This is an extravaganza piece for Bay based off of prompt Seven: A conversation during a car/train ride, while rain pours outside
A sweet whistling song danced out of the station master’s whistle on the busy platform. Men, women and children desperately rushing to get on the trains before they departed the station, only to be drowned out by the storm outside. The thunder bellowed and the lighting beamed a bright symbol of rage into the ground.
Amongst the crowd stood a man in a brown jacket. His dark hair coated and drenched, and his chocolate brown eyes seemed to narrow in on a suspect boarding the train, which was about to depart platform seven.
With tender but tidy footsteps he plodded forwards along the grey platform, and onto the step of the rusty red carriage. He cautiously walked along the blue carpet inside, trying to avoid knocking into people who were sitting already.
As he approached the middle of the carriage the thought dawned on him that he didn’t even consider to check the carriage behind him. He swivelled to see his path obscured by people packing their cases and lunchboxes onto the racks above them.
He closed his eyes and sighed as the train pulled away from the station.
“Heh…” he muffled, and looked around to find a seat on the train, brushing past several people until he found a single seat beside a man in a red shirt, and torn black jacket, “Oh… do you mind if I sit here?”
“Not at all. Besides, is that how you greet an old friend?” The grey haired man looked up at him with a little sad smile.
“Nanu…” he jumped back a little shocked at his own failure to notice, “I guess I am a little… distracted. It is good to see you.”
“You too. What brings you all the way out here?” Nanu shot back with a calmer grin, petting the Meowth that had stretched out on his lap, “Ow stop that,” he scowled as the Meowth dug her claws in for a moment before flopping on the table, belly up. He petted her as he looked back to Looker.
“In all honesty… an investigation,” he sighed, “A big Pokémon kidnapping group causing all sorts of issues, but enough about work. What about you?”
“Ah, I’m on a break from it all. I need to be… since the Ultra Beasts,” Nanu responded, looking out the window, “The weather here is dreadful compared to Alola. Good ol’ sunny Alola.”
“Indeed,” Looker said shuffling over to the window, “Don’t you ever wonder what life would have been like if we didn’t take the path we did?”
“At one point I have or another. Lusamine…” Nanu said, appearing distracted.
“Oh, I am sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories,” Looker quickly rushed to say.
“No need to be sorry. The world is constantly lodged against us. We have no need to fight it. I guess that’s why I did it, let Team Skull take over Po town. That and the lack of time to deal with them,” he sighed back.
“Don’t worry, Nanu, someday things will look up,” Looker said.
“Yes, Doctor,” Nanu responds cracking a little smile.
“Doctor?” Looker responds looking confused.
“Nothing, you just… look like a character off of TV from the early 2000s, that’s all, maybe you should get in your TARDIS and watch them live,” Nanu continues, watching Looker seemingly get more and more confused over time.
“Heh, I assume this is a joke at my expense,” he smiled back.
“Of course old friend. This storm isn’t letting up.” Nanu looked out the window.
“Doesn’t seem to be. I wonder if this is related to the Hoenn incidents… I guess I’ll have to investigate that soon too.”
“Hoenn incidents? My you do get around my friend,” Nanu let out a little smile.
“Well you could say I was there the entire time, but I can’t remember what happened. I was just washed up upon the shores. I guess I will never find out or remember. I think I must have been there the entire time. It would make sense with what team Magma and Aqua were up to.” Looker stroked his chin in thought.
“I guess. I mean, judging by the fact you were washed up, it would make sense you were more focused on Team Aqua than Magma, which makes sense. More land, less people die, more ocean humanity risks extinction.” Nanu looked at the rain.
“I just wish I knew what happened that day,” Looker whispered quietly, watching the drips of rain roll off the window and down out of sight once more.
