Right then, the training arc has come to a close, so here's my last postgame exclusive Pokemon highlight!
Meet Yolkid! Yolkid Pokedex: Its inner, pink body is weak, so it covers it with a hard eggshell. It rolls around to move.On its own, Yolkid is nothing spectacular. A good shiny, but that's about it. Then I point out that it's similar to Eevee with a 4-way branching evolution. Now it gets more interesting. We'll be looking at those four evolutions today.
To get the full set, you need a Water Stone, a Leaf Stone, a Moon Stone and a Sun Stone. Let's start with the Water Stone branch: The Poison Type Corenom! Corenom Pokedex: The shell attached to its tail can be used for defense. The larger the shell, the more powerful its attacks are.OK, it's a poison type Platypus. Not that it's easy to tell given the sprite. I had to rely on the Pokedex classification. Stat-wise, this Pokemon focuses mostly on its HP, Attack and Defense, creating a decent tank. When looking at its moves, there's a fair amount of stuff in there, mostly Poison and Water moves, but it does pick up a couple of Rock, Dark and even Ghost moves. After that, it turns out that Yolkid learns Shell Smash at Level 41, so sacrificing some defense for offense can create a pretty powerful attacker.
Now for the Leaf Stone branch: the Bug Type Coropper. Coropper Pokedex: Its powerful hind legs allow it to jump to great heights. It can leap over the Sky Pillar in a single bound.Bug Type, leans heavily into Special Attack. I've not got much for this one. The Movepool is mostly Bug Type moves, with a little Grass in there. TM Movepool adds in a lot more coverage, with moves like Air Slash, Mud Bomb, Psychic and Shadow Ball. While Corenom was fairly slow, this one's got a lot more speed behind it. Use Shell Smash for a devastating sweeper.
Use a Moon Stone to get the Ground Type Coraga. Coraga Pokedex: A Pokémon with five different heads. The head covered with a shell is the only one capable of intelligent thought.
You know how I mentioned Corenom would make a good physical tank? That was mainly because its physical Defense was its highest stat, with Attack coming in second. For Coraga, flip that. This one is a physical attacker all the way. As far as moves go, it uses a lot of Ground attacks, with a few Rock and Dragon moves mixed in. Add in TMs and only three additional types come in that are worth a damn: Fire, Dark and Grass, each adding one Physical move to its arsenal. Move Tutors can also add in physical Ghost and Psychic attacks, but again, only one each.
Finally, we use a Sun Stone on Yolkid to get the final branch of the family, the Flying Type Coruda. Coruda Pokedex: It emits light from its body, so its body temperature is always high. The shell on its back is its weak point.
Hoo boy, where do I begin? First off, it get Rock Head for an ability, which pairs especially well with Brave Bird. Like the other branches, it learns Shell Smash as Yolkid, so that makes this Pokemon even stronger. It has a blistering 135 speed alongside 105 and 95 in the attack stats. The catch? This Pokemon has paper thin defenses, with 70 HP, 65 Def. and 60 Special Def. respectively. Movepool mostly consists of Flying moves but it does pick up Heat Wave, which is a nice nod to the Pokedex info. It also learns Roost. Since this game is based more off Gen 3, that effectively makes this Pokemon Typeless for a round. When looking at TMs, it gains access to Dark, Psychic and Ghost moves. All in all, an interesting family, but most people would likely go with Coruda. Recoil-Free Brave Birds can be quite tempting. Next time, I'll go back to basing the highlight corner on what we see in the update. See you then!

Update #12: Mini-Ghetsis 2: Ghetsis Harder
Wow. You've all been doing an awful lot of training! Of course! Training is the best way to stay strong for battle! I'm very pleased that you appreciate the outcome, Sensei. Rex trained extra-hard! I can tell! Okay, team. We've languished here for a month. Then it is time to enter the headquarters. I think so, but I'd like to know what you think, Hideo. Now, we have a fighting chance. Much better than last time. But first...Yuki, while I was working in the department store, I found a TM that I think might suit you.
Here you go. Ah, I am honored. I will use it well. I never had any doubt. Marvelous. You grow more powerful and more beautiful with each passing day. Errrgh... Okay, okay, everyone settle down. We need to get serious. Remember, teamwork will keep us alive.
Sensei Hmmm? What's on your mind, Terry? All those things you told us about those other lives, was that all, uh... He means to ask if it was all real. I can ask my own questions! It's all real. All of it happened. Even the part where Darkrai pulled me into this world. Rrrrrr...Rex doesn't like the dark thing! I don't think anybody does, Rex. I'm just grateful that he opted to revive you, even if it was only here. Losing you...well, let's not talk about that. We should stay focused.
Oh, delightful. You enjoy these things? No, no. I was being sarcastic. They're actually very annoying. Do you want me to go first? It's okay, Ryota. We go as a team. Besides, maybe these are the only slide panels in here.
Maybe not. FFFFFFFffff... Puzzles make me dizzy! Can't we just smash the tiles? Ugh. Graceless ink blot. That's your answer to everything. Remember your lessons. My lessons. Right. Take a moment and learn. The path ahead will take me to the safe tile, and...hmmm. That will take me back out. So will that...ah, I get it! The tile directly to the left! Very good. Continue.
...phew...
Oh, um. Arigato. Anata wa sore o shiyo suru yo ni daishi bajji ga hitsuyo ni narimasu! < You will need the fourth badge to use it! > ...thanks, I'm sure we'll be fine. Interesting. You didn't completely understand that, did you? Something about badges, it's fine. But you understand us, Sensei! That I do. Your sensei's bond with his pokemon has ever been his source of strength. He knows us as no others. So I get a little of what others say...hmm. Well, at least I understand you six! Master, look what I found! Shards, huh? These are usually pretty useful. Good boy, Rex!
Wait. I see what looks like an office in there. Then let's put a stop to them once and for all! I have a better idea. I'm intrigued. Please, share. Even this world seems to follow certain rules. So, if I'm right...
Thought so. He's right where we left him. Rex does not like this man! He's a bad man! He certainly is. Rex, Ryota, I need the two of you on point. You have only to command. Rex will help you beat the bad man! What about the rest of us? Terry, listen. I remember his team. He had a Houndour, a Staryu, a Skarmory straight from the pits of hell, and a Haunter. That was some time ago. Exactly, Yuki. It's a safe bet his team is now Houndoom, Starmie, Skarmory, and Gengar. We have to assume that his Houndoom knows Thunder Fang, too. What is your plan? Rex's attacks will handle the Skarmory or Gengar. Ryota will be able to handle the Houndoom and Starmie. We'll have to be careful of Ice attacks from the Starmie, but Ryota has the best special defense on the team. Nothing will get past me. No, it won't. Especially not once I give you this.
Rex, you lead. If he leads with the Houndoom or Starmie, we switch you out. Any time he switches pokemon, Rex switches back in; we can't give that Skarmory even one round to get set up. Elegant. Outmaneuvering our foes is a fine way to battle. I suppose so. That's boring, though! Don't worry, Terry. There'll be plenty of chances for you to fight. For now...I think it's time we show this guy how strong we've become!
Yeah, you remember me. I remember you, too. Anata wa watashi no honbu de watashi o kogeki suru yuki ga arimasu ka?! < You dare attack me in my headquarters?! > You seem pretty pissed off. Well, guess what? Someone else remembers you too. Rrrrrrrr... Tawagoto. < Shit. >
Okay, useful info gained. He will switch his starting pokemon between encounters. You remember the plan! (Hmm, still not a Starmie, huh? At least that means it'll have shit for HP!)
Those who stand in the way of my duty are destined to fall! Very nice, Ryota! Way to go! Take them down hard! Mmm, most impressive. Now, let's see. There's a 66% chance that his next pokemon will be one for Rex to handle. Let's see if I guess right! Rex, you're up!
Bingo! Gotcha! Heh, yeah! Ember wa, kono-jikan wa jubunde wanaideshou! < Ember will not be enough this time! > Ember? Oh, no. Nothing like that. GrrrRRRrrr...Rex hates stupid metal bird! Rex, would you like to introduce it to your new fire attack?
Watashi no Skarmory! < My Skarmory! > Good job, Rex! Good boy! Rex is happy to help, Master! Now we have a bit of a conundrum, though. We do? He's got a 50/50 shot of sending out a pokemon Rex won't be able to do much against. Think. ...think. Okay. How to see. How to touch. How to...listen! Of course! I don't understand. Ryota, you're up!
How did you know? You heard his reaction to Rex, and to his Skarmory falling. He's not likely to send out a pokemon that's weak to what's already on the field, so... ...so you outmaneuver him yet again by sending Ryota out to greet the new arrival. I see. Ryota, I think it's time for you to get properly set up. Understood.
(after six Curses and a Burn Heal) Ryota, do you think you can handle the remainder of his team? I will give my life in your defense. Not if I can help it. Let me rephrase the question. Can you handle the remainder of his team safely? Let me rephrase the answer.
Yes. Wow. That went a lot more smoothly than last time! And his Haunter hasn't evolved either. He's been slacking! That...that was amazing! I suppose so. Well done. And the best part is, nobody was in any real danger for most of that. I admit, I had begun to worry that our losses meant nothing to you. I know, and I'm sorry. I think I'm beginning to piece some things together. In the meantime...
Get out. Fakku! Okay, it's time I teach you all a gesture. Hold up a...wing, claw, pseudopod, whatever...now extend the middle one. Hmmm. Like this? Right! That's called 'giving someone the finger', but I think it works with other appendages too. Hmmm. It's okay, Ryota. The upward jutting motion is part of it too. Feel free to use a frond or something. Now, let's see if the locals can lend us a hand.
Okay! Relevant information obtained. I do want to make a quick pit stop, though. A...what? Oh, right. Euphamism, sorry. I want to stop off somewhere and try something out. Where? Hazuki Town! We're going all the way back to the beginning?! That we are!
This place seems a lot less threatening. Akio, if you would please... Very well. *flash!*
Hideo, could you stay behind for a moment? I will sit and meditate. Do not forget your lessons. I won't. Hello, Ren. Let's teach you a useful new move!
That...you can't use? Weren't you listening to the man who gave you the HM? Sure! He said - oh, dammit! I see. You just now made the connection. I have three badges, but not the right one, I'm guessing. Correct. All right. Let's go drop Ren off and get Hideo back, and hit Route 520. Looks like we're going to have to come back again later.
... Master? Sensei? Yeah...sorry, just lost in thought for a moment. Sensei, what troubles you? It's nothing, Yuki. I'm fine. Come on, let's keep moving.
And you're not going to give me any guff. Right? Good!
... Sensei... No. Let's not. We must respect his wishes. How can you say that? Have you ever tried to force a flower to grow? Ryota is correct. All in due time, Yuki-san. Well, since this way is blocked off by boulders, I guess we go east.
Oh. Um. She is lovely. No, no doubt about that, it's just, um. Out with it. The place from which I best know Hoothoot is Johto, and they're rather underpowered there. Around here, I have to wonder... Primarily pets, yes. They do not live long in the wild. Thought so. Hmmm, a house!
A creepy house with a creepy woman surrounded by pokemon dolls. We should leave. NOW.
Finally, civilization! Healing! A chance to rest. An opportunity to spend time with Lady Yuki. An opportunity to keep Lady Yuki safe from the advances of lecherous birds. Things to sniff! There is much to learn in this town. I will remain by your side. ...wait. What's going on over there?
Something's wrong here. Hey, buddy. You okay?
Oh, shit! Master! It's all right. We've got this. Hideo, I want you up front. Very well. When you beat an opponent, switch out. Don't wear yourself out. With three of these guys, we need to have staying power. Finally, a chance to fight!
(Poor suckers never knew what hit 'em.)
No, no, it's fine. Stomping D.H chumps is sort of my hobby around here. Do itashimashite. < You're welcome. >
What the fuck is that?
What the fuck is this? Ingrate! If he wants a battle, let's give it to him! For once, I agree with the blob. We rescue him, and he challenges us? Uncouth! Easy, team, easy. Something tells me he's more than he seems, and he's not going to bring a full-fledged challenge. Let's keep our wits about us.
(And the battle was scarcely a challenge at all.)
Okay, seriously, I don't know what you're saying...but you seem apologetic, so you're forgiven. If he tries again, though, I'll rrrrrrr... He won't, I don't think.
Kyle! Manikku... Look, I'm sorry about earlier. Gomen. I understand now what you were trying to do. Wakarimasu. Kin? < Friends? > Kin. It's all good.
(But Arceus, you are still one chatty bitch.)
(Eventually...)
Well, I'm glad that's over. It was fun! I'm just glad we're all safe. There was no real danger. Hmmm. Come to think of it, you're right. Those thugs were underpowered in a bad way; I don't think that guy even needed our help. Sensei? Something's wrong here. I just can't quite put my finger on it. Master, look! Trees! Right, I'm su- wait. Trees without snow. ... Wait a minute. Wait a minute! Is something wrong? Not if I've got this right! The aesthetic, the trees, the signs...
WOO! Safari Zone time!

While I would normally showcase Hideo's evolved form, I have yet to actually showcase his original form. I'll save the evolution for when we see it being used. So here we go with Cuppa! Pokedex: It likes to float by the waterside with most of its body underwater, making itself look like just a white ball.Since we're looking at the unevolved form, I can't really go into much detail on the stats, but there are a few moves that can only be learned as a Cuppa. An interesting point is that these moves are all learned one after the other, between Levels 34 and 55. Bubble Beam, Water Pulse, Flatter and Work Up are simple enough, but there's also Scald and Muddy Water, two very good moves in my opinion. But yeah, I can't think of anything else to cover. See you next time!

Update #13: Cosplay Cross-Up (or) Safari, So Good - vs. Gallade-Man
Ahh, some things never change. Perhaps you would like to take a walk with me in the Safari Zone, Yuki? I'm sure you won't mind if we walk with you. A stroll sounds pleasant, thank you. Honestly, you three...well, while we're in there, we'll need to conserve our steps. Experience suggests that Safari Zones are-
-blocked off?! Master, the Safari Zone in Sinnoh wasn't blocked off! I know! What the hell is this?! Well, that's rude! Do you want it torn down? ...no. Tempting, but no. This might be here for a good reason. Besides, let's not break the law unless we need to. I guess we only get one catch here.
What. The hell. Is- Fast, it seems! Hey! Come back here! Let it go. I wouldn't want to travel with something that looked like that. What have you learned? Uhhhhm... Contemplate this as we travel. If you say so.
Iiiiiiii get it. Huh? Fetch quest time. See, we get the Parcel for the old guy blocking the gym...
Give it to him...here you go...
...and he clears out. Interesting. How did you know? Safari Zones usually have some kind of quest or something you can do that affects the area outside. Since this guy was our major roadblock, makes sense the Parcel would be what he wanted. Master has done this before! Last time, there was a big bomb! It's true. Everything from fake teeth to important HMs to...well, let's skip the history lesson.
Oh, this doesn't look bad at all. I can appreciate the symmetry, at least. Who do we fight first? Well, first, I think we flip a switch. ...no, okay, maybe this other one. Okay, here we go, let's...no, that closed that door...augh, this one is stuck!
(Two hours later...)
I HATE THIS GYM. Rex is tired, Master... Quite complex, isn't it? Take a moment to reflect- No. No moments to reflect. I think I'm starting to get this! The goal is to flip both of the top switches down and have all the other doors closed, I think. So if I flip this one, then go over here, come around, flip that, go through that new door, go back up...
FINALLY! Anata wa watashi ni totatsu suru tame ni yoku yatta. < You have done well to reach me. > Man, I don't know what you're saying, but your gym seriously makes me want to punch you in the dick. Sensei? Hmph. Sorry. That was...one of the most annoying gym puzzles I've ever seen. In any world.
Wait a minute. What the hell? Oh boy! Rex loves these shows! Hmm. I don't get it. What are you wearing? What are you doing?! Don't take him lightly, Sensei! These are some of the fiercest warriors...
...ever to grace television! Are you kidding me? Anata wa otoko o Gallade no ikari o manukareru koto wa dekinai! < You cannot escape the fury of Gallade-Man! > I'm seriously up against a sentai hero? Sight. Sight... ...I see. Very clever. Thanks, Hideo. Master? Dressed like that, it was hard for me to take him seriously. That puts me at a disadvantage. All right, gym leader. Bring out your pokemon!
What the fuck? Sensei, I've heard of these! It looks like a Girafarig on steroids! Oh! Well...yes, basically! Hideo, hang back. If this thing is packing Psychic attacks, and I'm betting it is... I will restrain myself. Rex, you're up! Sic 'em!
Oh! Um. Wow! Good work, Rex! Thank you, Master! *wag* So, Hideo. Pretty sure this is still a Normal gym, would you- Certainly.
Oh, wow. Um, that's pretty convincing, you certainly-
I think he wants more of a show, maybe we should-
HIDEO. Hmmm? You, uh, you can stop now. Oh? You...beat them all (except the one Rex got). In one hit apiece.
No, seriously. He didn't land a single hit.
Deteike! < Get out! > I think we should go...he looks pretty pissed off. Sore loser! Nyeeeeeh! Infant. Hen! Puddle! Lunch! Arceus help me, if you two don't cut it out, I'm going to box both of you and to hell with the consequences! ...sorry, Sensei. Hmph. Akio, you stop baiting him. Terry, you stop rising to the bait! You're both fully evolved and powerful, you should know better. I'm disappointed in both of you. Thank you, Sensei. It's well past time for this. I was on the verge of asking to be boxed. !!! !!! Keep that in mind, you two. Now, let's go. I want to get Ren to use Rock Smash to get us to the next area, but first I want to stop off and see if they're still selling those sweet skateboards.
How did you- You don't even have- All over the shop, there are- You know how to ride a skateboard? No. Then stop complaining about your free bicycle and let's get going.
Hmmm. What's wrong, Sensei? Historically, wooded areas are full of bugs. And bugs like to poison. Thankfully, you have Antidotes. Sure, but not an awful lot. We're going to need to be careful in here.
...huh. There are a lot of walls in the woods, aren't there, Master? You're right. First the Safari Zone, then this. I wonder if it means something. It does. Oh? Like what? Think for a moment. ... ... I've got nothing. It means 'take a different path'. I don't know what I'd do without you. Wiseass. Better to be a wiseass than a dumbass. Hey!
Hey, this one is Strength! Nice! I guess we know where we're going next.
Oh, balls. Ryota, brace yourself! No harm will come to you. I know that, but these things like to explode. Be careful! *smack* *squish* Try now.
...I can't believe that worked. Pineco tend to lose their suicidal tendencies as they get older. You mean... It does not know any selfdestruct-style moves. Damn convenient! I'm glad you're pleased. So, let's- BOOM! GAH! Heh heh. Motherf...fine, let's go!
Huh. So this is the shortcut back to Hazuki Town. Are we going home? No, Terry. That's a shame. It would be nice to see the Professor again! Heh, yeah. Maybe later, okay? What troubles you, Manic? I dunno. I just...I mean, I know that place is supposed to be home, but I don't feel it at all. I see. Then where is home? Right, so, anyway. Route 522, then. Hideo, you're still the highest level... I understand. I will wait in the box.
Thanks, Ren. You're proving to be pretty handy with those HMs! *nod* Anyway, let's see what's past here, shall we?
Oh... What's wrong, Yuki? Oni City...such an ominous name. I don't understand. The closest equivalent in your language to Oni is 'demon'. So this place is named Demon City? Seriously? Yes, and I find it disturbing. There is nothing to fear. Stay nearby. Oh! I will, Ryota. Thank you. Hmph. It'll be okay, Yuki! Ryota will take good care of you! I just wish I could do it. You do a fine job. Let's focus on the path ahead. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Anything useful in here? ...no? ...okay then...
Kyle! Good to see you again.
Team D.H again? Are you kidding me?! More beating up the bad guys works for me! Seriously, though. I swear, every few steps, it seems like we find these guys. What's up with that? How did they become so ubiquitous? Manikku? Huh? Oh, sorry, Kyle. What's up?
Um, Kyle? This might not be such a good idea. Tada yasashi tatakai! < Just a friendly battle! > No, really, my team's kinda overleveled at the moment. Mo donimo tomaranai! < Too late to stop now! > Okay...well, you asked for it!
(This went about how you would expect.)
Sore wa anata ga tsuyoku natte iru koto o yoikotoda! Wareware wa,-go de futatabi tatakau yo! < It's good that you're getting stronger! We'll fight again later! > Uh, right! See you around! Kyle is nice. Yeah, I guess he's okay. I did try to warn him...ah, nevermind. Let's see what's in-
Yeah, no. Afraid? It's called Doom Tower, Akio. Really, I'm more insulted than afraid. I see. I mean, I feel like a cardboard cutout monster will 'jump' out at me. Come on, let's go get Hideo and see what the local gym is like.
Okay, team. We don't know what to expect in there, so be careful. Switch if you need to. No unfavorable matchups. We know, we know! Let's go kick some butt already! Patience, young one. Learn from your sensei. ...sorry, Sensei... It's fine. Everyone will get a chance to fight. Just like before, we're going to use the gym trainers to get a feel for the gym's level and element.
(Later...)
...well. I wish there were some stronger enemies! These will do nicely. That wasn't at all what I expected. What have you learned? By the looks of it, there are two gym leaders in there. Worse, I think they use different elements; one is Flying, the other is Grass. Very good. Needless to say, Hideo, you're out of this one. No one else takes super-effective damage from grass or flying, but you know they've got more than that going on. What do we do now, Master? ...we grind. Just a little. I think level 50 should be enough for this gym; I don't want to steamroll it like the last one, that guy was pretty angry.

Update #14: Paradigm Shift - vs. Kat & Ana
Very nice, Rex! Rex was getting tired of little hits!
(Later...)
Okay, team. We're level 50. Considering how thoroughly we stomped the last gym, 50 should be fine here. Are you certain of that? Well, no. But if 45 was way too strong for the last gym, 50 should be fine for this gym. Any chance to fight a strong opponent is okay with me! As ever, I remain by your side. Besides, the trainers were in the mid-to-low 30s, right? So the leaders should be in the very low 40s. Even with a double battle, we'll be fine.
Thank goodness I managed to solve this puzzle beforehand. While using a lot of words I don't know! Er, yeah. Anyway, once I figured out that talking to the pokemon changed the conveyor belts, it was easy.
Huh. You actually seem to be fairly normal people. Their style of dress is simple, but well-done. I approve. I wish I could tell what they were saying. Perhaps you can. No...I mean, I get body language and I can glean a few words, but apart from that, it's nothing I can grasp.
All right then, since you seem ready, let's get started! Terry, Yuki, you're up!
(missing screenshot of Sludge Bomb taking out the grass bowl thing in one hit)
Yuki, you'd better get back. I should've known this gym would try to bait out an Ice type! I understand. Please, be careful! Ryota, you've got the best defense on the team. Let me get you out here to get set up! Of course. I am at your disposal.
Heh heh... I don't like that laugh one bit. Ryota, change of plans. I want you to Rock Slide as soon as possible. Togekiss! Ora-kyu! Terry. I pass my responsibility to you. I don't understand... My duty to protect the rest of the team is yours now. Don't worry! I'll take the attack for you! You can't. Don't forget:
Aura Sphere...never...misses...
NO! RYOTA! R-Ryota... *gasp!* Wakarimasen... < I don't understand... > Get away from Rex's friend! I can't believe...how could you?! Look. They're...I see. No, a Revive won't work. Naze, kono shigoto wa shinai nodesu ka? < Why doesn't this work? > Put it away. Rex, can you absorb an Aura Sphere? RRRRrrrr...Rex will try, Master! Good. Then torch that Skarmory!
(Missing screenshot of Rex torching the Skarmory - clearly, I'm at the top of my game here)
Well done, Rex. Hideo...I need you in here. Then you intend to- Yes. It seems eminently fair to me. Cradily! Chikyu o ho! Uhm, team? A little help here? I'm sorry, Sensei. Rex has never heard of this!
Arceus help us! It's a ground attack! Terry! You must listen closely. Move with the ground. Let the shock waves flow through and past you! I'll try! I know...I can survive this!
Togekiss! Psyburn! Oh, now what the hell is a Psyburn?! It appears to be - aaaagh! - a very powerful psychic attack. Hideo-sama! Hideo! So help me...here, a Lemonade isn't going to be enough! Terry, I need you to sacrifice your turn for this! Take it!
*cough* That was foolish. You're welcome. Heh. Very good. And now that I am healthy? My plan hasn't changed. Hideo, that Cradily is getting on my last nerve. Would you-
-yes, that. We have one foe remaining. Do not let your guard down. Togekiss! Psyburn! Again?! Don't worry! I'll protect you! I have to keep my promise! You will not. I can withstand the attack, but you can not. Be calm. Sensei! If he says he can withstand it, he can. Hideo has never given me cause to distrust his judgment. Stand aside, Terry. Rrrrgh...
Damn it...I don't think a Lemonade will bring you back up to full! Sensei, what will we do?! Okay. A moment of stillness. It's safe to assume that she's going to have it use Psyburn again. Neither one of them would survive. Akio! No, Yuki. He's cruel, but he's right. Sensei, how can we survive?
I have a plan. Oh boy! Master makes the best plans! Ryota might disagree... Terry, I want you to use Surf. Hideo, use Aura Sphere. I see. I approve. Have you gone mad? When Surf hits Hideo... Sensei, I have to agree! This is dangerous! Hideo's resistance might not be enough! Master...? No, it's a good plan. Let's do it! Hideo, you strike first; if you don't eliminate it, I'll Surf! Sensei, no! Yuki, listen! Hideo has Water Absorb! Between the two attacks, they should take down the Togekiss...and even if they don't, Surf should heal Hideo!
...or, it might not matter anyway.
G-gomen... It's...it's okay. It's pretty obvious you didn't know. Rex doesn't feel like celebrating... Ryota-sama... It was not his time. He was...useful. I am sorry that he's gone.
I'm so sorry. I didn't realize...and even so, his defense... We know you didn't mean to, Sensei. Such madness. I could have trained us to a higher level. I wasn't prepared for such a spike! Master... Come on. We need to do the right thing.
Ryota. You were a true, faithful ally. Your sense of duty was unshakeable, and you even got in a few laughs. I'm so sorry...this shouldn't have happened. I suppose that such things are inevitable. Could you all give me a little time alone? Sensei? Sensei, where are you going? Sensei! No, Terry. Let him go. But he needs us! I don't understand. No one has held him responsible. Even if he's right, even if he should have trained us more, no one has said a word. We've all forgiven him. Not true. This is not a time for riddles, old man. Who among us hasn't forgiven Manic?
The one whose forgiveness he needs most.

Right then, time for a two update highlight. Let's start with Hideo's evolved form, Kapwondo. Kapwondo Pokedex: The secret technique behind its strength is that it twists its waist around whenever it launches an attack. From pure Water to Water/Fighting, this Pokemon has a stat total of 480, with 70 points for HP and Speed at the lower end, while its Special Attack takes the crown at 95. It gets some fun moves though. At Level 34 it gets Aura Sphere and a move called Magnum Punch at Level 55 (10% chance to flinch or lower defense). It even gains Psychic, Dark and Rock coverage via TMs. That's just a few options for this Pokemon.
Next, Gallade-Man. Also known as Avery, from Average. He's a Normal Type Gym Leader. Here's his Girafarig evolution, Folifarig. Folifarig Pokedex: This Pokémon slowly distorts the space around it. Its tail feeds on the essence of darkness and shadows.
This Pokemon is a special sweeper. No ifs, ands or buts. 130 Special Attack, 95 Speed, 75 and 85 for the Defenses, it can even take a hit or two. Its moveset is no slouch either. Signal Beam, Energy Ball, Psychic, Tri Attack, Shadow Ball, Discharge, Hydro Pump and Power Gem. The only thing limiting it is that all that coverage is done through means other than Level Up.
Of course, there's also Kat and Ana, otherwise known as Chie and Rito, or originally as Dou and Mei (Doumei meaning Alliance). These two are unique, given one of them specialises in Flying, while the other takes Grass. Their unique Fakemon is the "Grass Bowl thing", the Grass/Water type Serplant! Serplant Pokedex: This Pokémon's leafy body constantly releases a sweet smell with the ability to calm hearts and clear minds.
OK, I'm guessing the level difference helped out immensely here, as this thing's defenses are 120 and 110 respectively. Its regarded as one of the best bulky Pokemon in the game, and I'm starting to see why. It learns some top-tier status moves (Toxic, Synthesis, Iron Defense, Amnesia, etc.) and is still capable of attacking off of an 85 point Special Attack stat. The line also gets Water Absorb. As a fun side note, it's got a pre-evolution, Snalo (Snake/Aloe?). I'll put the sprite in this post as well. Snalo Pokedex: It is a popular choice of Pokémon amongst office workers due to its power to quickly and efficiently relieve stress.
Anyway, see you next time! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the run this month!

Update #15: Exploration
The others are worried about you. ...I know. May I sit? Yeah. Okay. Tell me. What do you see?
Nothing. I don't see anything. It's just rocks and grass and snow and dirt and sky. Is that all? Yes, that's all! What am I supposed to see? ...you are one boy, but you are also five more, correct? That depends on how you mean. You started out as one boy. You are that boy again, but with the memory of five others. Then yes, that's true. I am worried about you as well. ... ...maybe you're right to be worried. Tell me. Why are you doing this? I don't understand. Doing what, exactly?
At first, you fought for justice. Then, you fought five times over to become whole. Why do you fight now? I don't understand the question. I think that you do. ... ... Let it go, Hideo. I cannot. I have to defeat Darkrai, okay? If he wins, he'll get enough power to chase Cresselia away. If that happens, all of my friends will be trapped in a world where Darkrai has absolute control. If they're lucky, they'll die quickly. Is that all? Isn't it enough?! Answer me honestly.
Okay, fine! You want the truth?! Always. This is all I know, okay?! Before I became a trainer, everything was fucked up beyond compare. There were these crazy groups trying to destroy the world, and the champion was a nutcase, and nothing worked right. And... And then I became a trainer. And I fixed things. I made things right. Then I got split up, but every time, it was the same. Become a trainer, become the champion, solve the problems. The world made sense because I made it make sense. Then you can do nothing else? What else is there, Hideo?! My life was a disaster before I became a trainer. Now...I'm just one more world away from fixing things. I asked you a question earlier, and you did not answer. Huh? Which one? Where is home, Manic? I...Hoenn, of course. So you can return there, to your life. ... ...probably not...
Where is home, Manic? Surely not one of the forged worlds. What? No, of course not. And it's not here, that's for sure. Where- I don't know, okay?! I don't know where home is. I don't even think...I have one. Then, should you succeed... No. I don't know where I'll go, or what I'll do. I really don't, and it chills me to the bone. I understand. Do you really? When you say that you fight to save your friends, you speak truly...but on a deeper level, you fight for control. In a life constantly wrenched from your grasp, you cling to the only thing you can understand, the only thing that has made things right for you. Even with the pain it brings, it is the only comfort you have. ... ... I'll be back in a little while. Very well. Thank you for talking to me.
(Later...)
All right, team. That place is crawling with D.H. Rrrrrr... Easy, Rex. Before we go in, we need to...choose a new teammate. Hmph. I suppose so. I had to do some thinking about this; I considered a couple of different candidates, but the one I came up with is:
You have chosen well. Welcome to the team! I am- I know who you are. I know who all of you are. Oh! Hisao. Let's all be very clear: I'm in this for the food, the money, and the power. I don't know you and I don't want to. Somehow, I don't think that will be a problem. Master, Rex doesn't like this new teammate! I'll let you know if I start to care. Hand me the Exp Share, I want to see how you work. Well. Um. You heard him...here you go. You all could use a little training anyway. I'll keep an eye on you.
You should be training with the others. Rex is worried about you, Master. So I hear. Are you angry? Have we been bad? What? No! Come here and sit with me. ... Hideo and I had a long talk. Uh huh. He made me think of some things I'd really rather not. Was he mean to you? No, no. He was just honest, like usual. I think...maybe there's more wrong with me than I realized. *whine* Rex wants to help! It's okay, it's okay. I'll be okay. I just need to get my head back in the game. And you should go train with the others, too! Okay! Rex loves you, Master! Heh heh...love you too, Rex. Crazy Houndoom.
(Eventually...)
It was nice of the leaders to offer to pay for a burial spot for Ryota. It's the least they could do! Trust me, Terry. They could do a lot less. Most leaders do. First, we must cleanse this place. Allow me to begin. Sure, you can take point, Akio. So long as I get paid, I couldn't care less. Go to work. ...hmm.
This place is a lot bigger than I realized! We'll fight up to heaven itself if we have to! You've got that right. They can send a hundred D.H after us, we'll beat them all. Especially if they're this weak. This is embarrassing. Don't complain. Easy fights mean no danger. You'd know all about that, wouldn't you? Are you trying to imply something? Because that would be a very bad idea. Okay, okay. Settle down. Hasao has a point; if the fights are easy, we just get through them that much faster. Let's keep going, there's a lot more where this came from.
Seriously? Seventh floor and no sign of stopping... If it's...all the same...to you... Sure, sure, it's fine. You've done well, Akio. Yuki, will you take over? Certainly. I could use some practice! Just switch out if you encounter something you can't-
Stand back. Whoah. So this thing has a third form, huh? Impressive. True, but one Aura Sphere will lay it low. Still Dark/Steel. In a place like this, double weaknesses are practically asking for it, aren't they? The world is a harsh and unforgiving place, but you would know that better than most. Ahem. Thanks for the help, Hideo. Yuki, you're back up. Arigato, Hideo.
Well, this seems familiar. Nani? Some nutjob standing in front of a mystical glyph-circle. You're not half the man N is, though. ...
Professor?! What are you doing here?! Watashi wa anata ni chekku suru yo ni narimashita! < I came to check on you! > Well, whatever it is, your timing is terrible! This place is overrun, can't you tell? Kega wanai ka? < Are you all right? > Stay behind me, Professor. These guys are serious business. Let me and my pokemon handle- Koko kara deru, panku! < Get out of here, punk! >
Anata ga matawa D.H matawa B.H o W.Hte irunara, watashi wa watashi ga okoru mae ni nokoshite, kinishinai! < I don't care if you're D.H or B.H or W.H, leave before I get angry! > Uh, Professor? These guys are for real, maybe you shouldn't yell at them?
I have absolutely no idea how you did that. Watashi wa monogoto ga seigyo-ka ni aru koto ga wakarimasu. Umaku naru! < I see that things are under control. Be well! > ...what the hell just happened? The professor is a great man! Great enough to scare off a D.H admin, apparently. Is he your boss? No, no, nothing like that. Well, anyway, I guess we'd better finish looking around.
WOO! I never thought I'd be happy to see a Cut HM! Hooray! Who gets to use it, Master? Hmmm. For the moment, no one. Let's finish up here first, I doubt we'll encounter any trees here.
Nothing's happening. They seem to have failed in their mission. So we came up here for nothing. Not at all. We took down a lot of their trainers, got the new HM, and even might have been responsible for them not finishing what they were doing. How fortuitous. I wonder what they were doing, anyway? Maffter! Doeff diff helf? Let me see that, Rex. Looks like a pamphlet-
Okay, I can't read this, but I know that image. Someone help me out here. "Working toward the revival of our dark lord, Darkrai for the last fifty years-" Revival? That would suggest- Sensei, you said he was weakened, right? Well, yes. Maybe they just think he's dead? That would explain it. So they're trying to help him come back! Help. Darkrai- of course! D.H! Sensei? Darkrai's Helpers! Now more than ever, it's imperative that we stop these guys! For now, let's get out of here and see if Cut gets us any closer to our answers.
Let's see what's behind door number 1.
Hello. Yokoso! < Welcome! > Uh, right! Yokoso to you too. So, what're you doing hiding back here? Te o kashimashou ka? < Do you need my help? > Hey, what're you doing with-
Wait a minute, you're- oh, hell yeah! I could hug you! Uhhhh... Sorry, sorry! But yeah, I want your help. Just name your price!
Rex is more ver-sa-tile now! An interesting new attack. I will use it with pride, Sensei. Glad to hear it! Now, let me pay the man, and we'll see what else we can uncover.
A useful TM and a second Lucky Egg? Things are looking up! Not bad, not bad. You've got an eye for these things. Master... It's all right. It's true, Hisao; I'm a decent treasure hunter. I mostly shine in combat, though. Good, then you won't be underfoot when it's my turn. Hmph. Compared to this lout, I'm positively humble! Let me borrow that Rock TM for a moment. No! Whatever. And now, the piece de resistance, north of Route 502!
YES. Please tell me you aren't seriously considering me for this. Huh? Of course not. Your forte is special attacks. Thank you. It would be wasted on you. Well. I don't think I'd put it quite like that. No, really. You wouldn't know how to use it properly. I certainly know how to specialize, but that doesn't mean- I'll wait for someone else to come along. Just relax, I understand your limitations. WELL then. I'll just keep that in mind. Sensei? Why- I've been waiting for months to do that. *giggle!*
A new city! And a new gym, and all that goes with it! New battles, too! In a bit, Terry. I think we're all tired from the trip. I could use a rest, certainly. Tired? Nonsense. I could keep going all day. Hisao, you're panting. Let's all go to the center and relax for a little while.
(After a couple of hours...)
Okay. What have we learned? That leftovers are tasty! Try again. That this town needs Diglett-proofing. No. Well, yes, but that's not what I mean. Not to pre-judge. ...close, and yet, the opposite. That the town is huge and the people are crazy. Can we go now? Bingo! Hisao's got it.
Kyle! Ah...yujin! Manikku! Sore wa anata o miru koto wa yoidesu! < Manic! It is good to see you! > Er, yeah! So, what's all this? Chimu D.H wa, sono besu to shite kono tatemono o shiyo shite imasu! < Team D.H is using this building as their base! > Buddy, I didn't catch most of that, but I heard D.H and I'm guessing they're inside. Shall we go kick their butts?
Oh, I see. You'd rather...
Kuso... < Damn... > Yeah, I could've told you this would happen. (And it did. In one hit.)
Watashi wa anata ni o makase shimasu! < I'll leave it to you! > Wait, did he just- He sure did! More fighting for us! I may never understand that guy. Are we going in, then?
Yeah, no. Something tells me we have training to do, first.

Alright then, two Pokemon to highlight this time: Hisao and the fully evolved Grass starter. Rynos Pokedex: Its clawed forearms can rotate freely on their joints. This helps it burrow through the ground faster and deeper. This is one of those Pokemon that learns a really good move provided you level it up while stopping it from evolving. In this case, it learns Earthquake at Level 49, but evolves at 40. Its evolution cannot learn Earthquake at all.
Now for the Grass starter's final form, Syleafid. Syleafid Pokedex: The leaf on its tail is just as sharp as the leaves on its back. Its leaves can cut through even solid steel.According to the Wiki I've been using, this is the Glass Cannon for the starters. 115 Speed, 103 Special Attack and 75 in each defense. It learns some decent special moves too. Energy Ball at Level 36 and a move called Typhoon (Which I'll cover in a moment because Holy Crap) through the relearner. Through TMs, it gets coverage with Ground, Rock, Fighting, and Dragon moves while Tutors can add in Bug, Dark and Water. It can also get Thick Fat, which is very useful, given its Grass/Flying typing.
But yeah, that move I mentioned: Typhoon. 120 Power, 100 Accuracy, Flying Type. Deals damage, then has a 70% chance to do each of the following: - Sharply raise the user's Defense.
- Harshly lower the user's Sp. Atk.
- Raise the user's Sp. Def.
- Lower the user's Speed.
- Harshly lower the user's accuracy.
That's a 70% chance each for those points. Seems more trouble than it's worth or as a big move to pair with a Power Herb, if that even exists in this game.

And here we start to see the full brunt of the weight that Manic carries. Where he starts to sound like a soldier that's seen one too many battles. His soul already has aged far beyond that of his body. And it just gets worse from here.

Update #16: Catastrophe - vs. Old Navy
A Nidorino... Sensei? Remembering the fallen, hmm? What? No. I mean, yes, but that's not it. So soon, you have forgotten his stories. Ohhh... All right, wise old man, enlighten me. His self-awareness. Ah, of course... Master is remembering- Nevermind. This isn't Mike. This is someone new, and he deserves his own time...but not now.
It's adorable! It's electric. Ugh. It's weak. I hate to say it, but Hisao is right. Those stats are...well, let's just say that bringing it with us would be sadistic. Into the box, little guy. RRRRRrrrr... Rex, down.
Aww, it's cute. Master, can we play too?! Sure thing, Rex...but not right now, okay? We have things to take care of first. Okay! What do you have in mind, Sensei? We need to train. After last gym, I don't plan to get caught unawares again.
Then why are we here now? Scouting. We're gathering intelligence. The levels of the gym trainers will help to guide us. Hmm. Don't worry, Hideo. I remember last time. I've changed my expectations to compensate. For now, let's go in and see what's waiting for us.
Huh. That's sort of familiar. Sensei? Oh, right. Remember the story of Johto? This is a lot like Morty's gym, except that the lights start out gone. I'll wait for you out here. What? Why? I like to know where the ground is under me, okay? Hmph! You're afraid, you mean! Terry, stop. Hmm. But Sensei, he won't be any help back here! He's a Ground type. It's natural that he should want to know where he is. Let him remain here, we'll be all right. Don't think this changes anything. Never.
What the hell are these things? Offensive. That one looks like a Mienshao and a Girafarig had a child, that one looks like a Bidoof ate a Psyduck, and that one...that one's just disturbing. You seem troubled. I am. I don't like this one bit. Team, we're training to 60 and that's that. All right! Ugh. 60, for these rejects? Do you remember how I lost Creosote? ...60 it is, then. But first, let's clear a path to the gym leader.
Ugh, finally. She was a nice lady! I swear, these gyms...thank goodness I thought to talk to her again after I beat her, so she would open the path. You fell dozens of times. Well, yes, but- But you stood up one more time than you fell down. Right. For now, we'll go train and come back later.
Ahhhh. Much better. Congratulations, you've proven me wrong. Hmm? I honestly thought you couldn't get any uglier. I'm impressed. Control your bird's beak, or I won't be held responsible. Akio, stop. Seriously. Hmph. There will come a time when your command won't be enough. We'll burn that bridge when we come to it. In the meantime...
You can't seriously be consi- I'm not. Excellent. This will serve me well. Ahh, my ultimate psychic attack. At long last. A series of welcome changes! Sensei, look! Oh, great. D.H are being dicks...wait a minute. What's he doing with the Cherrim-looking thing? Master, I don't think it likes him! Oh hell no, I know you aren't kidnapping pokemon in front of me! Let's move, team! This wasn't in my contract. We'll renegotiate later! Come on!
Okay, you can't understand me and I can't understand you, so I'm going to make this simple. The pokemon. Give it to me. Now. Hah! Nyeeeeeh! Did you...did you just stick out your tongue at me? Nani?
Try to think happy thoughts, because this is really going to hurt.
(I hear he eats through a tube now.)
Easy, now, easy. Shhh. It'll be all right. Come on, let's go find your owner again. Master will fix it! Is he always like this? Yes. Helping people is what he does. Get used to it. Defending the weak is what we're all about! That and fighting really great battles! There is more reason than that, but he speaks his truth: that is why Terry fights.
Arigato, arigato! < Thank you, thank you! > Oh! You're very welcome. Let's see here... Dragon Rush? Don't even think about it. I wouldn't, don't worry, but we can still accept the gift graciously.
(Finally, after so very much training...)
All right, team. We're about as ready as we're likely to get. I'm expecting low fifties here. Rex, with our only Dark attack, you've got point here. This is clearly a Ghost gym. Awww, that's boring! Don't worry, Terry. I'll try to get you some of the action. Also, Rex, wear these. Rex will pierce the heavens! Who the hell do you think Rex is? Heh heh. Nice. I know you will, Rex. Now, let's get in there! And be careful, okay? I suppose I have to come with you this time. That you do. Besides, we know the path this time; just follow us and you won't fall.
Right. So, uh, hi there. Manic. Hmmm? Be wary. Ghosts are devious, and most of my attacks cannot affect them. I know, Hideo. I'll be careful, don't worry. Don't be afraid! Rex will win for us! Heh, you can't argue with that, can you?
Wow. Casual wear to a battle, huh?
Hey, I remember this thing! That's good news for us! Rex will drop it in a single hit! Hmmm. No, Rex. Hold off. Master? I want you to max out Nasty Plot. Don't worry, I'll keep you healthy. When you're well and done... Rex understands!
Hmmm. Well, you're done, but you're not well. Sorry, Master! It's okay. We'll heal you up in the next battle and you can Crunch your way through. Sensei? Hmmm? Why did you boost with Nasty Plot? Isn't it obvious? I believe he is asking why you boosted Rex's special attack if you were going to use Crunch. I may have an answer for you momentarily.
One quick heal and...bingo! I still don't understand, Sensei! Wait for it...
That. That's why. Very good. Sensei? I'm pretty sure that thing is Ghost/Fighting. That'll nullify the advantage of using Dark. Add in Intimidate, and Crunch won't do the trick. Master? Rex, use Flamethrower! Heh heh. Focus Band! Focus Band? Sweet Arceus...at least it only has a 10% chance of activating. ... ... ... Hi Jump Kick! no...
N-no...not again... Rex-sama... How could this happen? We did nothing wrong! Wow. The odds on that are stupid-low. For Focus Band to work, then Hi Jump Kick to connect. That...is...ENOUGH! Akio?
You and your cohorts have murdered enough of my teammates! DIE! I see. Rex...Arceus, please, no... Sensei. How can any just deity allow this to happen? Sensei. Yuki, give me a moment! We do not have a moment. I will handle this.
Dark spirit, begone! I will banish you back to the netherworld! Yuki, be careful! I am weak to neither Dark nor Ghost. I will be fine. Anger Burn! ...wait, what? 'Anger Burn'? That sounds like a-
- fire attack! YUKI! Hah! Anger Burn! I suppose this time came sooner than I expected. Akio, what are you doing?! Get back! No. Akio? I am Akio, Airvoyant. The winds fill my wings, and I know what you cannot perceive: whatever lives you claim today-
You will not...claim lady...Yuki's... AKIO! Arceus, no, it's all going to pieces! Manic! Regain your focus! I'm trying, I'm trying! You...
Today, you have taken two of my friends from me. You want to reach into my mind? Feel what I feel!
Darn it! We won, but the cost was so high... Such senseless loss of life. It should have been me. Hmmm. Do you still require my services? BE SILENT. *gulp* Oh, Sensei... ... ...
I...I remember...something that seems...appropriate. Hmmm? Into the arms of Mew, I commit thee. Into the annals of time, I commit thee. Our bond unbroken. Our life together ended, our hearts forever one. May the gates of heaven open before you. It is lovely. I am sure they would have appreciated it. Spoken in your time of greatest pain. I am...sorry for your loss. I'm sorry. I just need to sleep this off.
I'm not sure this is better than before! What was before? There was a time, before you joined the team, when Sensei did not seem particularly troubled at all by deaths on the team. Truly? Truly! But now, they devastate him. We know that his bond to Rex transcends this world, and Akio was with us from the beginning... No. This is better. He must have felt the pain before, but held it inside. Hideo-senpai? What do you think? I think that Manic was brought to this world with the express purpose of breaking him. We know that, but- I think it is starting to work.

OK, quite a few new ones this time around. Going in order of appearance, and that means we're starting with Plasmox. Plasmox Pokedex: It enjoys generating electricity. Many people use one as a power source for their homes. It's part of a two stage line. Since I can't remember if we see the evolution (Known as Blitzune), I'll base my highlight on the line as a whole. For moves, this is a line with a highly diverse movepool, to the point where I would likely have an easier time listing move types it doesn't have access to, but even then, I'd have to cross types off a list and see what's left. Statwise, it's nothing to write home about. It's one of those Pokemon that would have probably been a better pick if it was available in the first half of the game instead of the second half. It also evolves via Thunderstone so there's that. In those sequel hacks, this line also gains the Fairy type. Neat!
Next came the Mienshao/Girafarig hybrid-thing, otherwise known as Hantama. Hantama Pokedex: It can move through solid matter. It is skilled at hunting prey by hiding in the ground or dropping through the ceiling.OK, love the shiny, but this things classification irks me. The Half-Ghost Pokemon. How is that a thing? That aside, Ghost/Fighting (A type that wouldn't be seen officially until Marshadow) alongside Intimidate or Keen Eye for the abilities. Not bad. Like with most Gen 5 Pokemon, you're mostly going to get Normal and STAB moves by level up, while a lot of your type coverage is going to come through TMs, Tutors and Breeding. As for its stats, things are shaky. This is a glass cannon Pokemon in every sense of the word. High attack and speed (115 and 95) but its defenses are sorely lacking (70 and 50). It also doesn't get any Ghost Type priority moves. As a design note, this does appear to take Schrodinger's Cat as a concept, being both alive and dead. It's also based on Onna Kabuki, or Women's Kabuki. As you can see, there's quite a bit I can point out here.
Let's see, we've already showcased Jarmit when I covered the Clotaku line, so next up is Necrosia. Necrosia Pokedex: It can easily cut through prey with the sickle attached to its lower body. Don't get too close to it in the wild.Ow. The edge. Anyway, this Pokemon's a bit of a shock, considering it evolves directly from this: Regardless, it's noted to have nine eyes (Two are on it's back) and possibly two mouths. It's Ghost/Dark and picks up Levitate and Pressure for abilities, so that's pretty useful. It's also a decent bit stronger than Hantama, with better attack, speed and some serviceable defenses. Same as usual, it has a lot of coverage through TMs as well. As for Anger Burn, I'm guessing that move is now called Raging Flame, since it's the closest thing I can find. It's powerful, but has a 10% chance to confuse the user.
Finally, there's Hisao's new form, Feroceros. Ferocero's Pokedex: Its body is so hard and tough that even the latest in weapons technology is powerless against it.
This thing is slow as molasses (39 base speed) but it more than makes up for it with its other stats. Its second lowest stat is Special Attack at 75, and everything else ranges from 80 to 111. It also changes from pure Ground to Steel/Ground. As I've mentioned when we looked at Rynos, Feroceros doesn't learn Earthquake unless you learn it before evolving. This, unfortunately, means that the strongest physical Ground moves available to it are Dig and Bulldoze. It does get some great Steel Type attacks though, alongside a crapton of TM coverage.
As for the Gym Leader, his name is Fenton/Sazanka and his Gym is the Ravenplume Gym. Curiously, he mentions the second badge in his defeated quotes. Here, someone as cool as you deserves this Hadar Badge. All right, you're worthy of carrying the Arneb Badge! If you have the Hadar Badge, your Pokemon will speed up... That is, their Speed stats will increase. Also, you'll be able to use Fly outside of battle.
That's an unedited quote. Weird.
And there we have it for this update. Four new Fakemon, and two of them (Necrosia and Hantama) actually keep their Japanese names. As an additional note, Plasmox and Feroceros are changed from Plasun and Metageras respectively. Now if ypu'll excuse me, I'm going to go back and add in dividing lines in the other highlights. Gonna make the sections a tad clearer.

In some ways, I consider Rex's second death to be the saddest in the whole series. Manic's had a fallen friend come back before, but unlike Dana, Rex gets torn away *again* in a manner that couldn't have been crueler had Darkrai planned it that way.

Annnnnnd, there it is. Rex ;( I had just lost a dog when I first read through this run, and it had me reduced to tears. It's still something that hurts ;( ;( Losing a close companion is always hard...

It feels neat to be able to re-read these series in real time, as they are posted.

Update #17: Tomfoolery
All right. Iwao, Nobuo, I'm not going to lie to you. It's pretty nasty out here. You two are here because two valued teammates have been lost. It's going to take a lot of training to get you up to speed, and even then, it'll be dangerous. We are aware. The pokemon in the PC tell such stories...but they don't do you credit! Oh? Well, thank you, I- What? Not you. Uhm? Hideo-sama, the stories that are told of you are awe-inspiring! Please, take me as your protege! We will see. But- Be patient. It is more than a 'no'. Well, uh, I'm glad we got that sorted out. Or not, whatever. The first order of business is to get both of you trained!
Why are we here? Sensei has us train with these people! That's how we got so powerful! Hmph. You 'hmph' now, but these trainers will whip you into shape in a hurry. If a whip so much as touches my hide, I will wear yours. Whoah, easy! It's a figure of speech. Sorry, non-native here. They'll train you well.
(And, after hours of fighting...)
You speak...the truth. They are...most formidable...opponents. Sensei would not bring you here if this place were not ideal. You seem to respect him. That may be exaggerating the point. He has my obedience. Sensei has taught me all sorts of things! Sensei Hideo, what do you think? Manic is, as all of us are, imperfect. That said, I follow him of my own free will. Good enough for me! You know, I'm right here. Yes, you are. ...right. Anyway, I grabbed this out of storage, to celebrate you hitting level 60.
Catch! What? I-
Why did you give me the stone? It'll vastly improve your odds of survival. Then you haven't yet noticed. That you don't particularly like me? No, that's pretty obvious. ...interesting. It's a shame that you don't like me, but that doesn't mean I want you dead. Now, let's finish your training and get to Nobuo. Er, after we fix your move pool. And what is wrong with my attacks? You still know Horn Attack, Iwao. Don't think I haven't been watching your progression. Here, take this, and this, and...hmm. This.
These are rare. Probably, yeah. You cannot buy my friendship. Wouldn't dream of it. Very impressive - now if you just learn some respect for Sensei, you'll be all set! I will admit, I have had worse than Manic as an employer. We'll see. Right. Now, Nobuo...I have a special plan for you.
Sensei, are you sure? They're the vitamin that will benefit him most. Nobuo, eat these. Sensei? Hmmm? No, no. Sensei Hideo! I do not believe that Manic will make decisions that will be against your best interests. Do as you are told. Yes, Sensei! Well, THAT certainly won't get old... Okay, Nobuo. I have another special surprise in store for you. You're going to train somewhere else. Somewhere else? Why? Because I'm going to introduce you to something called EV training. There's a Hitmonlee just waiting to be your training partner.
(And, with the passing of YET MORE TIME...)
Sensei, I did it! I evolved! Now will you take me as your student? The body is only one facet of your training, Nobuo. ...what do you mean? The true battlefield is in your heart, your mind, your spirit. You must learn discipline and focus. Teach me, Sensei! We will see. I knew he'd say that. Now, back to training, there's still a lot left to do!
(Did I mention all the training? Because there was lots of training. A whole lot.)
Okay, team. We're pretty well set. Next stop, the mansion! I'm ready for any opponent! Bring them on! Calm yourself, Terry. You have seen how strong our foes can be. What are you worried about? If anything gets in our way, Sensei Hideo can defeat it! Even if I were to try, I am not the answer to every question. We will all fight, and we will all need to fight. Time to earn my pay, I suppose. Let's go.
And here's the welcoming committee. Into the box you go! Sensei? Hmmm? Aren't we a little too strong for the pokemon here? No, I wouldn't say that. Oh. All right. I'd say you're a lot too strong for the pokemon here. Hmmm.
We'll just grab these...see, I was thinking. Did you hurt yourself? You're hilarious, Iwao. No, I was thinking about how we've been grinding. Is there something wrong with it? Not exactly, Yuki. You see, in the past, I've been wary of overgrinding. I see. And I've had good reason to be: if your pokemon are too high-level, the league can disallow them in gym battles until they're more on par with whoever you're fighting. The...League? Exactly. You see, here, there is no League. Wherever this is, it isn't part of the formalized League at all. I've certainly never heard of it. Then your fears of overgrinding...? You're catching on. They're based on a rule that doesn't apply here. Here, there's only bullshit and craziness, gyms designed to stop trainers in their tracks, a deity and his insane followers, and so on. Deity? Insane followers? What do you mean?
WHAT THE FUCK. Diaruga...Parukia... Sensei, what are they?! You see, Hisao? That's what I mean. This nutjob has summoned slivers of the gods! What do you want, Ghetsis-wannabe?
You must know by now that I don't know what you're saying. Sensei, something is wrong! Yuki? What's going on, what's up? He is speaking, true, but he is not speaking to you! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one here, aside from you six...and if he's speaking to Dialga and Palkia, he's being pretty rude about it! Be on guard, Manic! Something is coming! You mean, something besides the gods of time and space?
[/div]
...no... Sensei? You look like someone stepped on your grave! That's...that's impossible. My eyes are playing tricks on me. This is some kind of illusion! Sensei! Pull yourself together! Yuki, you don't understand! That's Steven Stone! Remember the story? Met him in Hoenn? He seems to have traveled far. You have interesting enemies. And the other one...that's...you can't be here! I watched with my own eyes!
[/div]
I saw you die! If you lose your focus, all is lost. S-sensei? This man is Wallace. Manic's mortal enemy. Manic witnessed Wallace's death at the hands of forces he could not control. Then...then he is a... A trick, that's what! And an old one. Hmmm. You seem different. It makes perfect sense. Darkrai exhausted itself creating entire worlds to test me. It may be weakened, but it can still create a person or two. Why, though? Because if it can make me lose my cool, it'll have an edge. This is smoke and mirrors, nothing more. Were that the real Wallace, he'd be fuming with rage! Very good. I had hoped you would see through the illusion. Nobuo, stand at my side.
S-sensei...are you sure about this? Trust in your strength, Nobuo. This is my first lesson. All right. I will not fail you! Both of you, hit Dialga with your strongest attacks! Sensei, do- As oceans wear down stone, strike where I do!
We did it! Well done, Nobuo...but it is not yet time to celebrate. We have left ourselves open to a counter-attack. AAAGH! Sensei, it knows Aura Sphere as well! Hideo, take this Hyper Potion and give it to Nobuo! Nobuo, use Swords Dance! Do as he says! Yes, Sensei!
AAAGH! The pain! Pain is a construct of the mind. Focus past it! All right, you two! Time for the coup de grace! The what? The what? Finishing blow. Right! Hideo, Magnum Punch! Nobuo, Drain Punch!
And that's the way we do it! I can't believe...did we really just defeat gods?! You have done well, my student. Thank - wait, student? You mean... You have shown the capacity and will to learn. I will teach you. Very nice. Very nice indeed! Congratulations, Nobuo. I think you'll be very pleased. Aren't you forgetting something? Hmmm?
Oh. Imbecile.
Hmmm. What is it now? I just realized, I have no idea where to go from here. Do I have to tell you everything? I wouldn't mind if you did. Ugh...well, you can't go east. And you know what's south of here, my home. Right... So you're either going north or west, aren't you?! Well, yes, but I meant...ah, skip it. Let's see if maybe-
Nnnnnope. Still doing their impression of a roadblock. Then what remains? Okay, Iwao, I get it. You can stop now.
Well, at least whatsisname will let me past now. Have you ever climbed a mountain before? Pffft. Which one would you like? We've got Mt. Silver, Mr. Moon, Mt. Coronet... Who? Who what? You said Mr. Moon. I did? Weird. I meant Mt. Moon, of course. Mmm-hmm. ...ah, shit. There's a mountain ahead, isn't there? I thought you had climbed mountains, Sensei? I have. And they're always an enormous pain to deal with.
Wait. It's an ice mountain? Is that a problem? Ha-ha! No! Why would it be a problem? Because your eye is twitching. Don't be silly! There's nothing I love more than an ice area combined with a mountain! Let's go, team! Maybe we can find a new teammate, Sensei! Sure! A new teammate! Why not!
...words fail me.
Dark Pulse... I'm certain that Re-...oh... Brilliantly done. Manic...if you would like, I will learn it. ...no, Yuki. For now, no one learns it. We'll save this until we need it most. Rex would be proud of you. Yeah...proud... Hmm. All right. Enough of that. We have to stay focused. No more accidents. Let's keep going; this thing has a top, I know it.
Oh. Isn't that nice. It has multiple exits. (Sensei looks like he just swallowed something foul!) (Shhh.)
Kyle? What're you doing here? And with two girls? You player, you! Anata ga koko ni iru ten o arigatogozaimasu! < Thanks heavens you're here! > You okay? They too much for you alone? Karera wa watashi o nokosu koto wa dekimasen! < They won't let me leave! > Sensei, he says they're keeping him here against his will! Oh, so that's how it is, hmmm? All right, Kyle. Double battle? Karera wa piku ni otoko to daburu batoru o shitai! < They want a double battle with the man on the peak! > He says they'll only fight the man on the top of this mountain! Got it. Thanks for the help, Terry. Kyle, hold tight. We'll be back soon!
...for certain values of 'soon'. Who was that boy? Rival, friend, troublemaker. Kyle's a good guy, he's just prone to mishaps. He is a buoy. You mispronounced 'boy'. No, I did not. Okay, I'm sure I'll get that one tonight at three in the morning. For now, let's just puzzle through this place.
There's more. Of course there's more. I hope your friend isn't in a hurry. He seemed okay. They don't seem hostile, just determined.
I- I don't like it any more than you do, but somebody has to learn it. I was going to say 'I'm glad to have a Normal attack that doesn't hurt me', but that will do.
Okay. I don't know what you're saying - again - but I know that I need you to come with me. A friend needs your help. Terry? Would you be so kind as to translate? Yujin wa anata no tasuke ga hitsuyodesu. Okay, he seems to get it. Thanks again, Terry. Any time, Sensei! Brown-noser. You, I can get along with. Ever considered a career in problem-solving? Get away from me. Worth a try.
...thanks. Now I guess we go north. Is something wrong, Sensei? I can't have this fossil revived, Yuki. Our catch for that area...was Ryota. Sensei, who is Rex? Who is Ryota? Brave and honorable souls, both. There is much to tell, Nobuo...and soon, we will have time.
For the love of Arceus, will you people move?! I have nothing you would even want! Sensei? Maybe this could help? Ooooooh! Wha - Terry, where did you get that thing? The old man noticed that I liked it, so he said I could have it! What old man where?
Back in Oni Town! I guess you were busy. Well, they sure seem to like it! Perhaps we can give it to them? It belongs to Terry. Terry, do you mind? If it'll help, go for it! Here you go, guys. One meteor, ripe for studying, full of all sorts of extraterrestrial secrets! And all you have to do is move your asses!
Well, that did the trick! Thank goodness. Wonderful. The whole is stronger than the sum of its parts. Tell me more, Sensei! There is no more to tell. I'll need to report back soon. I won't take long. Report back to whom? You shouldn't ask that question. Don't worry, your mission won't be endangered. O...kay...

You may have gotten the buoy comment Raibo, but I still don't quite get it. Anyway, since there were no new Fakemon today, I think we'll do three Fakemon that I don't recall seeing in this run (I was surprised to see them when going through the wiki). All three share a common link though: They're all part of an evolutionary line that contains actual Pokemon. For example, Absol evolving into Dizasol. First up is Ledybulk, an evolution of Ledian. Ledybulk Pokedex: A Ledian with a body specialized for hand-to-hand combat. Its floating feet flutter freely through the air.OK, when I saw what this was based off, I laughed. It's a Ledian themed Kamen Rider. All too appropriate given my avatar. Also, no shiny sprite on the wiki, but given that shiny Ledian are more of an orangey gold, I'd assume the colour would be the same. Regardless, this one turns from Bug/Flying to Bug/Fighting, and gains a really powerful attack stat (120) compared to Ledian's 35. As far as moves go, it retains a wide array of punching moves, including Mach, Psycho,Thunder, Drain and Ice Punch. For STAB, there're also moves like Raid, Attack Order, Close Combat and both Jump Kicks. Those were almost guaranteed given the design, a jump kick is the best way to describe the finisher that 99% of Kamen Riders share. As for weaknesses, Ledybulk's still pretty fragile physically, meaning Flying Types get a huge advantage, it's also out-sped by a lot of sweepers, since its speed stat is only 80, which is actually a little slower than Ledian's 85. All in all though, it's a marked improvement over Ledian. It evolves at Level 38.
Next up, we have the evolution for Torkoal, Galavagos. Galavagos Pokedex: When it senses danger, it blows out huge amounts of smoke, cloaking it's body entirely from any predators.Leaning even further into the defense wall route, Galavagos is Fire/Rock and sports a monstrous 160 base defense. This Pokemon has the stats to provide coverage from both a physical (105 base attack) and a special (95 base sp. attack) perspective. Its movepool is also pretty lackluster outside of TMs. The Level Up Movepool features no physical Fire STAB, it only gets one physical fire move in the form of Raging Fire, which I covered last time. It fares better with Rock though, getting Stone Edge and a new move called Grand Boulder, which boasts 120 power and a 30% Flinch chance, but only has 75% accuracy. As for weaknesses, the typing is not the best, and its speed stat is only 20. It will take a lot of big hits. Overall, I'm a fan of this one. It helps that Torkoal's one of my favourite fire types.
Finally, let's get weird. Farfetch'd has an evolution in this hack, meet R'duckulus. R'duckulus Pokedex: When two Farfetch'd get into a fight, the winner takes the loser's stalk and then evolves.OK, let's count up the coincidences. This is a Fighting/Flying type that dual wields leeks, it apparently evolves through fighting, and is a major boost to Farfetch'd. Sirfetch'd is a Fighting Type, dual wields leeks (as a lance and shield), evolves through fighting (Get 3 Crits in one battle) and is a major boost to Farfetch'd. Statwise, this Pokemon has a lot of speed and HP, but its physical attack stat is only 75. It also has paper thin defenses and a handful of powerful weaknesses. Movewise, it rocks a plethora of coverage in its Level Up movepool, including a couple of high-crit moves. Aside from that though, this one isn't much to write home about.
