, but still, no!
Take these. Hmmm. You really are stuck on the whole 'economy of words' thing, aren't you? Yes. Holding a conversation with you must be all kinds of interesting. I speak when there is need. Aaaand I'm guessing you don't see a need now. No. Oooookay then! Well. There remains only one thing to say:
AWESOME ICE SLIDE!
Well, yeah. Obviously. Please, elaborate. For one thing, you have much better control of your temper. It's t-true... You also treat Bianca more nicely. Was I mistreating her before? A little. Tell him he's less of a douche! Anything else? You seem a little happier in general. Maybe it was learning that I wasn't this monster like they seem to teach kids these days. Less of a douche! Tell him! That was comforting, yes. Hmmm, your Serperior seems to be trying to tell you something. Less. Of. A. Doooooouche. Yeah, he says he's sorry for being a douche early on. Ah. Think nothing of it, Victor. That's not what I said at all! No, it's better. Now, behave yourself.
I admit, it's a bit of a switch to see you both in one place. Manic, I regret to report that - if something was indeed following you - it's run off. It's okay. I'm...pretty sure it did what it wanted to do. Cheren told me...oh, Manic, I'm so sorry it happened... Hmmmm. *eyes Prometheus* Is there something wrong? Maybe. Maybe not. I just realized that I might be able to get some questions answered. Hey, Prome-
Uh, this is Brycen. He really doesn't talk much. ... ...at all. P-pleased to make your acquaintance? He m-makes me nervous...it's like he's judging us... Well, they say brevity is the soul of wit. In that case, this man must be Mark Twain.
I think something's wrong with him. What on earth are you babbling about? Show yourse- Cheren! Bianca! Go to the center, NOW! Why on earth would I-
...oh. Now, that is troubling. It's those men from before! What do you three want now? Leave. Brycen, wait. These three are trained assassins. I know. I trained them. ...fuck.
I have a mess to clean up. You and me both, Brycen. No. You have your former students to deal with. I have Team Plasma to handle. We both have business there. ...together, then. Together. Il serai d'accord, we are with you all the way. I don't think Jacob could forgive us if we didn't go kick some ass in his name. Another tower...so soon? Really? You can hang back if you want, Jonas. N-no...I just have to...g-get over it, is all! Spoken like a true knight! I'm proud of you, my boy.
Bianca, are you sure about this? N-no...I'm not sure about much anymore. This all seems terribly dangerous, and I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge... You don't have to come if you don't want to. You can stay behind. Why don't I just go as far as the entrance? Maybe I can stand guard! Sounds like a good idea. C'mon, let's go see what they want from me.
